We fancied a seafood restaurant instead of eating at one of the fish and chips joints at Fremantle Quay, so took the short drive to Cottlesloe beach, and we were glad we did. Stopped at Longview, which fronted the beach at which we could take in the view as well as get our seafood fix. My husband enjoyed his crispy skinned barramundi thoroughly, done to perfection. However, we found the chilli mussels a mite bit salty, so too the crab linguini, which was a disappointment with its not so al dente pasta and sauce that was not quite there. Service was top notch, however. I was totally impressed by Ludovic who of his own accord changed our bowl for the mussel shells when he noticed it was full. Longview is still a good stopover for a day out, away from the crowds at the Fremantle port, despite its rather limited menu. (And oysters had not arrived by the time we sat down to lunch at 1330). Service is great, and the ambience pleasing.

the welcome, waiting staff ambience and food were excellent. The only niggle I have is with the manager. The restaurant was virtually empty and I had finished my beer. I was trying to attract our waiters attention to order a glass of wine but he was being talked to by the manager. In the end, I went up to them to ask for the wine. I was ignored- when my food arrived, I asked where my wine was and the waitress looked on the system and it had not been ordered. Very casually the manager - without apology- bought me a half glass five minutes later. Had I been served the wine promptly in all probability I might have had another. A shame that it spoilt an otherwise lovely meal.

Folks, I have enjoyed Longview, and I also enjoyed the restaurant when it was the Blue Duck. View spectacular, food pretty tasty, as is the vino choice, but the difference is, one cannot hear themselves think, let alone talk to companions. Please, please turn down your music. You are not a rock venue. Blue Duck was able to maintain a pleasant sound without distressing decibels. We cant keep attending whilst you annoy the passing traffic with your screeching sound. Sayonara.

What a mess. I booked a table for 10 about three weeks ago for my birthday, then increased the number to 14 two weeks before the booking. Two days before the booking I increased it to 17 and requested a high chair (which wasn’t at the table - just as well those guests didn’t arrive). When we arrived the waiter told us that we had to have a set menu. They were already aware that two of us have dietary issues as I had included the information in my booking including one who is gluten free snd one (me) who is allergic to chilli. If I had known they were going to make us have a set menu I would have distributed it to my friends before hand, especially to my friend who is gluten free as it’s not just gluten that she can’t eat. Moreover, most of us were only intending to eat one course, not a three course meal. If I had known we had to have a set menu with such limited options and smothered in chilli I would have cancelled the booking. No drinks were offered when we arrived. Two of our table somehow ordered beers but the rest of us weren’t offered anything. after another ten minutes two more of my friends had drink orders taken and the waiter wandered away. It was 50 minutes into being there before I was finally able to order but my drink didn’t arrive - they had given it to the wrong person! After an hour I finally got a glass of wine. The entrees were all share plates. Every single one had some element of chilli added to the sauce or sprinkled on top. Even the butter for the bread had fking chilli in it. By the time the third dish was brought out and the waiter again told me I couldn’t have it I was annoyed. They finally brought my own version of two of the dishes and some non-chilli butter, but if they’d been organised in the first place they wouldn’t have added chilli to everything, or at least put the sauce on the side. The vegetarian dish provided to one person was half a charred cauliflower with seasoning - they told him that was his only option. After an hour without a drink or anything to eat I got angry with the waiter who blamed me for changing my guest numbers - when I had increased the number to 14 15 days beforehand they should have advised then that we had to have a set menu, but no, it was MY fault that they couldn’t get their act together. Such a disappointment in comparison to the last time we were there. None of our group will ever return.

We decided to drop in on a Friday night after work. It was very quiet but it was winters evening. We ordered a salmon tartare and some bread to share, one wine each and I ordered swordfish and my husband a burger. Only a few minutes after I had eaten the fish, which was $40 meal, I had to run to the bathroom and threw up. Clearly the fish was off. After paying $170, we left. We won’t be back

Went on Wednesday afternoon around 12.45pm. Had to stand and wait as the "please wait to be seated sign was at the front. While waiting there was another customer sitting by the stool and said to us "I am still waiting to be seated and I have been waiting for a while now". It was an elderly man. It took a sometime for a staff to notice we were standing there. Eventually someone attended to us and we requested to be seated outisde. We were given loose sheets of menu, kind of putting because since the cafe looks very chic and classy. Waited a while then the waitress took our order. The drinks came about 15mins later and the food arrived just before 2pm! More than an hour waiting just for our food. We ordered fresh chucked oyster half a dozen, crispy chicken thighs & salt & pepper squid. Finally the food arrived and boy of boy we were suprised for the price, the portions were so small. I had the salt & pepper squid, on the menu it says it comes with an Asian salad, Thai dressing and peanuts which sounds appetizing. However i was so dissapointed when my dish arrived. The squid had a nice crunchy batter to it but there was no salt on it. The salad was just lettuce, cucumber, argula and 3 roasted peanuts! I could count them as there weren't any nuts on the plate and the so called asian dressing was on the bottom of the plate and lettuce leaves on top of it. It was very disappointing as the the dressing was so little I couldn't even mix it with the salad. Overall the dish was blant and no taste except for the squid in the crunchy batter. For the price and such a chic looking restaurant, the service is absolutely horrible and the food didn't taste any better. Would never go to Longview cafe again. Such a waste of money!

