Stopped in for dessert. Hard, tasteless brownie, stale black and white cookie, but the slice of red velvet cake was good. I knew it was bad when my daughter, who never is good friends with all sweets, wouldn’t finish the brownie.

Took a walk outside Mt Sinai Medical Center, Found this cafe, sign said soup and half sandwich $8.50. Seemed reasonable Had a cup of chicken noodle and half a NY panini. Roast beef American Russian dressing and sauté onions served on a crisp thin bread....The soup was very good, the sandwich wasn’t too bad, slightly more well done than I would have liked. But overall very good lunch. Clean place, nice people, and pretty good lunch crowdMore
We loved the bagels, coffee and supporting cast of fruit, granola etc. Very New York experience and coming from Brexit Britain a bit more affordable than some places. The service let it down a little though. The guy taking the orders was obtuse in not...understanding what we wanted and missed one order entirely. But that was sorted and I suspect we will be breakfasting there again tomorrow for convenience and quality food.More
Poor service. Since coming in to the restaurant -we tried to figure out what to order from the menu. Near the cashier there is no menu - and the restaurant assumes you can memorize the possibilities for the sandwiches while you place the order. Not...tourist friendly.More
Awesome little cafe with all the fixings. Coffee, bagels, salads, pastries, sandwiches, etc. all delicious and very affordable. Everybody can find something to enjoy here.
I ordered a panini today and a coffee. I paid $15 for what looked like half a panini . Have to say this was a very disappointing experience and the small tables did not make it much better. Next time, silly me. I will stay...awayMore
Grabbed a huge cappuccino and panini after a long morning of testing at Mt. Sinai. The food and coffee were great but Victor at the register was charming and very friendly. I will definitely pop in here again.
We have been eating and dining together in Manhattan for more than 20 years across all different formats. I have gone to Champignon Café on Madison for three years, and have always been pleased with the great food and friendly staff. Today was the last...day I will ever walk into that cafe. One employee made fun of us as a sport, treating us like second class citizens and talking down to us as if we didn’t have any money. We asked if everything was okay, and she looked at her fellow employee and they both started laughing at us. Finally one other employee apologized (as if knowing those two employees sit there and can be mocking and mean) and this unkind employee said “don’t apologize”.More
Ate here most days - fighting of all the staff from Mount Sinai Hospital in their scrubs! So much choice! Really friendly staff. My sons attempted to teach me healthy eating with the yoghurt and granola - but the Almond croissants won!
Just read another (Terrible) review in here that echoes so many on Yelp. Perhapd I'd add my personal experience about the utterly disrepect to customers, local and otherwise. Went in to grab lunch (panini sandwich) - the place was not busy. Placed order but didn't...get a receipt. Finally got one but only after I insisted. Red flag right there. Then it got worse. After seeing a few orders behind me were called, I went to inquire about mine. Was simply told to wait. Ok, another few minutes and another customer after me picked up his order. So I asked to speak to the manager. Guess what? Was told "no manager today", and they refused to answer when I pointed out the orders behind me were served but not me. Is it first come first serve? They said No. Ok, so I asked for a refund since I still did not get the food after a long wait. As if to add salt to injury, they said no refund today, "you'll have to come back tomorrow for the refund." As they say, there's a first time for everything. Is it legal to do that? In short, don't waste your time (and money) here.More
I work on Madison every month for 3-4 days -and have walked past this joint 100 times - today I stopped in for breakfast - this place means business - tell us what you want and move on - so NY ! And soooo appreciated...when you're hungry and thirsty in the morning and you have to get to work - I had the field green wrap - a healthy (ish) egg white wrap with yumminess inside - perfect black tea. Their menu is extensive considering its tiny size - including smoothies, pastries and other breakfast and lunch selections worthy of a try - given the flavor of my morning... And out for less than $10! Kicking myself for not wandering in before today!More
I love this place. Salads, eggs, tartines, sandwiches: Champignon has it all! You can run in, meet a friend or colleague and eat there or take out. They are so friendly and nice here. Great tea and coffee and pastries. i
The food here is expensive for the quality and amount you get. I go there for their soups which can be pretty good tasting (had it 3 times)
I stop in here for breakfast sandwiches and coffee sometimes and it's the best place around. Very good bagels and there's something special about the coffee they brew!
I started worked in the neighborhood and has been to this restaurant twice. The food was decent but service was terrible. I went there for lunch a few days ago. I walked in shortly after 12:00 pm, around the normal lunch hour. I ordered a...1/2 sandwich and soup combo. I placed in the ordered and paid for it. My friend who was in front of me ordered the same thing. Five minute later, I heard my name called, I went to talk to the person in the counter. She told me the soup that I ordered ran out. I told her that my friend just go the soup that I ordered. She explained the other staff did not realize the soup was low when she toke my order. She offered me to choose another type of soup but none interested me. I asked for the whole sandwich but I would like another favor since there was only one choice of sandwich came with the combo. She refused claiming that they were already making the sandwich. Through out the whole conversation, she was never apologetic and offered me another compensation. I would not come back to this restaurant again.More
