Keens Steakhouse, a classic New York chophouse, was already famous for its steaks and chops at the turn of the century. Founded in 1885, Keens has 90,000 clay pipes that line the ceilings – pipes once smoked by customers after dinner. Today Keens legendary mutton chops and dry aged prime steaks are still without equal in the city.

This restaurant has 130 years history where they kept the pipes for 90,000 customers. Many famous people came here including Albert Einstein, President Theodore Roosevelt. If you're looking to experience a slice of history with your meal, Keens Steakhouse in New York Times Square is a must-visit. The posh and classic interior transports you back in time with beautifully decorated walls filled with pictures and paintings, and a uniquely lined ceiling with smoking pipes that add to its charm. Bread & Lobster Bisque: Starting off with freshly baked hot bread, which was soft, chewy, and an absolute delight-better than Gallagher's, in my opinion. It paired perfectly with the lobster bisque, which was a balanced blend of savoury seafood flavors, creamy richness, and delectable shreds of lobster meat. i Lunch Specials: Their lunch specials offe great value with smaller serving sizes at lower prices. For instance, the taste of Mutton at 10oz for $37 instead of the regular 26oz at $73, and the lobster bisque at an unbeatable $6. The freshly made ginger ale was dry and refreshing, with a distinct gingery note. Main Courses: I opted for the mutton chop at medium doneness. It was slightly more gamey than Gallagher's, but still tender and flavourful. Having tried the regular-sized mutton chop lpreviously, I would recommend sticking to that for a more tender experience. The T-bone steak, at medium rare, had a tenderloin that was juicy and tender, though the strip steak was a bit tough. Dessert: To wrap up the hearty meal, I indulged in the New York cheesecake. Rich, creamy, and satisfying, it was surprisingly airy and fluffy in texture, making it a perfect end to the meal. Service: Service was commendable, with a waiter who patiently assisted in making our decisions. Their professionalism added to the overall positive dining experience. Overall, Keens Steakhouse delivers a delightful dining experience with its historic ambiance, delicious offerings, and attentive service. This is recommended for a taste of New York's culinary heritage!

Recommended by acquaintances and having read the excellent reviews, we showed up around 9pm without a reservation. The maître d' makes us sit at the bar saying it will take about twenty minutes. After ten he comes calling while my brother-in-law and I were sipping an excellent IPA. Classy place with quick and knowledgeable waiters, first they bring you some julienned vegetables with a welcome sauce and the list of aperitifs that we skipped because we had already been to the bar. Their specialty is chateaubriand, which I shared with my wife (also on the menu it is marked for 2 people), divine, very soft, tasty with 3 sauces apart, one better than the other. My brother-in-law's lamb chops were also fantastic. Lime pie deserves a mention. They have a very well-stocked wine list divided by grape variety, we opted for a Cabernet Sauvignon Monticello from Napa Valley, surprising!!!! The price is proportional to the venue, you spend more than double the same type of venue in Italy, but by NYC standards it is money well spent.

Do you want that old style steakhouse experience - all about the food and attentive service? This is the place for you. Convenient Manhattan location, an interior that takes you back in time and celebrates the restaurant’s history, and a very focused menu make for a memorable meal and experience. The lamb chops and T-Bone steak will not disappoint. Cooked as requested. Combined with an affordable wine list, it makes for a relaxed time with friends celebrating any occasion. I live on the west coast and have this on my east coast dining musts. Let me know what you think.

★★☆☆☆ Overrated and Overpriced - Good Service Can't Save Mediocre Food Let's cut to the chase - Keens Steakhouse was a major disappointment. For a place that's supposed to be among New York's premier steakhouses, the quality simply isn't there. The steak, which should be their crowning achievement, came out badly undercooked and was surprisingly mediocre in quality. At these prices, there's absolutely no excuse for such basic errors in preparation. While the service staff was genuinely excellent and attentive, good service alone can't make up for underwhelming food. The historic atmosphere might be interesting for tourists, but as a steakhouse, Keens is clearly coasting on its reputation rather than delivering a top-tier dining experience. Save your money and book a table at any of Manhattan's other high-end steakhouses. You'll likely get better quality meat and proper preparation for the same premium prices. The service team deserves better than the food they're having to serve. Pros: - Professional, attentive service - Historic setting Cons: - Poorly executed, undercooked steak - Mediocre meat quality - Significantly overpriced for what you get - Living off an outdated reputation

Sadly, the service has become like TGIF. Steak is still good. We sat and our waiter wanted to know what we wanted to drink, our appetizer and dinner. We ordered a bottle of wine , and said we need a minute. He came back with wine and asked again. We ordered the seafood platter for an appetizer and said we were talking and not ready with dinner yet. He came back a minute later, "are you ready to order" , not yet, another minute later "are you ready to order"? Finally we just ordered so we could finally talk. Steaks came out the second the app was done, and they were grabbing to clear the plates and wine the second they were done. In a matter of 30 minutes we had spent over $300 for a not enjoyable meal.

We’d read a lot of reviews about Keen’s booking. So we were prepared for the experience. It was an anniversary celebration so we got a nice banquet on the second floor. Nancy, our server was efficient and pleasant. We started with a martini and some champagne. The martini pour left a lot to be desired. Tiny considering the price and the fact that steakhouses are known for their large pours. After a bit, we ordered a split Caesar salad with extra anchovies. It was very good. Then we ordered their filet and the mutton. I had a hard time cutting the mutton despite the fact that it was incredibly tender. It turned out that my knife was dull. New knife, better results. The filet was cooked perfectly. Nancy mentioned that we would get a free dessert so we ordered a slice of carrot cake for the road. It turned out that they charged us for it. Overall it was a very nice experience but not great.

