I have to agree with the reviewer who mentioned Wo Hop in NYC, that too is my measuring stick for good Chinese food. Peking City is the best Chinese I have had in my 15+ years living in Virginia. Stumbled upon this place after a...TripAdvisor search while on a couples weekend in Va Beach. Peking City is about a 15 minute ride away from the oceanfront, located in a strip mall with several other restaurants. Decor was no frills, standard kind of stuff you would see in a NYC Chinatown establishment. Clean and comfortable setting. Service was friendly and fast. The owners had their little boy in the restaurant with them and he was entertaining to watch. Dining room was not busy, it was a Monday night, but they looked like they did a good pace of take out orders. Portions were HUGE! We ordered pork lo mein, pork fried rice, beef and peppers and egg rolls and we couldn't come close to eating it all. Food was very tasty, best I have had anywhere in Virginia or even in DC. Compared very well with Chinese you would get in NYC or SF. Prices were very good, dare I say cheap considering the portions, quality and peak season at the beach. Great value, will definitely come back here the next time we visit Va Beach!More
We are New Yorkers, the real kind from the city, living in V.B. now! This restaurant is the closest we've come to GOOD Chinese food since leaving 17 Mott St. (Wo Hops) in Manhattan which ANY real New Yorker will tell is the BEST Chinese...food this side of the Pacific!!! I will let you judge the food for yourself! Everything my wife & I have had has been delicious!!! The place is extremely clean and the service, perfect!!! Try it, you'll see!!!More
This is the 2nd time I visited this restaurant in the last 6 months and it will be my last. I gave it a second chance because it is the closest Chinese restaurant to our house and they were really busy the first time I...was here. The evening was a continuous string of irritating events. When I first arrived I slipped into the men's restroom to wash my hands and the restroom was so filthy the soap was empty and I wasn't sure my hands weren't worse than when I arrived. The first waitress hardly spoke English and a second one arrived to help with our order, but it didn't get any better as the original waitress was not understanding us or being attentive the rest of our visit. The service was very slow and it took longer than expected to get our dinner. After dinner it took a long time and we had to flag down a waitress to request our check, and a long time to get the check. While we were in the restaurant many irritating things to customers were going on and it wasn't late or closing time. Waitresses were coming to our table and other tables and taking things off to refill them, only bringing some of the condiments back on request. Another waitress was sweeping around tables as if it was closing time. Employees talking and fooling around together instead of paying attention to their patrons. In summary the food here is just average at best, and there are obviously management issues in efficiently running a restaurant. This is probably the worst example of lack of care and concern for customer satisfaction I have ever seen!More
Love chinese food and the fried rice and General Tso's chicken are exceptional! I get it for my friends and they love all dishes.
Very glad that this Chinese restaurant has arrived. With the closing of the Peking Duck, the faltering of Forbidden City and the horrible Chinese swill being handed out by another Chinese restaurant I will not name, we truly need a quality, reasonably priced Chinese restaurant....We ordered typical fare ( take out), such as Lo Mein, Mo Shu beef, Sweet and Sour Chicken and Egg Foo Yung and it was all tasty and freshly prepared. Would highly recommend this place.More
I am a Great Neck local and have had many Chinese restaurants in the area and Peking City is the best in my opinion. Ingredients always taste fresh, steamed dumplings are delicate and everything is delicious. They have a plethora of options and excellent service.
Great local dive. Good lunch prices. $6 Includes entre, soup, egg roll, and fried rice. All five of us had good food. The staff was great. However, they ALL ate at different times in view of all to see - front table.
Prices are so reasonable here, I love to sit in the booths, so many places dont have them anymore, so much more comfortable. Special platters that come with soup and egg roll or you can substitute spring rolls. Great selection, parking is easy...in strip shopping...center. Love their vegetable dishes and the Green Pepper Steak. Wonton soup is also very good. Generally pretty quiet here which allows for a relaxing meal, service is fast and friendly.More
This was the worst Chinese delivery ever. I splurged on a recommended Hunan duck dish. I was delivered a half duck that was pretty crispy and without too many bones. YET between the skin and duck there was this awful stuffing. I think it was...corn based, yet what ever it was, it was horrible! $24.00 for really bad food for one person. I asked for veggies and it came with uncooked frozen broccoli and over cooked/steamed Asian vegetables. Do yourself a favor, don't order from here.More
One of our favorite Chinese restaurants - ever! We dine in regularly, and do take-out as well. Always clean, with excellent food at reasonable prices. A take-out order generally takes only 15 minutes to be ready for pick-up. Our favorite items on the menu include:...hot and sour soup; fried dumplings; moo-shu pork; pancit; and egg rolls. We've had many other items off the extensive menu, but these are our favorites and get ordered regularly. The friendly and attentive staff makes every visit a pleasure.More
Came here on Christmas night and was delighted with the food and service. The steam pork dumplings were amazing! It was text book Chinese food! Well done!
I have ordered take out here in the evening many times over the years and have always been more than satisfied. I had one of the luncheon specials today, good quality food at a reasonable price. Good flow of customers both for sit down and...take out and I know from past experience they do a brisk trade in the evening on take out alone. In an area that has few good Chinese restaurants I am happy that Peking City is just a 5 minute drive away. My visitors from New York and UK who have eaten their food in the past have always been most complimentary.More
Surprising small restaurant in strip mall. Great extensive menu, food is very fresh and the value is incredible. Have eaten many lunches here with family and friends...have never been disappointed. Full lunch with soup, entree, rice, egg roll for $6 and it is good. Staff/owners...are very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend, people are always amazed at the value.More
