Gallaghers Steakhouse is an American steakhouse established in New York City in 1927. Located just steps from the dazzling lights of Broadway and the pulsing energy of Times Square, Gallaghers Steakhouse takes its rightful place at the very heart of New York City. For over 87 years, this is where the city's sports teams have announced their wins, where celebrities take their bows, and Wall Street titans toast their deals. With its trademark combination of the best USDA prime dry-aged steak, a classic cocktail list, and a wait staff that never forgets a name, Gallaghers serves up an authentic New York City experience you'll savor for years to come.
MICHELIN Guide: Good cooking
A multi-million dollar renovation hasn’t glossed over any of Gallaghers iconic character. Walls covered with photos of horses and jockeys harken back to the seasoned stallion’s former proximity to the old Madison Square Garden. The menu’s “other soup” is a sly reference held over from Prohibition days; and diners still walk past the window-fronted meat locker where slabs of USDA Prime beef are dry-aged. Gallagher’s fresh sparkle is exhibited by the display kitchen, set behind glass panes. The chefs here turn out contemporary-minded fare like hamachi crudo with a yuzu-jalapeño vinaigrette to go with choice cuts of meat grilled over hickory. The rib steak is a bone-in ribeye that arrives mouthwateringly tender with a side of warm and savory house sauce.

This is a classic NYC steakhouse that lives up to its name and reputation. We had a reservation for 3 at 8:45 following the Colbert taping which I’d made about a week prior. Food and service are great (once you are seated) atmosphere is 10/10 with excellent cocktails, classic entrees and impeccable service (Soto our waiter has been working here for 40 years along with his partner!). We had lobster appetizer, oysters, French onion soup, bone-in NY strip, Shrimp and Salisbury steak for my teenage son. Topped it all off with an obligatory NY cheese cake. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is the host stand. The male host (tall, bald) was rude and dismissive when we checked in 45 mins early and told us to either wait in the crowded entrance or come back later. Hardly a warm welcome for spending $500 on dinner. And don’t even think about going without a reservation- we tried to come back the next night for a night cap after a show and the experience was the same - bar full and no interest or desire to assist. Otherwise a great meal and experience but I’d encourage management to provide some coaching to your host staff.

Wow!, went last night , excellent steak cooked by excellent chefs. Our waiter was Irish and had worked there for 40 years . He explained they have over 100 staff and can do 1100 covers a day . Our steaks (fillet mignons) were great , very tasty , only negative was the hash brown side which was a bit dry. It’s not cheap by any means but you only get what you pay for at the end of the day . The place was packed out and on a Tuesday . We would certainly return when in NYC and I recommend booking well in advance , thanks for a great evening and for the birthday treat for the mrs

The porterhouse should be eaten in NY and precisely in this place, and what we did. The place is one with staff who are almost always at the side of the customer, ready to meet every request. We come to the food; there were four of us, the porterhouse for two was tasty, with cooking according to request; the filet mignon part was unsurpassed; the sirloin part had a few more ribbing points than normal, but I know well that this can happen, and it has nothing to do with the good faith of the restaurateur. At the table with us was also ordered a tartare (good, according to who ate it), and a slice of tuna breaded in seeds (divine, according to who ate it). We drank a French red, on the advice of the sommelier and, I must say, I could not have chosen better. The advice is to go there. Prices: range from $80 to $120 per person, depends on the wines, depends on the volume of hunger, but is worth visiting

We went to Gallaghers for our first meal as a married couple and first of all we could not fault the food at all or portion sizes. Compliments to the chefs. We also recieved a small dessert on the house to share as they knew it was our honeymoon! Bad points were standing at the door in a cramped corridor for over ten minutes waiting on our table. It then took them 20 minutes to give us menu's and take drink orders. The table for 2 we were given was squeezed into a space between another two tables in which my wife could not even get out to use the rest rooms without myself moving the whole table backwards. (And my wife is a small woman) We then got the bill and was very expensive for what it was. We were then told a service charge was not included and this was at our discretion!! So... the meal was $280 and we left $300 cash. A large balding gentleman with possibly an itallian accent then took this and thanked us. 10 mins later we were ready to leave and he returns the change from the bill... i ask why and he looked frowned and mumbled something to me. It seemed like the tip was not good enough for him and he was slightly upset. Just a warning for anyone looking to go. Service was 2 star so the 20 bucks tip was fantastic in my eyes. Good luck folks

