This was our fourth visit to Plate over the past many years. The staff is still as friendly as ever, but the food was not as good as in the past. Notably, the portion size of my main course (the squash) was tiny. If you...scooped out the filling, it was equivalent to maybe a small scoop of ice cream. I found only one cranberry and a tiny piece of chanterelle, the two items listed in the description, and the rest was squash and quinoa. $29. For an appetizer-sized portion. I was so hungry after dinner that I went back to the ski condo and ate a Belgian waffle, a bag of popcorn and a box of raisins. Disappointing. My son enjoyed his steak but also found the portion to be small. My husband’s veggie burger was just ok.More

We dined at Plate on a Wednesday night and it was packed. Our server Kenny was great. We all enjoyed our cocktails. Entrees were delish! Two of us had the halibut and loved it. Husband had scallops he thought the portion was small. The bananas foster...was also very good. Can’t wait to go back.More

During our family outing, we stumbled upon a restaurant that appeared to be quite appealing from the outside. Intrigued, we decided to give it a try. However, as soon as we entered, we sensed some discontent from the staff, although they didn't express it verbally....It became clear later on that they were not fond of walk-in customers, but we were unaware of this at the time. We requested a high-top table near the windows, but were promptly informed that it had been reserved. It seemed improbable to us that a specific table in an empty restaurant would be reserved hours in advance, but we understood that every business has its own practices. We asked for an alternative table near the window, to which they reluctantly seated us after attempting to put us all the way in the back near the kitchen, again, despite the restaurant being empty mind you. For the record, They didn't mention anything about this table also being reserved or any time constraints for our dining experience. Once seated, our waitress greeted us politely and took our drink orders. We were relaxed and enjoying ourselves until she returned and seemed surprised that we hadn't considered ordering any food yet. We promptly placed our food order, and this was the only instance where the server's demeanor was less than professional. I couldn't help but feel a bit awkward, as if we didn't belong there if we were only planning to have drinks with our family. After that initial hiccup, the service became impeccable. The bartender even engaged us in pleasant conversation, adding to our enjoyment of the evening. However, the waitress reluctantly approached us later on to inform us that there had been a prior reservation for our table. This information was not communicated to us at any point during our stay. It was requested that we settle our bill within the next 10 minutes, which left us feeling dissatisfied. Being rushed out of a restaurant, especially when there were plenty of available seats, was a new and unpleasant experience for us. We felt that they could have easily seated the other party near the kitchen, as they had initially planned to do with us. Nonetheless, since we were nearing the end of our meal and drinks, we had no issue accommodating their request within a reasonable timeframe. I left a generous tip of around 25% for our server and the bartender, appreciating the service they had provided. However, the owner abruptly appeared with a printed copy of the bill, demanding that we vacate the table so that another group could be seated. Her approach was forceful and somewhat rude, despite us never exhibiting any rudeness towards her. As a result, we had to gather in a group near the restroom hallway while my daughter used the facilities, as we had no designated waiting area like our own table. During this time, we encountered the party waiting for our table. We engaged in polite conversation and shared some light-hearted jokes about the strict policy of needing to vacate the restaurant within a certain timeframe due to other reservations. It was simply meant as a lighthearted jest, and we never intended to be disrespectful, especially to a party that had no involvement in our abrupt request to leave. Contrary to what the owner may claim, there was no rude behavior, vulgar language, or offensive gestures. I am disheartened that the owner would stoop so low as to fabricate such accusations in order to maintain a positive image in reviews. Such dishonesty is beneath any establishment in which I would choose to dine. Despite the unfortunate behavior of the owners and hostesses, the restaurant itself has many positive aspects. However, due to our overall experience, I can only give it a two-star rating.More

How a chef doesn’t know how to grill a steak is baffling. The steak was over cooked and almost cold—not sure how you achieve that. And not a cake, pie, or anything chocolate on the dessert menu. In defense, the other guests enjoyed their meal...but stay away from the steak.More

Small gem of a restaurant provided fabulous dining experience. Recommended by a family member we got an early reservation, but didn’t know what to expect. Result: best Stowe dinner of the week. Both our meals were superb! Both food and service excellent. My wife had...haddock and I enjoyed the scallop dish. Ended our feast with bananas Foster. We both agree that Plate may well offer the best dining experience currently in Stowe.More

Plate came highly recommended by locals and tourists alike so it was an easy decision to reserve a table for two during one of our three nights in Stowe. Upon arrival our table was ready but it appears no one else was. We sat and...waited a good 15-20 minutes before we summoned a hostess to send us our server. Seth arrived promptly and apologized for the wait. Seth is a well known waiter in the area and does they best he can with a clear lack of support around him. I counted one waiter and 1 waitress on the floor during our time at Plate. There are three young hostess’ that help run food from the kitchen but the chefs are SLOW so there isn’t much running to be had. No sight of a manager or owner in the place. My wife had the fettuccine which was well cooked but the rest of the dish was very salty. I had the bar steak for $6 more than Harrison’s NY Sirloin and it was over-cooked. It was an overall letdown and we will not be back.More

We were really looking forward to dinner at Plate on our trip this year. Unfortunately, the service and dinner were very disappointing. Food was mediocre, the meat was undercooked to a dangerous level, and the waitress was inattentive and defensive when we pointed out the...issue with our meal. There are too many good restaurants in Stowe to justify coming back here.More

I grew old waiting for my meal. 25 minutes befor someone came to greet us at our table and take drink orders, 45 minutes before we received our first drink, appetizers at an 1:15, and entrees at 1:45… I don’t mind a leisurely dinner, but...I received a social security check before coffeeMore

Managed to get a table for Thursday evening, checked the menu and reviews, we were really looking forward to Plate, they even contacted us to offer an earlier table - which was great, and much appreciated! Our experience was really poor! The food? Pork was...lovely, but served with ‘lukewarm’ Spetzl! Gnochi, looked good, but the portion size I would have described as an ‘appetizer’! The fish, Bass, looked and tasted great, until we got to the middle, where it was RAW! This issue’ was handled, in our opinion very poorly, and not in keeping good service standards Overall, frustrating and very disappointing! Would we return? No!More

Had a great meal and you cannot beat the location right on Main Street in Stowe. Lots of people came in trying to get a table while we were there, but they were booked. My quibble is that they're pumping incredibly loud music adding to...the din of the very crowded restaurant. I was actually hoarse leaving the restaurant from trying to be heard in our small party. We mentioned this to the server and he said "I know, it's so loud that people have to shout at each other, which adds to the noise, but that's the way we roll". One of the people I was with said that there's research that shows that a loud environment leads to more sales of beverages. Obviously, I have no way to know if that's the idea, but it didn't work with us if it is because we got out of there as soon as we were done. I'd go back, but not on a busy night.More

In between your creative and delightful cocktails, be sure sure to sample the homemade gnocchi and tuna sashimi salad. Both dishes were the best versions of themselves I've ever tasted. Thumbs way up.
