From the outside, Union Grill looks like it would deliver on a high level. I ordered the Meatloaf which was probably a 6/10 on its own, however the sides seemed llvery low quality - had the taste of instant mashed potatoes and bagged frozen veggies. Service was good but the bar tender didn’t make much of an attempt to have a convo or be social with her guests. 5/10 overall for the meal

Great restaurant, nice ambience, fun vibe, good eats, great history. They would have gotten 4 stars had the wine service been better. Dining in Utah, one needs to be careful about managing expectations. So many times I will look at a wine list, choose the wine of my liking, only to be told that sorry, we don't have that one. Believe it or not, this has happened for the 2nd or 3rd request as well!!! I have even been known to ask when I do order a bottle if they have a second one if needed. It is disgusting that a restaurant will not cover their bar. It is also very much a Utah thing.

We stopped on our way back to our hotel in SLC. We all enjoyed our meals of meatloaf and beef medallions. The iced tea was full of flavor for being unsweetened. We did order dessert and weren’t disappointed. The caramel bread pudding is mouth watering. I would share it next time because the portions are huge. Everyone was friendly and the service was good. I do recommend the servers clear plates more frequently. I prefer not to order dessert when all the dirty plates are still on the table, including the salad plates. We would eat there again!

Let me start by saying I have been flying all day on a business trip and I will be here for about a month. I really just wanted something really tasty before I turn in for the night. It also is not far from my hotel so I was hoping to make this a regular place to go to. It had a really cool ambiance and My waiter was pretty good until he brought me my food and then disappeared. The restaurant was completely empty except for two other tables oh, and this may be because it was Sunday night, and I don't know where he disappeared to. I got the bone in ribeye which was $32 so I expected it to be amazing. I ordered it medium and received it medium rare and very chewy but I ate it anyway because I don't like to send steaks back. I also order fries instead of mashed potatoes and he said oh that's easy and then brought me mashed potatoes, lol. He did bring me fries when I pointed it out. He was a pretty decent guy and maybe I thought he didn't come over enough because of how bad my food was. Overall he did much better than the food did. I will not be back.

From the first interaction we had with staff, pretty unimpressive. Was told that there was a 10 minute wait for a table when they only had about 5 tables with guests sitting. The table we finally got sat at was open when we first came through the door. Server wasn't very attentive, or friendly. She tried to rush us the few times she actually came to the table. The calamari was good and cooked very well, breading was good but could have used a little salt. The dipping sauces they have for the calamari were ok, would have been much better with a spicy marinara. I had the french onion soup, most of the cheese was melted on the out side of bowl. Broth was good, but there was a bunch of burnt somethings on the bottom of the bowl. Wife ordered the fish and chips. Chips are spot on! The fish was cooked good, but the fish to batter ratio was way off. Way too much batter, and fried too long. The whole experience doesn't say they want our business, so probably never coming back.

Went to Union Grill for lunch with some co-workers yesterday. I was thinking of getting the caprese appetizer but I know it’s sometimes hard to find good tomatoes in the winter, so I asked our waiter, who shall remain nameless in the spirit of the season, how their tomatoes were looking. He replied in a snarky tone that he didn’t know, it wasn’t like he chopped them personally or anything. I explained why I was asking and he said, “Well, they’re not going to give you shi**y tomatoes.” There were several other similarly unimpressive interactions with him throughout the lunch. Nobody needs that type of negativity and poor service in their life. Our food was, averaged out, just OK. The fries were battered, crispy and quite good. The burgers were declared to be mediocre. My boss found the Mac n Cheese to be delicious and creamy. My caprese did indeed have non-shi**y tomatoes, but the basil looked like it had fallen on tough times. I also had the soup and salad: the French Onion soup tasted like a bouillon cube and the salmon pasta salad consisted of some spiral pasta with a few veggies and a little salmon, dressed in what tasted like store bought ranch. The atmosphere is impressive, however. Whoever decorated the place did a great job. It is eclectic and interesting. Unfortunately, in the balance, I don’t think I’ll be back.

I used to love the Union Grill. Not this time. Ordered fish and chips. The batter was too thick. The fish alright. The fries average. No dipping sauce at all just some ketchup came with it. The vegetables were burned and tasted burned and dry. As fast as the food came out not much was fresh here. Sad they lost a customer.

We ordered onion rings (not much flavor or very hot), French onion soup (not much flavor), Beef medallions (mashed potatoes looked old and crusty, steak under seasoned, green beans flavorless and cold), French fries just OK (not very hot). The most tasty thing we ordered was the side of rice and seasoned black beans for our 3 year old. Don’t expect an excellent meal here. Nothing was very hot or particularly fresh. The atmosphere is pretty cool kind Like an old western saloon mixed with an industrial space. It was pretty full of customers and no one looked unhappy.

Good food and attentive staff. The soup special chicken vegetable curry soap was the best soup we had ever had! Fries were perfection! Rest of the food was good but not over the top. Enchiladas were just not up to California Mex level. They were training new staff and service was great.

Stopped for a late lunch after touring around the city. They have a good selection to choose from...we chose the cob salad. It came with a generous portion of avocado and shrimp as well. Dessert was cheese cake and caramel bread pudding. You can't go wrong with either of those two. Fun decor and great history....will most definitely go back when in the area again!

The food was okay, not off the chart good but fine… Thought the service was slow until I realized that are server was doing all the work in the front of the house. We saw her run her ass off and realized two hostesses were just hanging out at the check in area, two other servers were really to busy talking about other things and totally not checking on other customers, our poor girl seemed like she was the only one that cared about customer service:-/ really a shame, she bussed three tables, waited on three to four tables that we saw and never did we see anyone else do anything to help her out…. All in all, food okay( but pricey), her service was killer and would go back to see her and maybe visit with her a bit more.. I owe a restaurant and bar for 20 years and recognize good servers wherever I go with my wife as well… short, long haired , not sure what her name is but she should train the rest of the front of the house on keeping busy and checking on tables… She needs a hourly wage increase for sure:-)

Take your wife on a date. Order the margarita nachos and share them. Very inexpensive and super good. If you are still hungry order the bread pudding and share that. It will not disappoint. Yes, I said bread pudding. It’s a dense version that is great.

Best turkey sandwich I’ve ever had. Glad Cajun sauce came on the side. Pasta salad could of been a meal by itself. My friend had chicken carbonara and rates it ok

We drove quite a way , but we do that to review and to see what food is good, what is not so. I'll get the not so favorite stuff out of the way first. The Coke is a poor mixture. Not enough syrup, so the drink 'bites'. The prices are a tad high, but I expect the rent on this joint is up there. Wednesday and only two servers, so it was a tad slow. The French Onion soup was very good. Carbonaro chicken was also very good, but not excellent. They did not leave us hungry, so come with an appetite. Ambience is excellent. Perhaps another time we will try something different. I was told by another couple the bread pudding is tops.

This place is on the main street and has a very nice atmosphere. I had the French dip, my son had a hamburger and my husband had the French Onion soup. All 3 were VERY good and the sweet potato fries were the best I have every had. Hannah was a great server.
