Though we were here for "lunch," it is traditional in Iran to have the principal meal of the day at noon. This excellent Persian restaurant has all the classic Persian dishes, authentically prepared, and served with impeccable care. Kababs, rice, accompaniments such as yoghurt with shallots, eggplant dishes, lamb shank, and fish are superb. The portions are substantial and the prices amazingly moderate for the quality of the food. The baklava and proprietary-blend tea are a special treat (if one has room). We were a large group, and were impressed by the efficiency and professionalism of the waitstaff.

Some of our friends recommended this restaurant to us, so we went there for a casual evening meal. Friendly staff and professional. Delicious food, all halal and plenty of vegetarian dishes to choose from. The portions of meat platter with rice is quite large so when you order keep in mind not to over do it like my husband did 😂 otherwise you’ll have plenty of left over. Lots of dishes are enough to share between 2 persons. Overall a good experience May come back again if I do visit NYC again.

Came here with my family for lunch…4 adults in all and we so enjoyed the food. We ordered two appetizers and two entrees. All were delicious. I enjoyed the chicken kebob salad and the Persian rice over stew the best. I’m pretty sure everything here tastes great. We pretty much licked the plates clean!

This restaurant is such a disappointment. I came to this restaurant tonight with my family. I called ahead and asked them if they had a table available for four people. The lady who answered the phone said they did. When I took my family there (in less than 15 min), they saw my family of four and refused us service. They told us there were no tables available even though there clearly were available tables and I watched them seat other patrons around me. Either this establishment is racist or has an issue with the fact that I had the audacity to bring my kids (6 and 9 and clearly well behaved). Either way, this was a huge disappointment and I will never go to a restaurant that will deny service to some patrons for no reason. Either they are racists or have problems with well behaved kids. No matter what the reason, I certainly won’t ever go back here again and I definitely don’t recommend anyone patronize such a disgusting establishment.

Cuisine, service and price. Let us get to it: Cuisine: Not bad, rice slightly salty. Kabob Koobideh was really good. Service: Mediocre with a smile, amateur hour. Young man playing host was overwhelmed. Even before the number of patrons increased, chaos ensued. Price: You pay for eating in the city, I get it. But $7 for plain Tahdig with no toppings. Give me a break, all Persian restaurants give this stuff away for free. If its was not for Kabob Koobideh , rating would be 1. Thanks but no thanks, my last visit.

The saffron rice and the sour cherry rice are to die for. So good! And the baba ganoush... You can rarely find better. Make sure you come with an appetite, the portions are enormous. Prompt service as well. This is a hidden gem .

Visited the Madison Avenue location (not to find on TripAdvisor). Not an experience as expected. The guy who served us was very friendly but that was it. The starters came together with the main… And the worst part, the food was unfortunately very bad. Koobideh was too thick, juje was not cooked well and was dry. Barg was too thick. The quality was not worth the price (where they also automatically add 20% for services). Probably one of the worst Persian restaurants I have ever been to.

Food was very tasty, highly recommend the green chutney! Tried the Joojeh and Lamb, both were cooked well and had tons of flavor. Will be back!

The food is excellent, very traditional and great quality. Hummus and babaganoush are my favourites, fresh and natural taste. Chicken kebab is really good

The national cuisine of my country of origin (I am from Balkan) is very similar to Persian (especially regarding meat preparation and desserts), so that's the main reason why I have decided to try this type of food. Let's start from the beginning. I went there with a friend of mine, who already has tried their Middle Eastern specials. The venue is a little bit odd, ceilings are high and walls are naked, w/o any Middle Eastern decoration and ornaments. I would say sterile in a certain way. Until you try their food, you don't have a feeling you came to a Persian restaurant. On the second glance, a little bit claustrophobic as well. The bar is modest. Service is good, but not excellent (order takers, not servers). And not a single one of them is Persian, so do not expect from them to describe you meticulously food and spices. Silverware is good (Made in Germany), solid and it doesn't bend, I like that. And it's a clean (but small) place, I must admit. At the very beginning, as an appetizer, you get two dips with homemade flatbread. One is made from cilantro (too acidic for my taste) and the second one is quite better (yogurt+dill). After that, we have tried a traditional Persian soup, Ash Reshteh, a traditional gumbo with mixed greens, chickpeas, noodles and kidney beans, topped with a spoon of Yogurt. Honestly, it wasn't our cup of tea, but it is definitely something different if we speak about the taste. As our entrees, we've had Combination Kebob: 4 pieces all in all - 1 Barg (sirloin in spices), 1 Lamb Kebob, and 2 Koobideh (chopped beef). The meat was extremely tasty and juicy. They know how to prepare it. And the portion is more than generous, so be advised when you order your food. Along with the meat, we've ordered two types of rice: yellow (safran) and green (with dill and fava beans). As our dessert we had baklava with pistachios and Faloodeh (frozen vermicelli with a rose syrup served with sour cherries and lemon!). Next time I would like to try some other specials and authentic dishes like Babaganoosh, Sambuseh, or some of their tasty stews. Or lamb shank maybe. Ravagh is not a pricy place, considering the location. Our check was 104$, w/ tax and w/o tips. Fyi, except this one on 1135 1st Avenue (close to Lexington Avenue subway station) they have 2 other location: Midtown Manhattan (11E 30th Street) and East Village (125 1st Avenue). See you next time, Ravagh!

My wife & I have been here a few times and always look forward to our next visit to try something different. Service is quite good, and we've never had anything that was disappointing or skimpy. Get a table by the window to watch the passersby.

It was a decent experience but nothing over the top! The food wasn't the best quality of Persian food. The staffs, however, very polite and attentive! Interestingly, non of them (or at least the ones we had encounter with) were Iranian!