A friend recommended this place; somehow we hadn't heard of it before. Fabulous historic place right near Macy's. This was before an early show, so we didn't want a big meal. We were lucky to get into the pub - a little lighter menu [heard you need to make a reservation; we were early so lucky to get in.] Very professional service. Delicious food at a reasonable price. Check it out.

We received a very friendly welcome and quickly received our drinks menu and our aperitif. This came very quickly, we asked for 2 starters - Caesar salad -shrimp cocktail. Caeser salad ok, but no chicken in it... Shrimp cocktail was ok The starters arrived after 15 minutes, our glass of champagne and cocktail were half empty, which is a pity you miss the sale of wine. Our starters were cleared away, we didn't get the chance to wave to the waiter for the wine list, the main course was already there. Ok, you're quickly missing out on New York prices €20-25/good glass of wine, or bottle from €75 Meat was tasty, béarnaise too, fries also tasty. Grilled vegetables don't bother. But everything came so quickly that we didn't feel like having dessert anymore. Too bad everything was pushed so much, we were back outside in 1h10min...

As you walk up to this place the outside doesn't look like much but don't let that fool you. Stepping through the door you are transported back a hundred years ( in a good way) into a stunning mix of comfort and old world charm and opulence. We got a less than great welcome from the person on the door and were told to go down to the bar whilst we waited for our table. The bar is truly something to see! a gigantic selection of spirits, in particular whisky, and the staff are busily making drinks for the very full room. Only down side to the bar is where the bar has many people sat there eating and drinking it was hard to get through to be served, but got there in the end. Drinks are well priced and well made and you can get pretty much anything you could ever want! When we were fetched and taken to our table it would have been a nice touch for the staff to have taken our drinks on a tray and shown us to our table, but as it is we were just pointed us upstairs and left us to navigate our way though several flights of steps and different rooms! That aside, when were sat down service improved dramatically. We were in the Bull Moose Room which, obviously, features Teddy Roosevelt fairly extensively. The decor is a great balance of historical items and memorabilia without going over the top. The menu has something for everyone, as long as you have a big appetite! Portions are generous but not joke big and the cooking is spot on. Our steak was cooked to perfection, exactly as ordered, and was some of their best beef I have ever ever had. Sides were equally delicious and complemented the main dish. The one list is probably one of the largest I have ever seen and covers all possible combinations of taste and budget, you will not fail to be satisfied! We dressed up as it was the last meal of our vacation but there were people here dressed in hoodies and jeans all the way to people wearing suits and ties and no one was made to feel under or over dressed. That said, Id recommend dressing up to make the night a bit special. Three courses (shared dessert) a bottle of good wine and two cocktails each and the total was $240 per person. Sounds a lot but for the quality of food, the experience of being in such a historic location and the quality of service it really was worth every single cent

This place was on our list of must visit locations during our recent trip to NYC having had an amazing experience the year before. We are happy to say we were not disappointed on our return. The atmosphere is just as good as we remember and the service on this occasion was even better (if possible) than our last visit. The waiting staff were very friendly and attentive throughout our meal. We ordered a variety of options and asked for everything to be pre-sliced so we could share. The prime-rib, the T-bone and their famous mutton chop were incredible as were all the sides. Overall, this is an iconic steak house located close to Times Square and one of our favourite restaurants in the world. We can't wait to dine here again next time we visit NYC.

Meat is great but have found they tend to undercook when there is a bone so I find myself ordering medium for medium rare. Service is solid although this time the 3/4 sirloin steak we asked to have packed ended up being a mutton bone when we opened the bag the next day at home. Will double check every time now. Prices have increased considerably since the pandemic.

I would like to acknowledge "Nomi" for seeing that we could get a more acceptable dinner reservation (4PM vs. 2:45) as it was the best option on-line. She worked very diligently to accommodate us. Many Thanks! Our very sweet "Ukrainian" server was extremely knowledgeable to help with our decision making. The meal was even better than anticipated, even my wife mentioned that it was the best "Filet" that she'd ever tasted, my Sirloin was as good as it could ever be. Truly amazing!

The Patek Phillipe of steakhouses is as upmarket as it can get. Rich in colorful history, with celebrities from sports, business, finance, politics, and Hollywood among its diners, the service quality is matched by a classy and sophisticated ambiance. The signature mutton chops are an essential order, and the prime rib of roast, both as succulent as top-grade cut meats can be. Expect a hefty bill and total satisfaction.

From the moment we walked in, the ambience and warmth took hold. Food wise, I had to try the mutton chop. Contrary to what I read on line about mutton chops, it was not gamier or tougher than lamb chops. Very nice indeed. The crudités , cocktails and mushroom barley soup started the meal and a shared ice cream sundae and cappuccino capped it off. All served beautifully by Madhesh (spelling??). We will definitely return and ask for him to be our waiter. Go and enjoy.

We wanted a family meal out at a classic NYC steakhouse and chose Keen’s based on reviews and online pics. We were extremely happy with our choice! We were dining with a 6 month old grandson, so we opted for an early reservation (5:00 on a Sunday evening). We were happy to see other diners with small children during our visit. The inside ambiance is awesome, lots of wood and history with a homey feel. The waitstaff was wonderful, everything goes like clockwork here. They were also very attentive to our grandson. We asked for some fries for him to munch on while we were settling in and they appeared instantly. The fresh veggies and dip on the table are a nice touch, the dinner rolls are also very good. For dinner: filet mignons all around - all cooked perfectly. The meat quality was definitely up to high quality steakhouse standards. A signature dish here is the mutton chop. After seeing it on several diners plates, we think it’s a must order on a future visit. We had a great experience at Keen’s, it is everything we hoped for in a fine NYC steakhouse!!

This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown.