Terrible! Definitely the last time we visit. 2 of us went for breakfast today. Not overly busy. 5-6 waitstaff walking around but still waited 15 min at least before anyone came to the table at all. Then another half an hour for a coffee that they forgot about. It came out luke warm and with a bit of onion skin in. Then waited another half an hour for one serve of avo on toast. After a bite we had to stop as the avocado had gone bad! When we told the manager he just took it away and still charged us for a coffee and smoothie- actually he over charged us! When I complained he didn’t seem to care! How does this place survive?? The view?? I suggest get a take away coffee from somewhere else and go sit on the beach. Avoid!!!

I tend to avoid going to the ex Blue Duck due to the very average food on offer, so I was very pleased about visiting again now that they have rebranded. On walking into the restaurant for lunch last week, I commented on the fresh new decor and asked about the chef! Oh yes, the hostess beamed, he is still with us! My hopes were dashed that this was going to be anything special to match the location. So my friends and I ordered and I have to say I enjoyed the fried oysters that came with my seafood board, but everything else was underwhelming and I left half. The greasy long calamari strips were like none I had ever seen - looked like they came from a packet. I even had to examine the menu to find something that tempted me. The same with my companions who ordered two different pasta meals and did not finish them, bland being the description. We still had a nice time as the staff were lovely and attentive and the view to die for. It's just a shame that they continue to serve food that looks great on the plate but fails to deliver taste and texture. Bummer, I was hoping to make it a regular. Having said all that - my son recommends the $10 Surfers Breakfast which is a fry up - so they do that very well. Lunch ended up costing about $65 per head which included drinks.

Major disappointment. Very unprofessional. Nobody noticed our arrival ' Waited to be seated. Waitress wasn't familiar with menu (however she was nice). Overpriced food. Steaks (2) were overcooked. Mine was laced with uneatable gristle. Felt like staff was recruited on the day from local backpackers lodge. Venue too hot - air conditioning insufficient for the day. You should feel ashamed about your offering to an unsuspecting clientele. Why do you open your doors if you can't meet customer expectations? . . . However, the pigeon walking through the place seemed to enjoy himself.

to be honest I do not understand the one star reviews???? Outstanding service, beautiful food, we had mushroom risotto, lamb shoulder, you could cut it with a spoon, roast pumpkin, nice chips, ok we would have loooved more seafood choice but one cannot get everything. Unfortunately it was very windy and rainy so I cannot comment on the views, which I can say could be magnificent. Great experience altogether.

I booked a table online for two for breakfast. Provided my full name and requested a balcony table. Met at the 'Please wait to be seated' sign by curt female staff member. I gave my full name and that I had a booking for 9.30 (am). She brushed past my friend and me to get the booking sheet. 'Name?' I once again provided my full name. 'Do you want to sit inside or out on the balcony?' I told her what should have been on the booking sheet that I had booked a table on the balcony. Without a word she walked over to the door leading onto the balcony and dismissively gesturing, said, 'Sit anywhere you like.' After we selected our table another indifferent staff member presented a couple of loose, single page paper menus and asked if we wanted coffee first. Yes, we did. Coffee was good. My friend had to ask for sugar as there was none on the table. Breakfast arrived. It was lacklustre and the sourdough toast would be perfect if you ever needed to resole your shoes – it was like boot leather. We had to ask for salt and pepper. At no stage were we brought or offered water. My friend had ordered a slice of cake at the same time she had ordered her meal. When it arrived, no fork was provided, and she had to wipe the remnants of breakfast off her knife to cut it. Nobody approached the table to ask if we would like anything else. I live locally and the Blue Duck has been the go-to place to take visitors. The quality of the food and service fluctuated over the years but was never so bad that it was permanently eliminated from my list of places to eat. We were expecting great things from the new Longview but left really disappointed and certainly won't be repeat customers. Absolutely dismal service. Longview will depend on its location rather than customer satisfaction to survive.

We visited Longview a number of times when in Cottesloe sometimes for coffee and other times for food and drink. The place is large and well decorated but the star attraction is the balcony overlooking the beach. We sat out there on every occasion and view over the Indian ocean is stunning such a great place to eat and drink. Their coffee is good and their food, albeit a fairly limited menu, is also superb. I had chilli mussels which were really a tour de force.

We went to the Longview to watch the sunset from the verandah over a meal. It has one of the best ocean locations high above the beach. Hadn’t been back to Perth for some years, due to COVID, and found that our favourite Blue Duck had gone. The view was still there but the food we had was terrible. The menu was limited; we were looking for nibbles with our drinks before the main but very, very little to choose from. Settled on the Salt and Pepper Calamari (main) and Truffle Chips to start. The Chips were quite good but the Calamari was very poor. A handful of skinny, tasteless rings on a large bed of salad greens with an orange drizzle. Try the Calamari at the Freshwater restaurant in Peppermint Grove: twice the volume, two thirds the price and 3 times as tasty. We left after sunset and got our main meal elsewhere. Cottesloe has become such a popular tourist destination and it seems that many of the restaurants don’t care what poor fare they serve up to people who won’t come back anyway. Don’t go there. We won’t be back. RIP Blue Duck

This restaurant has arguably one of the best ocean view in the world. On the balcony overlooking the Indian Ocean and north Cottesloe beach. Went there for lunch on a busy Saturday afternoon. My friend had fried chicken with a very delicious cabbage sauce. I had the fish which was perfectly cooked and melting in the mouth. Service was excellent. Portions are small and it's relatively expensive. But well worth it.

We were visiting from Sydney and had the most amazing experience at Longview over a late lunch. Oysters were amazing. Prawn toast was from heaven. Raw fish with avocado and chilli dipping sauces that melted in your mouth. Home made bread and butter from another time that was sumptuous. The French waiters were so attentive and informative. We felt this was similar to a Michelin star restaurant. We returned for breakfast. Congratulations Longview- we will be back. Kind regards Liz and Bob
