Not impressed with this place. I was really hoping that the local mom and pop restaurant would be better and more authentic than the popular Mexican restaurants . Very disappointed in the quality of food. How can you mess up on ceviche which is the...easiest and simplest dish to make? The shrimp were baby gulf shrimp and rubbery which means it’s extremely over cooked. I had to put salt in the ceviche for flavor!More

Ate lunch here with a friend the other day. The chips and salsa were delicious. The service was super fast and friendly. There were not a lot of people in the restaurant. I ordered chicken enchiladas with a Molé sauce. My friend had pork taquitos....Although my food was tasty it was not very memorable and in the 30 minutes approximately to drive my friend home my stomach started churning and I barely made it home to hit the “can” if you know what I mean. I barely made it inside the house. Something in that food turned my guts into liquid very fast. I won’t return.More

I had high hopes going here for this first time. Started out good when I got chips and salsa in my Togo order which was not expected. Chips were fresh and salsa tasty. Down hill after that. I called in my order and very specifically...asked for the chimichanga to be "very crispy" and it was not crispy at all, which turns it into a burrito, not what I ordered. So instead of a delicious crispy lunch it was a soggy mess. The "beef" was certainly not hamburger but a stringy, chewy, unseasoned blob that was very unappealing. Needless to say plenty of other places to tryMore

We were greeted with warm smiles and friendly, efficient service. Our waiter was very attentive and our margaritas were delicious with the chips and salsa. My wife ordered their delicious chicken enchiladas and I had the T-bone steak with grilled vegetables and a baked potato....My medium rare steak was very tender and delicious. As you can see in the photo it was a Porterhouse steak with a large filet. I could have made a meal just on the grilled vegetables. The vegetables were tender and very tasty with a good blend of onions, peppers, cauliflower and broccoli. I brought the baked potato home as the meal was so plentiful. By far the best Mexican restaurant and the best restaurant overall in the Haymarket area.More

Delicious! I’ve been going here for years. Always good food & service. My family loves it too. When they visit they ask to eat dinner there.

The menu is all-inclusive and any diner should find what he/she would like. Generous portions. Great taste. Adds a lot to the Haymarket dining experience which is not large.

Cheese Quesadilla crispy and good, as well as cheese enchilada and crispy taco. Ordered extra cheese on everything and was disappointed. Slammed busy so service was slow.

We visited once before and enjoyed our food and service (B+ then), but this past Friday was absolutely average. Poor service, edible but not exciting fajitas, and my friend couldn't finish her taco salad as it was too bland. We did a lot of waiting...around for service and then the food fell flat making the experience one where we likely won't return.More

Fairly standard Mexican place. Nothing special or fancy, food was about average. Not really somewhere I’d go again unless everywhere else was busy. Not terrible just not amazing either.

Well, they may be the most tender, but to me needed more flavor. I've made them at home and they had more flavor as does Chipotle's so I was expecting these to have a lot of flavor. They weren't bad by any means, just a...little bland in comparison. They were so tender though. My husband and I were just killing time, not really that hungry so we split the meal. We liked their salsa, it's very similar to Chi Chi's medium in the jar so I don't know that it's freshly made. This was our first time coming to El Vaquero West based off TripAdvisor reviews. The place was nice and the people there are friendly. The prices were decent and they had a large menu. We will definitely come back, I want to try their fajitas.More

We love this place but our meals tonight were not of the same quality (e.g. cheese in the kids quesadilla and our enchiladas was almost soupy) as we’ve had in the past. Not giving up on them (service and hospitality were still spot on!) just...wasn’t satisfied with our meals this visit.More

I love a good carnitas plate and el vaquero does an amazing job with the spices and roasting. The team is also super friendly and prices are very reasonable.

Good attention and customer service, semi private tables and inexpensive. Food is not superb though. Guacamole seems not that fresh and taquitos mediocre.

Usually order fajitas, quesadillas and carne asada tacos and have always enjoyed. Nice staff, great margaritas and yummy food. Never had any issues and would recommend to friends

Once again one of the best places for Mexican food. Service is always the best, food consistently delicious, and the atmosphere just homely. I usually get their combination and it is the correct amount for me. The Rice and beans are good, always the same....A must place to visit at least once a month.More
