This is the best burrito on the East Coast. The location is a hole in the wall spot. So, don’t expect to sit down and eat there. Clean spot with great employees. Hands down. Best burrito. Fresh ingredients. Great food.

The Essex Taqueria is a take-out hole-in-the-wall fast food mexican restaurant, with two tiny tables if you want to sit for lunch. It is a great spot if you get a craving for some mexican food, nothing fancy, and without a long wait. Very tasty...and will not break the budget. I had a chicken tinga burrito, which was of gigantic size, for $8.99. You get to pick your own toppings. The only disappointment was that I asked for extra hot topping, but it still turned out mild - typical for american tastes, but not very mexican.More

This place is small but a good stop for lunch or lite affair. Food is great and service is fast and serious.

I LOVE this place. Everything here is delicious, and they prepare it quickly and have a variety of toppings- and you even get to select your toppings on tacos. It's very fun, good for a quick bite or dinner. Or maybe a burrito lasts multiple...meals. I went here three times in a week. Not much seating, no sit-down service tho!More

For the second stop of a mini food crawl in the LES, my friend chose Essex Taqueria. By this time, I was already getting full so I decided to just order one taco. And of course, I had to go with the chorizo taco ($3.49)....The chorizo had a great flavor to it. My only complaint is that I wish they had added a little more meat in there. I did like the fact that Essex was a Chipotle-type set up. After you get your meat + tortilla, they put whatever toppings you want - pico de gallo, corn, shredded lettuce, cilantro, radish, sour cream, mild/hot salsa (cheese and guac are extra). On the other hand, my friend did not like her carne asada and chicken tacos. I tried them and they were kind of bland and tasted like it was leftover. Now I know what to avoid if I come back. I'll probably get the chorizo quesadilla next time I'm in the neighborhood.More

Like most holes in the wall on the LES - this place is a little dingy, a little run down, very tiny but serves awesome eats for super cheap.

I had a fantastic couple of tacos here late at night, really fresh, great taco shells and fragrant spicy filling. Really excellent.

The interior of this place isn't very big, with three small tables on one side and a counter with some stools on the other. They seem to do mostly take-out. The walls are made of wood paneling and the ceiling is made of tile, with...a couple of ceiling fans. They had a small flat-screen television on showing soccer (ZZZzzz). I ordered a Polo Asado quesadilla (grilled chicken) for $5.99. It was delicious, and the size was generous for the price. If only they had a larger seating area!More

I grew up (and currently live in) in Colorado, I've lived in Miami, and Arizona; I grew up knowing that if you want good, REAL Mexican food, you know you can't go any further north than Colorado, or East of the Mississippi. Except that this...little hole in the wall Taqueria had the BEST carne asada I've ever had, bar none. And that includes authentic home-made real Mexican food, and not the TexMex most of the country thinks is Mexican. I had my doubts when I walked up to the little hole-in-the-wall taqueria, and saw just a couple tables, and the front counter, but boy was I surprised when we got our food. I just wish I could get one of their Carne Asada quesadillas here at home, now!!More
