For about PhP 600.00+++, this seafood platter is indeed a feast for the taste buds of four to five persons but was actually consumed only by three persons.
There is the curacha or spanner crab bathed in its special sauce (for which the restaurant is...known for), shrimps, shells, a couple of grilled squid, and tuna belly with green mangoes and bagoong. And a meal won't be complete without rice, so this platter comes with five cups of rice.
Thankfully, the curacha was already cracked open so it was easier to dig into it. The shrimps and squid were cooked just right and the grilled fish was sweet and flavourful.
The best way to devour seafood is to dig in with your hands al fresco. And their branch in Paseo del Mar was just the perfect spot.More
We had a good buffet dinner with 30 guests. The staff were very attentive and food was good. What is nice is that corkage was waived for some food our guests brought along. All function rooms were fully booked and I can see why. Though...pricey, especially for the seafood, it is still worth a visit especially when coming from abroad.More
An ideal place to devour seafoods cuisine, for Solo, Dinner dates, Friend gatherings, and even for office business meetings, to treat travelers alike.. A lovely place that makes you feel comfortable and at home..
Foods are mouth watering...
This is a very famous seafood restaurant in Zamboanga and is a must place to eat in when you visit but I was really disappointed with the service since our orders were served more than the 30-45 minutes after placing the order which I think...is really a long time to wait for orders to be served at the price they charge for famous dishes like curacha and crabs. The restaurant decor and ambience were very nice and colorful but the staff was mixed between regular staff and interns whcih was not good since there more interns who are not really helpful and cannot even take orders which is only allowed to regular staff. Our first order was delivered after 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes when we were told it will take 45 mins and additional orders we made after the first order were delivered another hour later so we had to stay for 3 hours in the restaurant to fianlly receive all orders whcih is really bad service despite the delicious seafood I am really not recommending the restaurant due to the bad combination of really high prices( 3 curacha for 1500php and bad late service.More
The curacha or spanner crab is a popular crustacean in this part of the country, looks like a crossbreed between a lobster and a crab. Curacha which can be found deep in the sea has a slightly salty flavor than the regular mud crab. Pincers...of the curacha are flat and does not have any meat. One famous restaurant built by a prominent family has turned it into an icon- the Curacha in Alavar Sauce. Made with coconut milk, curry, and a blend spices that remained a family secret, the sauce is smothered over steamed curacha. An extra cup of rice makes the best compliment for the creamy sauce!
Alavar’s main branch in Don Alfaro, Tetuan, Zamboanga City offers a more fine dining set-up. For reservations, call (062) 991 2483. The restaurant advice to order ahead because cooking fresh seafood requires more time. A waiting time of 30minutes is on their disclaimer. Their Paseo del Mar branch has a set-up similar to fast foods. They offer pre-cooked meals and barkada meals that is perfect if you are in a group of three to five.More
