It was a real treat to come here and enjoy some excellent BBQ. This time it was the burnt ends sandwich platter. Everything about it from the sandwich to the sides, were outstanding.

It was worth every bit to come here to Willard's, as their BBQ is always first rate. I had the burnt ends sandwich, and it was a standout even among their top notch menu offerings. It was outstanding. The sides I had to accompany it...were also excellent. It definitely was a real treat to be able to stop by there and get some top notch BBQ. This is part of an account of our BBQ trip to North Carolina in October, 2021. There’s a review of each restaurant we ate at (Don Papa Grande, Chester, VA; Parker’s BBQ Restaurant, Greenville, NC; Marty’s BBQ, Wilson, NC; RJ’s Famous Chicken, BBQ, and Ribs,...Greenville, NC; Skylight Inn BBQ, Ayden, NC; Sam Jones BBQ, Winterville, NC; Sibley’s Bar-B-Q, Chester, VA). You can follow along or not as you please. We reviewed each place separately. And when we got home, we went back to a local BBQ place, Willards BBQ, Chantilly, VA. We’ve been to Willards BBQ often over the years, so we obviously like it well enough. How did it fare after our NC BBQ Tour? The answer is very well. At Willards, you order at the counter and pick up your own meal when ready. There are plenty of tables. What struck us was that Willards has a much broader menu than most NC BBQ spots. Ribs, pulled pork, pulled chicken, sliced brisket, brisket ends, BBQ chicken, and sausage. Jerked chicken too. It offers a full array of sides, interesting sandwiches, and a variety of desserts. Cornbread is lovely. Willards has been consistent over the years, and our recent visit showed that Willards is the same as always. The brisket ends were new, and they were great. Is Willards better than the best of the NC BBQ restaurants? Willards gets five stars. It’s not so much better than the best of NC as it is different…and familiar to us. The variety is a part of it. The food has been uniformly excellent. We’re happy that we can eat at Willards regularly, but we would be just as happy to eat at most of the NC places as well. Willards is reasonably priced for the DC area, more than some NC BBQ places, but quite a bit less than Sam Jones. Having eaten so mubh BBQ this week, we value Willards more than ever and now give it five stars.More

Okay, I'll start out by finding something positive. The soda was nice and cold, and they have bendy straws. The mashed potatoes and gravy were quite good. The baked beans were okay. As for the rest, it wasn't to our liking. The brisket and pulled...pork weren't that great to begin with. What compounded matters was the sauce they put on - it's funky tasting, with notes of mustard in it. The dirty rice was barely passable, and the green beans were either out of a can or just so flavorless that they ain't worth your time. You looking for good NC BBQ, I'm sorry, this ain't the place. Carolina Brothers in Ashburn is better, if you're up for the drive. Looking at the reviews, it clearly appeals to some, but we won't be visiting again.More

The charm and character of the restaurant was refreshing. The place was crowded but the order was filled quickly and the tables to sit and eat were plentiful. Very clean and the food was well worth the visit. I would love to go back here...to eat and wish there were more locations. Mac and cheese was top notch and worth another order just to taste it again. If you like BBQ this is a MUST!!!!!More

First time here and I wasnt sure how the ordering worked. Employee that took order was nice. Got the hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and green beans and it was very good. Will go back again when visit the area. Portions are large and...restaurant was clean. Parking in front.More

The chicken BBQ burrito bowl I had was all the way excellent. All of the ingredients were nicely put together, generously portioned, and was all fresh. In short, everything about this burrito bowl was superb.

The food at Willard’s is excellent. The chopped beef platter I had was generously portioned, and tasted great! Our food was ready only a couple of minutes after ordering. It was a very satisfying Saturday evening meal for us, tasty and filling. I look forward...to visiting again soon.More

New to the area and already envisioning that we're going to be here often for some grub! I had a brisket sandwich with green chili sauce, hubby had the Redneck Rollup (pictured). Both were fantastic and reasonably priced. The meat is really tender, the portions...are generous, and the atmosphere is relaxing. The main problem with this place is that the menu is huge and diverse with creative twists on bbq, making decisions difficult! And don't forget to grab some homemade pie... it looks amazing but I was too full to get some. Put on some comfy pants and take a seat for some great food.More

During covid, we were able to walk in and order food to go. The bbq was good, but not enough difference in the taste of the different meats.

Causal BBQ. Order at the counter and friendly service and large portions. Soda pop dispenser is self service.

So for this visit, I ordered a platter with 1/2 BBQ chicken. Everything about this platter was amazingly good. The portions were generous, and the chicken was flavorful and moist. The side dishes were tasty, and the cornbread was excellent. It took only a minute...or so after I ordered for my platter to be ready. Coming to Willard’s BBQ is a special treat, of which I look forward to many more in the weeks and months to come!More
