We were initially going to Kat'z deli, but seeing the line, we opted for a bagel at Russ and daughters located next door. After waiting about twenty minutes, we had bagels with sesame bread, horseradish cream cheese, gravelax salmon and capers. It was excellent and very plentiful, very quality products. Price-wise, it's New York, count 40USD for 2. Go for it !

I went here during a long weekend in NYC. I ordered the traditional lox bagel sandwich (smoked salmon, capers, cream cheese on an everything bagel). You generally have to pick a number and wait, perhaps up to 30 minutes. But I was able to get my bagel sandwich very quickly. How? Simple. I went online on their website about half an hour before arriving and ordered the sandwiches. When I arrived. I went to the back, and the manager promptly handed me my bagels in bag after saying my name. My recommendation is if you don’t want to do the traditional pick a number, order then wait, place an order in advance online. There is no sit down cafe here so you either have to go to a park bench nearby or find another sit down place.

Let me start by saying that I didn't know the place but I was struck by it when I passed by after a visit to the more famous Katz's Deli. The external and internal appearance is captivating, vintage, as soon as you enter you seem to be catapulted into another era with a display of both salmon, herring and smoked fish, dried fruit and sweets. We tried the chocolate Babka, costing 18 dollars, but sublime in appearance and flavor - I repeat - from times gone by and a cinnamon slice that was equally good but, obviously, a little less tasty. It's definitely worth the visit. Ps the clerk in the sweets department was very nice and since he didn't have change he even saved us a few cents 😃

Russ and Daughters is one of those "must visit" NYC institutions, according to websites and guidebooks. We rocked up on a Saturday morning and the place was heaving. I got the impression that a lot, possibly the majority of the customers when we were there, were, like us, visitors. The system is you take a numbered ticked and wait for them to call your number, you order and they make up your order. We opted for cream cheese and smoked salmon. There is a good choice of types of bagel types and the coffee is fine. Overall, the wait to order, when we were there, was a downside but the food was OK.

The menu showcases well-considered revisions of "appetizing" classics. The vibe and decor are welcoming and the service top-notch. My pal and I had the whitefish salad with wasabi-infused roe. Perfect with their excellent coffee. This is a place native New Yorkers and visitors alike can enjoy. Prices are a bit high and portions a bit modest, but quality is so high it's good value. Enjoy!

We bought caviar from them on February 11 and the clerk told us it was mild and very good. He even said he would throw in a free spoon as a present for an upcoming birthday. Turns out there was a promo for valentines day, free spoon with purchase. So nice of that clerk to lie! When I called today to say that the caviar was awful, the woman said it was a very strong smelling roe. I asked her what we can do , I offered to bring it back but she told me their is nothing they would do. Shame on them!

This is just down the street from the Tenement Museum where we had an early afternoon tour booked. Perfect place for a quick stop. The chicken matza ball soup did a great job of taking the chill out of a very cold winter day. Eggs Bennie pretty standard except for the challah bread base, but well cooked and tasty. Service quite good for a deli.

Ok. Here for a bucket list adventure. Been to NYC many times. Wanted to go for Xmas. Rockefeller tree, Macy windows and shopping… yep all there. Also went to places that were not tourist oriented as was the modus operandi in the other NYC trips. We went to Russ and Daughter as the original Liz and bagel spot in NYC. So here goes… took a number and waited outside got 2 seconds and realized … his the heck would I know my number was called, So i went in… well crowd….ed yep crowded. First bloody tip… put the numbers on the outside window too… who wants to breathe on top of each other. It was crowded… then I went in and was bounced around… pushing me to the end of restaurant. Okay…. That was 1050am. By 1130 I was 30 away from my 2 lox and bagel… sandwiches. 1145 my number gif called 729…. And I regurgitated my order… 15 minutes later 12 pm ish my sandwiches were ready at 40 dollars. Thus is just a take out joint.. I finally too a bite… let me say… all the sandwiches I had in this genre was left behind. Not even close. Fresh, delicious and tasty… omg… I will never see lox and b the same. Can not wait to eat there again… next year gif sure… A

Russ & Daughters came to my attention during my research for NYC. As I'm sure it has yours. If I was visiting New York for the first time, then I would want to try here. The bagels are made fresh. The bagel fillings are no doubt some of the finest and freshest in NYC. They even have European salmon, which i found impressive. The bagel it's self was excellent. Pastrami salmon, who knew that was a thing? I didn't.. With Goats cheese cream cheese, again since when was this a thing..I'm not sure, nor do I care, they made for one helluva bagel. Service was slow but rightly slow. I would hate to visit in the height of the summer, when it's busy.

We went to the deli not the sit down. It is organised yet bustling. Notably the quality of food is exceptional as is the service -shout out to Jake who perfected the shmear!!! The dried fruit and even the Turkish delight (Likum) adds to the authenticity and the yumminess!

This was one of the iconic bagel places that we wanted to try on our recent visit to New York. We had to queue for a bit to get served but it was worth the wait. We opted for the classic Lox bagel which had Nova salmon, scallion cream cheese, onion, tomato and capers on an everything bagel. It was delicious. The quality of the salmon in particular was very good. Tip - if you see a line outside, go inside and grab a ticket. A lot of the people were queueing outside and then grabbing a ticket on entry but we noticed the locals would just walk in, grab a ticket and then wait outside until their number was called. You can see the ticket number board from outside clearly.

Is it unkind to drop a star because of unfamiliarity with the ordering system…. Very confusing for a non-local. We had done a bit of research before coming to NYC and as Katz and Russ & Drs are so close either would have been in the plans. A huge queue for Katz sent us here. You still have to wait until your ticket is called but it’s so fascinating to see how everything is prepared to order. We had two sorts of bagel with different types of smoked salmon and cream cheese. They were both astounding and worth the price. The cookie though is a cake! Never mind, this visit was a memorable part of our long weekend.

This review if for the store. We have been going to this wonderful establishment for at least 30 years, the quality never varies. This was our first time since the virus hit and the only thing that has changed is that there is a three person limit in the store at one time. My personal favorite is the Western Nova it is light, delicate, pure flavor, not a hint of grease. This is not cheap at 50 bucks a pound but it is worth every penny. This time I tried the New Zealand King Salmon and it is as good as the Western Nova but in a different way, its texture is finer and the smoky overtones are a bit stronger. So from now on I will be ordering at least half-a-pound of each they are equally good. Don't forget the cream cheese with scallions! After you have some of their Western Nova (or any of their others they are all superb) you will realize that what you have been eating as 'lox' was a pale imitation of this, the essence of lox. As their sign says "In Lox Veritas". They have an extensive selction of other items, to be sure, but the lox is why I go here. If you are living some distance away may I suggest that you take a cooler, buy what you want, and take it home with you. Enjoy!

This was an excellent place to start the day. We arrived at opening time, 8:30am, and the place was soon full of people. We ordered the classic plate of open bagel with salmon and cream cheese and the equivalent of hash browns. The food was superb and served very quickly. Our refillable coffees were also great. A super cool spot for breakfast.

Lunch stop, we searched it out as it is supposed to be one of the best. Mine was a cream cheese and salmon, boring but just right, not too much so not a huge mess squashing out. The cakes and doughnuts all looked unreal and we took away a couple of coconut macaroons for later. Try and get here if you can.
