Decided to make a stop after Katz deli. So glad we did. Upon entering we were greeted by Marisa and Amanda. They were both cheerful and expertly showcased and detailed each flavor we inquired about. Variety of classic flavors and new concoctions. We have ate gelato in Italy and this was comparable to the best there while providing an overall better experience when including the customer service provided by Marisa and Amanda.
Highly recommend this spot as a must try dessert spot in NYC!

Katz’s is famous for their sandwiches. Not so much for their desserts. I don’t even know if they have any…
But in front of Katz’s there’s a super weird venue that sells ice creams. It’s called Il laboratorio del gelato. It’s like the weirdest ice cream shop ever as it actualy looks more like a warehouse than a store. But they sell ice cream… very good ice cream. And lots of flavors. I think I counted 40 flavors… and the clerk told me they have more!
The taste is fine, the texture is perfect, the cream does not melt immediately and… it’s not expensive at all: we paid $8 for 4 big scoops in a waffle.
The perfect dessert after a perfect lunch at Katz’s.
Note: you can eat your ice cream inside but don’t expect anything better than a bench against the window… if they worked on the atmosphere, they could get very close to perfection.

Like others we found out about this place on a Free Tours by Foot of the lower east side. We were told that they have 128 flavors but only 64 available at a time. A bit mind boggling isn’t it? We have had good gelato before but perhaps this the best we have ever. Our guide said if we go into a fancy restaurant in NYC and they serve this brand of gelato on their premises you know you are getting the best. The small will get you 2 flavors and it’s no more expensive than any other brand.

Came upon this place through a Free Tours by Foot Lower East Side Food Tour (which I highly recommend!). Their pineapple sorbet was fantastic! So good that 2 days later I had to bring my son back by before we left NYC to try. He loved the vanilla & lemon. They offer over 60 flavors and their customer service was top notch! Next time I’m in NYC I’ll def hit this place up again. So good! Plus their 15 steps from Katz Deli!

You literally can not dream up the flavors offered at Il Laboratorio. I learned of this place via my visit to the Color Factory and it did not disappoint. I've since visited several other times to try more flavors and its fabulous each and every time. It's a very clean place and offers a good size of scoop. I don't like a giant heaping; they have a perfect portioned scoop that allows for you to try multiple flavors without leaving feeling like a cow.

This place is well known for its ice creams and sorbets. It makes its flavors right in the store at the corner of Ludlow and East Houston. Our favorites are salted caramel, vanilla, and pistachio. Enjoy!!

Was my third trip to NY, and second visit to Il Laboratorio ( and then maybe third and fourth...)
Delicious! So many awesome flavours. Sometimes a long line depending on what time of day you go, but it always seemed to move pretty fast.
Staff were great as well.
The worst thing was trying to choose between your favourite flavour and trying a new one that might be even better.

So after wanting to try this place for years , it finally happened this past weekend . We just never seem to be in the area but glad we were and had the chance to try it . Great flavor variety - among the big winners were black sesame , mascarpone , black mission fig and pistachio . Next time a 20 ounce container of the black mission fig is likely to come home with us

Wow wow wow, this place is incredible. Lots of classic and interesting flavours of gelato and sorbet to choose from. The quality and flavours were so spot on. Lychee sorbet, brown butter and acacia honey were all amazing. It’s right across the street from Katz delicatessen so perfect sweet after lunch. I cannot wait to back, I was so so impressed. Service was great and prices reasonable. So great to see a place doing something a little different.

Lots of interesting flavors. I went with 2 scoop bowl of passionfuit and black currant. Both were very good. Hubby had passionfruit, lychee and lemon ginger. Great refreshing snack after having lunch at Katz Deli.

The philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer put it best when he said, "Talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see." I think he may have peered into the future and seen the genius of Il Laboratori Del Gelato. They are in here innovating like a 1503 Leonardo Da Vinci, committed to furthering the human experience scoop by scoop, flavor by flavor.
Some flavor options I found interesting, and slightly alarming were Black Sesame, Guinness, Brown Butter, and Fig Fresh Brown Turkey. Those all just sound like a roll of the dice, but I think happiness comes with the occasional dice roll just to keep the adrenal glands on their toes.
I came here with my friend who thinks his food opinions are the pound for pound #1 on the planet, but tbf this one absolutely hit. He was obsessive over the texture of the ice cream, picking his flavors based off texture as opposed to flavors. Why am I telling you this? I don't know, but it felt like a necessary detail. He is a very creative guy.
I went with a scoop of olive oil and a scoop of cookies and cream, because I'm a grown man and I know what I like. Olive oil ice cream is the new wave I promise you. I'm at home plate with a bat in my pine tar filled hands pointing to dead center on this one. Word to Babe Ruth.
I think in another 20+ years, this place will be the Robin to Katz Batman. Go over to Katz for a sandwich, then pop over here to grab 2 scoops of ice cream for the finishing blow to your taste buds, sending them into a blissful food coma.

oh wow!!!! I have no doubt in my mind.. this is the bestest ice cream I have ever had!!!! The line went out the door, but service is fast. They have the typical flavors and then there are some not so popular ones: rice, roasted marshmallow, cucumber, sweet potato... everywhere we go, we always have ice cream... and this was over the top. It is totallly worth going out of your way to have some ice cream!!!!!
