Brennan and Carr’s has a somewhat limited menu. It is mostly known for their roast beef sandwiches, served au jus on a soft roll or with cheese and/or onions if desired. They also feature burgers, chicken tenders and some sides. We had corn fritters which were excellent as was the roast beef. Cozy, casual atmosphere with brick walls and fireplace. Service is very good. Soft drinks are beer are on the menu. A small parking lot is adjacent. Highly recommend!

This might just be the best roast beef sandwich I’ve ever eaten. I was a bit confused at first how to place the order since I had noticed online that some people have a cup of broth on the side. Also, I wanted cheese added but didn’t see that option on the menu. The waiter that served us was kind enough to explain that I probably did not need a cup of broth on the side since they dip the sandwich in the broth before serving. Also, cheese can be added even though not listed on menu. All in all a great experience. Enjoyed the gargiulo burger too. Interior of restaurant was very interesting. It looks like it was maybe renovated in the 1970s as it had that type of feeling even though the bones of the establishment are from the 1930s.

Walk up to the window and get a roast beef on a roll with gravy. They wrap it up in foil, because it's messy, stand back as you bite into it. A Brooklyn staple. Get it with cheese if you must, but it doesn't need anything!.

I've been curious about this place for years. It's far off the tourist path and unfortunately I'm a tourist. I made the pilgrimage with high hopes resting on the roast beef sandwich. The restaurant is great, caught in a time warp from a time long passed. And I'm so happy locals are keeping the place going. The negativity of this review more focuses on tourist not making the long journey out to the area than discouraging any natives. The roast beef sandwich is a timeless icon. However, it fell flat for me. The bread was already soft and turned to mush in the juice. As a fan of French dips and Italian beefs I like bread drenched in beef juice, but this one is way too soft for that. American cheese/Kraft singles have their place, usually to add creaminess, but with the mushy bread it added no flavor and worse texture. The beef is lightly seasoned and lacked true beefiness. And the juice is nearly flavorless and begs for more salt and beefier flavor. Our service was hospitality albeit very dry. With other tables, servers could be seen rolling eyes as they walked away from moderately high maintenance tables. Actually quite entertaining to watch, won't be surprised if a server jumps up on a table and punts a ketchup from one end of the restaurant to the other soon(kidding, but maybe).

We finally got to the famous Brennan and Carr recently, for me it was my very first time. My mom ate here as a little girl, and was anxious to see if it lived up to her memories from the 1940s or early 50s. They’ve been here forever. She said it used to be one big place where you could see the kitchen while eating. Not anymore. The dining room is very small and walking in, you feel immediately as if all eyes are on you, and every word you say can be heard. I didn’t really care for the atmosphere. It’s like an old dark depressing log cabin, with a fire place in the middle. Tables are cramped and seating is tight. Chairs are not particularly comfortable. Again, a very small place and no privacy while eating. We sat by the fireplace, closer to the entrance. There was a wood shelf next to the fireplace so mom put her handbag there, but I cringed noticing it had a thick layer of DUST coating it. Seriously? Anyone could’ve easily taken a napkin and wiped it down as they’re cleaning the place, but it looked as if no one did this for months. Honestly it made me wonder to see such obvious dust. The bathroom was a single, I was happy to see it was clean. It’s almost in the kitchen, so you have to dip between waiters to get to it. I had to ask a worker for toilet paper after going in and locking the door, spotting the empty roller and nothing else. Glad I noticed before... We got 2 roast beef with cheese, one plain, cheese fries, chicken fingers, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, and I got a big bowl of clam chowder which was a mistake. Clam chowder was not even hot! Too thin, served barely lukewarm, and was gross and fishy tasting. I forced myself to have some, but left 3/4 of it to be taken away, uneaten. I do not recommend it. The roast beef was very tasty, and the sandwich size was generous. I liked the cheese sauce on that and the fries. It was rare as I ordered, but I didn’t care at all for the bun. Somehow it didn’t go with the sandwich. Too thick and high, dense and dry even dipped. Maybe it’s intentional so it can handle extra dipping? The fries were pretty good, not the best, not unique, but enjoyable enough with the roast beef sandwich. I didn’t have any fingers, rings or sticks. We had apple pie with ice cream for dessert, also not my thing. No complaints. Service was not terribly friendly, no smiles, not hugely attentive, just ok. The meal was over very quickly. Would I eat here again? No. I might consider coming to the take out window for a sandwich and fries, but I would never sit down to eat in there again, once dining was more than enough. All cash payment, no credit cards is also a turn off, but the big guy at the cashier was a doll, a warm, friendly nice guy. Perhaps the owner or manager? Very pleasant, the staff should take a page from his book. I have been a fan of Rollnroaster for almost 40 years, and I will remain so. I like them much better after trying B&C. Their roast beef at Rollnroaster may be a somewhat smaller stack of beef, but the buns are far better, and their melted cheese is great, far better tasting cheese on their superior round ridged cheese fries there! Plus they give free sautéed onions. I also like the restaurant atmosphere way more too. Plus as bad as their parking lot is, it’s a thrill compared to Brennan and Carr. I think less than 10 cars can park in the B&C lot, and on a strange slant besides. Prepare to practice your parking skills before arriving. I’m glad I tried Brennan and Carr finally, but would never go back in there to eat. Too small and uncomfortable. Definitely a Gerritsen Beach dwellers favorite hot spot, big Irish crowd like Buckley’s a bit further down Avenue U. My tip, try the take out window if you want to give it a try.

Been trying to go here for 11 years and finally made it here on Saturday.. All I can say is "WOW" !!! Old school place, only 7 parking spots.. but well worth the drives around the block to finally get a spot.. Once inside you are brought back in time to your youth.. The double dip roast beef with a side of AuJus for extra dipping.. A cold mug of beer and some New England Clam chowder.. It doesn't get any better than this. Waiters in white chef coats swiftly take and deliver your order.. Can't wait to go back !!!

If your conversation is about the Great food in Brooklyn you can't leave out Brennan and Carr. Melt in your mouth Roast Beef on a double dip Kaiser roll. It don't get better than this. The au jus is the best around. When in Brooklyn and want the Roast Beef experience, Brennan and Carr's.

Staff was so friendly. They dipped the buns in an au jus. Everything was delicious and fresh. Beer is Bud or Bud Lite, I don't care for either, but it's so cold there's a layer of slush, served in a frosted mug and so good. I was shocked what I was drinking. A must stop if you're in the area. And prices were very reasonable.

This is a great place to get some old-school roast beef sandwiches dipped in gravy. They make excellent sides like french fries and onion rings and have a very good apple pie.

I go for the roast beef sandwiches. They're the best! The roast beef dinner platter is also excellent, but it's a lot of food. If I'm in the mood for roast beef, this is the only place I go to. The food and value are excellent.

This restaurant specializes in roast beef. It is excellent. The complete meal is enormous. It is served with two sides. The roast beef is smothed in excellent gravy. My only complaint is that this restaurant is cash only.

If you like a burger with lots of thinly sliced beef, and then the whole burger is dipped in the juices they’ve been cooked in then this place is for you. The Gargiulo burger is delicious. The restaurant is not close to the station but the walk is easy and after the burger, the walk back is needed. Highly recommend
