Our second time visiting this restaurant and this time I was smart and made reservations. It's always busy here and I can definitely see why. The food, the service, the drinks and the ambiance are all quite well done. As many of you know from my other reviews, my wife is vegetarian. The chefs were very accommodating and Donna got a great plate of burritos and chile rellenos. I had the Carnitas Montegna. Both were outstanding as well as our queso fundido appetizer. The margaritas were exceptional and our server, Zach, was the most attentive and professional young man we have had in a long time. There aren't many good Mexican restaurants in our area of Salt Lake City but, this one in Ogden is "Killah."

This is a must stop place for us when we are in Ogden. It is directly across the street from our hotel. Now you might think, being from Tucson AZ, we would not to go for Mexican food while on vacation. Well, this is not your typical Mexican restaurant nor is it traditional Mexican. This more upscale Mexican. They serve chips and salsa when you are seated. The chips are full round deep fried tortillas about 6 inches. You get a green tomatillo salsa, a medium red salsa and for .99 cents a habanero salsa. Yes you can get tacos, burritos, and enchiladas but again they are not typical of Mexican restaurant style. My wife loves their blackened mahi-mahi tacos. I love their civichie. This time was no different. They had a special civichie trio which was great. Shrimp in a red sauce, white fish in a habanero pineapple sauce and shrimp and fish in a coconut sauce. Just great. Service is always first class. We also had a Serrano margarita. Not your typical margarita, this one has large chunks of Serrano peppers in it. Prices are fair especially for the portion size. So if you are in Ogden, give them a try.

While I wouldn’t consider this authentic Mexican food, it was still absolutely delicious. I had the Chilli Relleno with shrimp. 10/10 and the bartender was very pleasant and nice to talk to. Would be back in a heartbeat in my next trip to Ogden

We asked the waitress for recommendations and she pointed out 3 dishes, all were the most expensive on the menu. We tried tow of them and one had such a weird flavor and the other was just greasy. We were not impressed with the service we received as well. It was definitely not worth the price we paid.

Loved the atmosphere and our server. Service was fast and error free. We eat a lot of Mexican food and Tex-Mex so we know our issue wasn’t due to delicate guts. The official chips/dip were a Smokey pepper dip and a tomatillo dip. The tomatillo was mostly lime juice and the pepper simply didn’t appeal to us. The meals were acceptable but non of us (3)had rave reviews and agreed it was a disappoint. Within an hour of leaving there, 2/3 of us had a huge stomach ache. It resolved over 3 hours but it put a damper on our night.

From the moment we entered the servers were difficult to deal with. We wanted to wait for our party in the bar & that took 15 minutes to decide & then we couldn't sit at the empty bar because one of our guests was under age but we couldn't sit at a table because we were not ordering food there and the server couldn't run a tab because he didn't know where we would be sitting for dinner. When we went to order they nolonger carrier a beer they've always carried & we were told they don't carry IPAs because they are remodeling & IPAs don't go with the theme. WHAT? We finally get to our table & order our dinner which took an hour to come to the table & we waited just as long for our drinks. Then half of our dinners were wrong so they started our orders over. Keep in mind all of the pictures of the meals include rice, beans, & a lettuce garnish which you don't get. $12.95 for your burrito 🌯 or chimi, or enchiladas. The waiter said the menus says doesn't include rice & beans but we didn't see that. When my chimi arrived is had diced pineapple which it's never had before, I wrongly assumed it would be a chunk & I could take it off but they were tiny. I didn't like the sweet mixture but that's my fault. But when I was honest & said they've never had the pineapple like that before & he said theyve always had it that way. I know they didnt but I always order the same thing & I have a condition that when inhave red sauces & pineapple it eats away at my tongue. But he argued with me. Dinning here took over 4 hours. It's loud, very difficult to visit & who in the heck has Mexican food without rice & beans...they are the cheapest part of a dang meal. The server said most people don't eat rice & beans anyway. Wow! The men's room was out of order & the water in the ladies room was scalding. There is a sign so take it as BEWARE. Not going again. FYI we are locals.

