My girlfriend and I are regulars at Taqueria La Veracruzana. We eat there almost every week. I typically get the Pechuga Empanizada which includes thinly breaded chicken with rice, potatoes, veggies, beans, and more. I really love the chicken! It is great every time. I...ordered take-out this week because of the corona virus and the meal was still excellent. When I picked up my food everything looked clean and well kept. I highly recommend this place and encourage you to give it a try!More

The food here is delicious. Their guacamole is especially incredible, and I had a skirt steak platter that was too much to eat there. Had to take part of it home.

This is a small (and a bit dingy) place right at the edge of the Italian market. BYOB, though you can buy beer next door easily. Service is not particularly warm, but its efficient. BUT VERACRUZANA IS ALL ABOUT THE FOOD. An authentic Mexican menu...though you can also get burritos. Even the simplest dishes are elaborate in the presentation. The enchiladas are stunning. The flavors are big, the portions are bigger and the prices are VERY low (tops out at $15, probably avg is $11). The sopa seafood is spicy and huge... Also open late.More

I came here on a friend's recommendation and it was well worth the walk to south philly. The service was great and the food was fast and absolutely delicious. It's BYOB so we brought our own bottle of wine which the waiter opened for us,...(and which they didn't charge a corkage fee or anything) and the ambiance was nice and efficient even though it was a little busy. I ordered a carne asada platter which was generous and mouthwateringly good, and all in all our very large and tasty dinner was well under $40 including tip. I think I just found my new favorite mexican restaurant!More

Stopped in on Friday night based on trip advisor review. We had Steak tacos and carmitas tacos. Everything was excellent. The price of $7.00 for tacos is very very good for the quality and quantity of food you get. Highly recommend! We will be back.

Stopped for a visit with family and the restaurant we had planned to go to was too long a wait. This was an unplanned thought but we were so pleased with the food. The service was excellent and lunch for 5 was only $50. Will...definitely come back.More

Was out with my wife looking for a hole in the wall type of place with good Mexican food. Was not disappointed! Unlimited chips and salsa, and the salsa is so good! I liked the red but my wife was partial to the green. Didn't...think of it at the time, but I'd buy it for home if they sold it! The guac was good too, can't do Mexican without guac! I had enchiladas morelianas, enchiladas smothered in red sauce. Yum! Refried beans were tasty also. They made a plate for my wife, who just wanted sauteed veggies and chicken, kind of like fajitas without the tortilla. Looked great and not a bit left over. Service was pleasant, will go again when in Philly!More

We have been here several times, starting with a Cinco de Mayo dinner maybe five years ago. Veraruzana is a small, clean, and popular spot. Many of the customers are hard working Mexican men, women, and teens, who stop by for an evening meal after...a day's toil in the construction industry and rub elbows with aging urban pioneers and hipsters of every stripe. This place is not fancy. But it is clean. And the food is very good. And cheap. And abundantly portioned. If you like top notch and authentic, freshly prepared Mexican cuisine, give this place a try next time you are south of the border down Washington Avenue way. It's a BYO, too. We brought my wife's brother and his wife for dinner the night they arrived from their home in California in April 2014. They travel in Mexico quite a lot, and he was very very enthusiastic about the restaurant's quality and flavor and authenticity, stating that it was finer than anything he has had in his 20 years in San Diego!. Spicy green and spicier red salsa and crunchy corn/tortilla chips are provided free of charge while you wait for your food to be individually prepared. They have Mexican sodas for sale and plenty of cold ice water. During our most recent visit (a week ago, May 2014) my wife ordered chicken enchiladas with bean and rice and chili verde sauce - $8. I had the (carnita) quesadillas (3 stuffed double tortillas per order - $8. I also got a side of beans and rice - $3. We took home leftovers after paying a tiny $19 check for two huge platters. Muy bueno!More

It's always a good sign with local Mexicans eat at a Mexican Restaurant. This place is not fancy but the food is as authentic as I've found. I'm from Southern California and this is the closest thing in Philly to what I grew up with....It's still lacking but I have yet to find an east coast restaurant that captures the taste of a west coast hole in the wall Mexican restaurant.More

A little out-of-the-way place you might miss if you didn't know it existed, but you won't want to! Great food, very accommodating staff, generous portions. Chips and salsa still complimentary, the tacos were out of this world, esp the "al pastor". It's near the Italian...Market, so stop in after your visit to the market. Prices are great when you compare them to the rest of Philly!More

It's a hole in the wall of a place and you could pass by and not even see it. Situated by the old Italian Market which is a destination of itself. Has been there for ages. Food comes off as a bit pricey for the...area it's in until you see the size of the portions. If you won't doggie-bag this is not the place for you. The shrimp dish, number 2 on the menu, $15, could nearly feed 3 people, really! The food is not hot or spicy. Well, the salsas are spicy I admit, but the menu items are generally not at all. Food tastes fresh. Wait staff is friendly and attentive. Open late: midnight. They need to redecorate a little though.More

We always get the tacos. The tacos are mix-and-match, any three (more than I can eat) for $6. Chips & salsa are complimentary. My favorites are the al pastor and the jalapeño relleno. BYO, and they accept credit cards.
