About
October 16 1909-American President William H. Taft and Mexican President Porfirio Díaz met for the first time for a summit in the El Paso-Juarez border. A luncheon was hosted by President Taft in El Paso, followed by a dinner by President Díaz in Juarez. Private discussions led to agreements made. TAFT DÍAZ serves as a testament that great things can flourish when you welcome others at your table.

Stopped in for breakfast before my meeting and was welcomed and greeted by staff. My latte was delicious and the chilaquiles dish my server recommended did not disappoint. My visit was short but I will definitely return. The lounge area looks like a great place to socialize and have drinks in the evenings.

My husband and I tried Taft Diaz for my birthday dinner celebration and we can’t wait to go back! The dining room is small and intimate, the cocktails excellently crafted and the food was creative and delicious. We loved the blending of Mexican and American flavors. The menu is limited but the choices are all appealing. Our server, Rene, was everything you want in a server - attentive, informative and friendly - a true professional. The ceiling light installation was a bonus treat. Don’t miss this restaurant if you’re in the downtown El Paso area!

Walking into the hotel, we felt like we were not in El Paso. The hotel and restaurant are beautiful. We had an amazing dinner. Meatballs, bone marrow, al mojo, ribeye, New York, and the desserts were all amazing. Rene provided us with exceptional service. We always had drinks full and he was very knowledgeable on all the food and drinks. We will definitely be back and ask for him when we do! Great job Taft Diaz!

I used to like Taft Diaz a lot but the last two times I've visited it seems like the waitress lack interest, they took a long time to notice that we were there, I asked for both menus and they only brought the executive lunch menu. The food was ready on a reasonable time however it wasn't that good, I ordered the pull pork which comes with fries. The fries were not tasty at all, didn't even eat them.

We chose Taft Diaz because of the strong reviews in Trip Advisor. But we had a very mixed experience. The pluses: the food is quite nice, although shy of the superlative reviews some customers give it. The caldo tlalpeno was flavorful and original, with the duck confit and a moderate amount of spice, although it was a little heavy on the salt. The pasta dish was very good, but the portion was disappointingly small. The duck was quite good too. The minuses: the atmosphere and the service. This is a small restaurant inside a hotel, and it does feel like a place you have breakfast at in a hotel. No tablecloths to cover the tabletops, for example, and all in tones of gray under harsh lights (an attempt at chic?), which is inconsistent with the price range of the items on the menu. But the loud and monotonous music was positively annoying. My shazam app identified “Neat” by Ambiente Fashion. Look it up on Youtube and imagine having dinner to that kind of stuff for nearly 90 minutes (service was rather slow). We asked a waiter if they could switch to something more soothing and he said he would check and get back to us. Needless to say, he never got back to us and the Fashion Cafe-style music kept going. Our waitress was polite, but tried to memorize our order and predictably this led to error in our drinks order. We let it slide as a minor thing, but this is something that paper and pencil can fix. At the end she forgot to offer coffee or dessert—just as well, I guess. And only one of the several waiters wore a face cover. We came in with high expectations, but left disappointed. Cafe Central or Anson 11 a couple of blocks away offer a better overall experience in a similar price range.

Outstanding service and ambiance, great cocktails. Did not care for the food- it was the day after Valentine’s Day and they were only serving the 5 course Valentine’s menu, which we were looking forward to trying. Although I consider myself a ‘foodie’ the flavors did not appeal to me. Very expensive.

My husband and I went here thinking it was a Mexican restaurant (based on the trip advisor description). It was not. Not even close. We ordered a drink and an appetizer just so we could get out of there without the waiter feeling like we were wasting his time. Both were delicious, however, the regular menu items were a bit too bougie for me - and I like fancy food. If you like bone marrow, a half chicken, duck, and other fancy food of the sort, this is the place for you. If you are looking for Mexican food, go to the tap.

We stayed 2 nights at the Stanton House and had breakfast at the Taft Diaz both mornings. The first morning my wife and I both had the Stanton breakfast, which we both enjoyed alot. The highlights were the bread and the preserves which are both made in house. Our server, Lluvia, informed us that the chef is also a pastry chef of some renown, and I can attest to his skill. The bread was fantastic with a crusty skin. The preserves were cherry and strawberry and there were large chunks of real fruit in both. The grilled veggies were also tasty and not overcooked. Lluvia answered our many questions and provided great service. The Taft Diaz is lucky to have such a talented young woman.

Breakfast was truly wonderful. Very welcoming at a relatively early hour for visitors on East Coast time, and very accommodating of my two kids. The food was incredible — elevated and excellent, but still accessible to kids. We had avocado toast, brioche French toast, pancakes (off-menu for my younger child) with scrambled eggs and toast, incredible fresh orange, a lavender latte, and the most perfect croissants with homemade jam. One of our best dining experiences ever. Thank you for your hospitality!

Superb breakfast treat from Chef Irving & Ms Leslie!
Leslie’s warm friendly vibe was welcoming and engaging.
I ordered the chilaquiles and tasted every bit of love and magic from Chef Irving, a side of fresh fruit, fresh squeezed orange juice, and of course coffee.
A perfect start to my day.

Excellent food and service from Francisco. The Caesar Salad and House Salad were both top notch. Reservations recommended as it was filling up when we left after an early dinner on a Saturday night. It is an expensive restaurant but everything was done quite well.

My wife and I stopped by for a drink and we quickly realized we had found a gem in downtown El Paso. Stephanie was a rock star! She was very professional and made great recommendations on drinks, appetizers and the dinner menu... she was on-point and we were hooked! Service, professionalism, attention to detail were all top-notch. We highly recommend this place and we will be back for sure. We stayed for dinner and it was amazing. You have to try the meatball appetizer, it's out of this world. Ask for Stephanie and she will make your stay memorable.

Just off the lobby of the Stanton House hotel, this upscale restaurant has a fresh, airy design, heralding the innovative menu. Well thought-out wine list, with all the varietals one might want. We appreciated attentive service from Francisco, who was pleased to help answer our many questions about the menu.

Service was excellent by Francisco, it was top notch and the reason I am rating it 4 instead of 3. The problem is the vegetarian or plant based options were super pricey for the serving size. I mean I get it, but $25 for each plat for Bok Choy Mole (only vegan option in the dinner menu) and it has 2 grilled baby bok choys lol nah. Hard pass next time. Drinks were okay but we ended up having better cheaper drinks walking distance from the hotel/restaurant. Desserts came in clutch and were really tasty. Again small portion (individual) guess they are okay priced, luckily hotel stay with Hotels.com Plat level came with a free dessert so we got to try two and they did make up for the small portion dinner plate. Convenience is great and all, come downstairs from your room but we left hungry and unsatisfied, feeling like we overpaid.

Jaylene is the best waitress in El Paso. You could tell that she loved her job and could easily read a person to recommend the perfect dish. I never knew you could pack so many flavors in a dish. It’s like fireworks in your mouth! Hats off to the chefs! Can’t wait to come back to try lunch and dinner. Thank you Jaylene!! - Florida Boys
