About
Keens Steakhouse, a classic New York chophouse, was already famous for its steaks and chops at the turn of the century. Founded in 1885, Keens has 90,000 clay pipes that line the ceilings – pipes once smoked by customers after dinner. Today Keens legendary mutton chops and dry aged prime steaks are still without equal in the city.

My wife and I were in NYC on a short weekend break and was staying locally and found this place by walking around. The website said fully booked but walked in at lunchtime to book the last table for the evening. Service and food 5...excellent if a little pricy. Both my wife and I had the filet minion, which was cooked to perfection.More

An institution in New York and always a good dining experience We booked well in advance but they had lost our reservation. However they found us a table quite quickly The menu is straightforward and the steaks really are wonderful The atmosphere is genuine NY...Has become much more expensive over the years but still worth itMore

We travel from Germany to New York almost every year and try different steakhouses. Today at Keen's we were disappointed. The filet mignon and T-bone steak were lukewarm - the T-bone was only grilled on one side and a little tough. We can't understand the...positive reviews. For our taste, this was by far the worst steakhouse. The service was very good, as was the atmosphere. Too bad!More

The restaurant itself is a lovely venue - old and dark, and felt nicely intimate. We were seated immediately, and I will say the service all round was excellent. We shared crab cakes to start (absolutely delicious) and then ordered the chateaubriand for two, with...sides of mushrooms and chunky fries. The portion size of the steak and sides was huge! I will note that my partner and I like a rare steak and ordered rare, which the outside pieces of steak were - however, the middle couple of pieces were closer to blue, which we struggled to eat. I asked for those to be corrected, and the staff were quiet, discreet and quick as they did so. I will note that another table during our meal had the same issue with a slightly underdone steak, so perhaps order one level above what you usually do to ensure perfect cooking? The steak itself was a delicious piece of meat, with no fat or gristle, and the staff rectified the situation immediately, so we still feel this restaurant easily deserves a five-star rating.More

A friend recommended this place; somehow we hadn't heard of it before. Fabulous historic place right near Macy's. This was before an early show, so we didn't want a big meal. We were lucky to get into the pub - a little lighter menu [heard...you need to make a reservation; we were early so lucky to get in.] Very professional service. Delicious food at a reasonable price. Check it out.More

I had high hopes for this restaurant. There are so many videos on this place and how wonderful the food is. I would agree that the mutton chops are delicious. The steaks however were not. We ordered two prime T-bone steaks medium rare and they...came back medium to fully cooked. The steaks were dry and lacked seasoning. The calamari salad was surprisingly tasty. The drinks were made well.More

Keens steakhouse is American institution! The experience of eating a medium rare steak in a room with a giant tiger painting can never be duplicated by anyone. Especially when you’re with your best friends drinking a strong old fashioned. We made our reservation late Saturday...evening. Right before we went and were seated as soon as we arrived. The service was second to none. Some of the best service I’ve ever experienced in a fine dining setting. I ordered the medium rare NY strip steak, a side of mash potatoes, oyster’s Rockefeller, and vegetables. The old fashioned was one of the best I’ve ever had. It was strong and flavorful. Creating a memory at Keens with my best friends was a priceless experience that I can ever duplicate.More

We have been coming here for years and it continues to be a must on trips to New York. While the food is amazing, it is the feeling of the place that sets it apart. There are approximately 138 years of feasts, get togethers and...good times embedded in the walls of this institution, which is a living breathing museum that preserves and allows us to dine in the Herald Square New York of the late 19th Century. If you have any appreciation for steak and it’s trimmings, cocktails and history, head immediately here upon arrival in New York City.More

Grass Fed Excellence be Noted! My experience at canes was excellent. The only issue was that I am a ribeye girl. Lovely. The ambience was lovely and I especially loved the carrots and celery and they’re excellent homemade ranch dressing for a dip. The bacon...was off the charts probably one of the best in the city, married with tomato and onion can’t beat! The steak was absolutely excellent. If you liked grass fed meat the problem is, I don’t so I probably will not return, but if you do want a leaner cut, this is the place to go!More

This was on our list of iconic places to try during our recent visit to New York. We dined here on a Friday evening having pre-booked a table via their website. The restaurant is well located in Midtown and had a pleasant, vibrant atmosphere. The...famous smoking pipe décor on the ceilings is impressive and gives the restaurant a nice old school feel. The staff we encountered well all super friendly and helpful. We ordered the T-Bone steak, the Ribeye and the Mutton chop and asked for everything to be pre-sliced as we intended to share everything. The sides we had were the creamed spinach and the fries as well as the béarnaise and mushroom steak sauces. The food was exceptional and one of the best meals we have ever had. Whilst not cheap, the food is 100% worth the price. Overall, this is a must try if you are in New York and a meat lover.More

The steak was cooked to perfection and the service was excellent. But the only qualms I do have is serving Oysters with Tomato Ketchup and then serving your steak with a bottle of ketchup too!!!

I came back because I had the best steak in my life last time but today I was thoroughly disappointed I ordered a Porterhouse for two it came out luke warm and extremely dry. It feels like this steak was premade and was sitting there...so it cooled down and dried out. With a side plus tax and tip coming out to around 200 it is completely unacceptable to get this kind of food shame on youMore