Gallagher steakhouse is positioned as a New York authentic experience somewhere to go to to have a classy meal with silver service in a famous or semi famous environment as it might have been once upon a time. You definitely need to like you meet and you should recognise that this is classic restaurant so the potato mash is comes with butter. The vegetable side dishes are likely to have been made with oil and someone and so on. Although I’m sure people located to, I think you would struggle if you were gluten intolerant dairy intolerant or vegan to get a meal here so be warned . It’s a steak house. We did get the sense that this was possibly a tourist attraction. The weight staff were professional but indifferent . The meal was excellent quality and highly recommended. The standard serving signs for a sirloin steak $57 is 16 ounces which translates to 500 g in metric before it is cooked. It is a big piece of meat. We had the side dishes of broccolini. potato mash, jumbo shrimp that were genuinely jumbo as well as the sirloin steak and the tota came to $165 including tip . Recommend as a once in a Lifetime experience but not as a regular thing

We went last night for dinner, I had been waiting for it for years and unfortunately it disappointed my expectations! Unquestionably exceptional meat but incorrectly cooked, there was no salt and after a few minutes it was cold!! 67 plus VAT for a bone-in ribeye is too much!! Impeccable service but in my opinion the elderly grill chef should be sent into retirement!! He no longer has any love for meat, he huffed and puffed throughout the service and in fact the meat suffered. We asked for meat rare and it arrived medium, cold (I was next to the pass and I can swear it stayed there for 5 minutes) and not even scalloped or sealed... in Tuscany you eat like heaven and for much less. Believe me...it's really a shame

This was the exact steakhouse we wanted. Excellent food, upscale old school atmosphere and waiters who have been there forever! It’s still expensive but not the pretentious expensive you get with the new swanky places that are all around town. My jumbo shrimp cocktail with home made seafood sauce with all the fixin’s was divine and the French onion soup and Caesar salad just as good. We split the Tomahawk 40 ounce steak for 2 and we loved it! So tasty and cooked perfectly over a charcoal grill. It’s in the heart of midtown off 5th avenue so great location too. We will be back for sure!

Gallaghers is now an institution in the States, a high-level venue where each dish costs more than 20 dollars! Not to mention the meat, which is fine since it's first choice. For them, medium cooking means practically raw, especially if you take the fillet as high as it happened to us. It was good anyway, but you had to check the cooking carefully so as not to serve it completely raw! Don't be fooled when choosing the wine: if you take the glass the number next to it is not the PRICE but the number of the menu page!! BEWARE of this because two glasses of Merlot cost me 40 dollars!!! Having said that, everything is ok, cool place in the heart of NYC near Manhattan.

Went with a friend for my birthday. The waitress dropped the menus and never returned to take our orders as she helped new and existing customer tables around us. Another staff member came over to take our order and rushed us along. From there, no one ever checked back to see how we were or if we wanted anything else — we did, my friend an alcoholic beverage and me a coffee. My friend also asked for a coke and the waitress never brought it; she had to ask again and the other staff member dropped it off. The only time we received a pleasant greeting from the waitress is when she dropped the check, of course. The food itself was good enough. I got the filet, mashed potatoes, and broccoli. Will try other steakhouses over this one in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and share your experience. I’m sincerely sorry to hear you were let down by our service and I completely understand how frustrated you must’ve felt. This was my second time at Gallagher's. Didn't love it then but i certainly did this time. Got there a bit earlier and sat at the bar. There's something about a steakhouse martini. They really do know how to make it right. A few minutes before the time of our reservation they offered to sit us. We were led to the main dining room and were seated in a spacious booth. As it was 3 of us i was fearing they would sit us on a small table for two. I was wrong. We ordered a few appetizers, they were all excellent... clams Casino, clams oreganata, canadian bacon... Their wine list is extensive but a bit pricey. For the entree we shared a Tomahawk and a Sirloin, they were both delicious and cooked the exact way we ordered. The creamed spinach was amazing, and so were the other sides we ordered... mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. Finally we closed the night with a warm slice of pecan pie, which is one of my favorites. It didn't disappoint. So even though lately i tend to believe that most steakhouses in NYC are very similar in terms of quality and service Gallagher's is the exemption. It's amongst the top ones for sure. Can't wait to visit again.

