The above could spell disaster but alas, Pio Bagel to the rescue. Visited the new location on 36 street and was profoundly happy to find not only gluten free bagels but people who knew what gluten free meant and the sometimes delicate nature of handling...these products. This little shop is tucked a few steps below ground level and was heaven sent! There are loads of bagels, sweets, sandwiches, wraps, breakfast sandwiches, juice and coffee BUT the best part is their gluten free bagels, with even a couple of varieties to choose from! Served with butter or delicious cream cheese and depending on your severity to gluten, they will toast it as well. This became my mainstay while visiting NYC. Dine in or grab and go. Great place to sit and enjoy the scenery while eating is Herald Square, around the corner from Pio Bagel and across the stree from Macy’s.More

I had breakfast twice at Pio Bagel in 36th street on Manhattan, during at stay i NYC. Many bagels to choose among and even more cream cheeses, and of course other fillings. Hard to choose - and they taste great!

We went to their new location on 36th. It’s hard to find gf bagels at all, and even more rare to find a good one! Four stars because I ordered with my family, got home and realized they hadn’t marked which one was gf so...rather than chance getting sick, I headed back to Pio and purchased just a gf bagel so it would be clear which bagel I could eat. No apology or recognition that I made two trips ( and paid extra as a result) but the gf bagel was tasty so still enjoyed it. Note for people who can’t tolerate any potential cross contamination: gf bagels are made in house (not a dedicated gf kitchen) and they don’t have a dedicated gf toaster. If you aren’t strictly celiac, this is worth it for the gf bagel.More

Take out only right now. I just wanted bagels, cream cheese, and coffee. They have many kinds of cream cheese, including vegan. I just had the plain cream cheese. Bagels were spot on.

Great bagels is an understatement.....excellent. Service, ehh. Unfriendly staff not wanting to answer a question or provide insight into ordering. I would have given 5 stars with better service and 2 stars if the bagels weren’t so darn good.

I ordered from Pio Bagel, they gave me rotten Avocado. Tried to speak to the manager, he pretended that he didn't understand English. Watch your Avocado in your food. They are sneaky and over-priced. I hope who ever put rotten avocado in my food twice...and that nasty looking manager gets a $3 raise.More

Also a variety of homemade salads: tuna chicken, egg, etc. The counter folks are friendly and fast. Prices are very reasonable. Been...here a number of times an d keep going back.More

Some of the best bagels in NYC. So much choice, even great tasting gluten free bagels. The price is right and the service was fast and friendly. Will definitely visit again.

We stopped by this bagel joint for a quick breakfast. It was cheap, the service was quick but the food was no more than average.

Stand in the fast-moving line and you will understand why this place is so popular. Wide variety of bagels and schmeres are there for your choosing. Breakfast sandwiches, too, and a real taste of Brooklyn Downtown lifestyle.

Tubs of bagels. Trays of cream cheese. Whitefish salad. Quick and easy service. Rainbow bagels. It's a classic NYC experience, and I would like to ask for the pumpernickel bagel's hand in marriage.