We finally went back. First, I do not trust reviews in Ogden. Don't know why, but some of these reviews are way out of whack. First, the 'chips' are 5 inches in diameter (measured) I guess that is OK, but they must be broken up to dip. As a benefit, they do bring a verde and a red salsa. Neither is wonderful, but both are OK. There is NO Mexican ambience. It looks like this was a building made so that if a Mexican eatery would not work, they could quickly change it to an auto parts store. The fajitas were OK, but past the veggies and sauce, there was very little chicken. The server was excellent. The real way to learn which cafe people like is to see the traffic. It is hard to get a parking place or a table at the place on Ogden Avenue. If this was as highly rated as indicated, you would not be able to get in the door. I rated it now as 'average' as that is exactly what it is.

We really used to love to come to the Sonora Grill. Last night will be our last visit. The changes that the restaurant has made are horrible. You have to pay for chips/salsa now. Large chips are gone, they "say" they make these, but I felt they were out of a SISCO box... You also have to pay for beans/rice. Honestly, the menu has changed so much, had a hard time finding what we wanted. IMO - it was a bad idea, poor business choice. I know we won't be back.

I've eaten here 4 or 5 times with my daughter and I always enjoy the food. The service can be slow at times. I think this is because they are usually very busy. The area where they are located is usually difficult to find parking so factor this into your plans.

Second visit to this restaurant, and it doesn’t disappoint. Great choices of authentic Mexican Food with outstanding beverage selections. Impressive service, fast and friendly. Ordered the Moyo de Ayo, roasted garlic shrimp with coconut almond rice and spinach. Absolutely amazing flavor and a good portion as well. Fancy margaritas and specialty beers, including standards, local micros, and Mexican beers. Worth the visit if you’re looking for great Mexican Food and premium drinks.

I love the food (and really appreciate the vegan options). I can't think of a meal I have had here that was not delicious. I'm also totally OK with the menu changes and cost increases. I made a comment that charging for chips was "nickel and dimey" and they responded with a thoughtful explanation about how small the profit margin is for an independent restaurant in Ogden (0-5%). They said they were literally staying in business based on nickels and dimes. It made me rethink my restaurant choices, and I very rarely eat at a chain restaurant now. I would be really sad if Sonora wound up on a long list of good restaurants that couldn't survive in Ogden.

This place was recommended by friends and since they lived in Ogden (and were meeting me for dinner) I thought this would be a great place. And it was. Excellent cocktails and food. I had the Chili Rellenos. My friends both had the shrimp tacos. Since I did not hear a word from either friend during the meal (and their plates were spotless at the end) I assume that the shrimp tacos were good. My chili rellenos were excellent. Unlike anything I have ever had. I love chili rellenos anyway, but these were “over stuffed” with creamy melted cheese and a very crispy skin. Like I said, unlike any other chili rellenos that I have had in the past. Great selection of adult beverages too. Definitely a repeat.

We always enjoy coming here with the fam when we are in town visiting. We live in California, and good Mexican food is tough to find when you’re spoiled. They have the best Chile Rellenos I’ve ever had, and the Cochinita Pibil is on point. My favorite there is the Mango Jabanero Margarita for a boosy refreshment! I’m not a fruity drink fan, but this one is too good! Always nice staff, and nice ambience. Great spot to eat when in Ogden!

I travel all over for work and one thing that gets tiring is the Mexican food that is all smooshed together on a plate, cheese is thrown on top, put under a broiler, lard and all. I tend to crave the type of Mexican food that might be ordered at a top-end restaurant in Mexico City and that is precisely what Sonora Grill is! There are plenty of vegan and vegetarian options and all the food is just great! The ambiance is fantastic. The service is sublime. I LOVE THIS PLACE! Highly recommended. It is a gem inside an area of Ogden that has become a vibrant scene. Congrats to the Sonora Grill team for nailing it out of the park with this restaurant!

Very nice inside and out. Small patio. Excellent service. Chips are the size of an unfolded corn taco shell! Sauces are very good. But beware, more chips cost extra. I had chicken fajitas that were a bit different than most. Everything was cooked together on one skillet. Cheese, pepper, onions, meat, everything and then guacamole and sour creme on the edge. Pretty good, but not the best I've had. Everyone else said there food was very good. Drinks were excellent. And don't forget dessert. I recommend the Banana flautas.