This place really does exceed expectations. I came to New York City to celebrate my 40th birthday and we were staying at the M Social Hotel. Gallagher’s is next door and located in the Times Square area. We pre-booked via their website a few weeks in advance following research and reviews we’d read. Booking in advance was a good shout given they were almost packed out on a Wednesday night! There was a laid back feel, vibrant ambience with jazz music in the background. It felt instantly familiar even though we’ve never visited before. Our waiter Robert (and another chap whose name I can’t remember) were really friendly, chatty and attentive and had a good knowledge of the specials and the menu. It’s quite pricy - a meal for 2 was about £440 including gratuity but you get what you pay for. The steaks were huge (more than we could manage) and side dishes can certainly cater for 2 people so less is more in that regard! We would definitely recommend this place to all steak lovers! Won’t forget this place in a hurry! Top Tip: the crab cake starter is exceptional. It was my favourite part of the meal for me!

The guy who does the reception is terrible, we went on October 17, 2023 at 7pm to have dinner, and the guy at the reception took our name and told us to come back at 9. We went there at 8.45pm but we were told from this "element" with an air of condescension and a smirk... that the table had been assigned to others. Never seen such an insipid person... he should do something else and have respect for the customers!!! What a shame for such a renowned place...

During our first ever visit to New York, we ate at Gallaghers to celebrate my wife's birthday. We wanted to try their lunch special (3 courses for $32) which looked amazing and great value. They don't have a kids menu so our 8 year old also ordered from the lunch menu. The restaurant inside had a really great atmosphere and the staff were all very attentive and friendly. It was a good way to celebrate a birthday. The food was absolutely amazing. I opted to upgrade my steak for an additional $18, which came with mash potato and cream spinach. The steak was perfect, easily the best I've ever tasted. I really enjoyed the cream spinach. We also ordered a side of fries, which were enough for three of us to share. Deserts were very good too, especially the cheesecake. We also ordered some lattes, which were the best we had during our stay in New York. Gallaghers Steakhouse was easily one of the highlights of our trip to New York. The food was outstanding and the price for lunch was very reasonable. I doubt you'll find anywhere else this good anywhere near Times Square. I would definitely recommend!

We didn’t have a reservation but the gentleman greeting guests was very welcoming and sat us straight away. Our waiters were very quick with water and then drinks order and knowledgeable about the food and size of portions etc. we had filet mignon each and shared fries and sautéed mushrooms (as the waiter suggested) which was plenty of food, no dessert needed unfortunately!! Well what amazing steaks, the best steaks we’ve ever tasted!!! The fries and mushrooms were delicious too but the steaks!!! Wow!!! Would highly recommend Gallaghers if you want the best steak in New York with a great atmosphere and amazing surroundings and fantastic service!

We visited this iconic place with high expectations. We had booked in advance. When we arrived at 19, the place was full of couples and companies. The noise was overwhelming and made conversation difficult. I sat with a view to the kitchen. This should be an added attraction but the disorganization and lack of professionalism witnessed was surprising. We ordered a porterhouse steak for two and chose it medium rare. Meanwhile, the table next door received the wrong menu and called their waiter a xxxxx. Maybe they were right. When we received the nicely thick steak it was not cooked as desired, but raw and cold. We drew attention to this and sent it back. When we received the steak back, nothing had changed. Wine and accessories were OK, but the visit contributed to our only disappointment on an otherwise eventful New York trip.

Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
