One of my favorite spots in Houston! Be sure to make a reservation ahead of time because they get super filled up (any time and any day). I don’t recommend the group specials, but instead order exactly what you like. My HIGHLY recommended items: tuna volcano (AMAZING), beef sukiyaki bibimbap, harami skirt steak (this is hands down the best meat with the best sauce, we order several of only this one every time), and broccoli. Download the GYU KAKU app on your phone, you get really great rewards ― especially if you save up your points!

Very comparable to Korean BBQ as you cook the meats on a grill in your own table. My wife and I enjoyed the meat lovers and the food was adequate for us, my wife is tiny so she doesn’t eat much if she did then I would have left hungry. Our only issue was our server. We believe he was new to serving so and wait time on simple requests took longer than expected. Every time he brought me a beverage I would order another one right then. 30 mins later my beverage would be gone and I would have to remind him that I had ordered another. Still it is worth a try if you have never been!

I've been to more than one Gyu-Kaku, and this one is still No. 1. Not just because of the great food and service that never let me down. This place is nor far from the Museum District, which includes Hermann Park and Houston Zoo, and a lot of other fun places for family or for myself. So you can plan your trip in downtown Houston like this: set this restaurant as you dining spot, have a great Japanese BBQ, and then take a walk in the park, or a museum, or the zoo. Life couldn't be better at this moment, right?

We enjoyed very much the Japanese BBQ.
Everything was tasty, fresh and entertaining to grill on the table ourselves.
Strongly recommended…

Absolutely great experience! Delicious meats that you cook yourself to perfection! I loved it! The fried rice was amazing! The place does get busy so you might want to make a reservation! Great food definitely highly recommended!

We stopped here unexpectedly and since my girls like to try different tastes of foods we went in for dinner. We chose to eat outdoors due to a 45 minute wait inside so expect a busy place! The menu a bit overwhelming so we asked the waiter to explain it to us. You could order a la carte or full meals to cook yourself. We ordered a la carts because seems like we get to try what we knew we would like. We got to cook the beef ourselves on the grill in front of us. The food was very tasty and enough for everyone. I had a mai tai omg very good!! Overall we enjoyed eating here and we plan to go back.

We stopped by this place on a Sunday without reservation. That is not a good idea because this place is packed. Got a table after 30 min. Ordered a soup. Tasted good. Reasonable prices. But the place is not clean. It is a little greasy. Middle score.

We go before the theatre around 5:00 pm. They have great set dinners at happy hour prices. Get the app to earn points and rewards for $$ off and free food. Note this is a Asian BBQ....you grilll your own food on table grill. Fun! Staff is great!

Our friends have been telling us about this place for at least a year. We finally went with them to try it. I suggest making reservations like we did, especially if you go on the weekend. We ordered the special for 4 people for $120, lots of food!! First miso soup and salad, both were so good! Then they bring the vegetables which were asparagus and buttered corn to grill. Then we got the rice and noodles bowls and then comes all the meat to cook. It was really neat to cook your own meat, all of it was delicious! Dessert is s’mores, they are included with the special we got, but they were out of s’mores when we were there. That was the only let down.

Must try - Meat Lover lunch special. Also the calamari rings are exceptionally tender and fresh. Their stone-bowl rice is also up to par with classic Korean restaurant

Tucked away in a Houston restaurant/shopping plaza, this place is pretty average. That's not a bad thing. Good meat choices (marinated and plain beef, pork, chicken and shrimp), coupled with a la carte veggies. A little pricey for one, but there would be too much food for two. Split the salad/soup appetizers and order 3 meats. Basically you cook yourself, which is pretty common. All good though.

I was in Houston on business and a colleague said we should try Gyu-Kaku. He is familiar with the Japanese culture, I am not. I relied his input.
The menu has courses geared for multiple people. For example we had the meat lovers bbq for $58. It was designed for two.
There is a grill in the middle of the table and you cook each type of meat on the grill to your liking. We used the chop sticks, etc. We also had beef tongue. At the end of the meal you received the ingredients to cook your own s’mores.
Since your doing the cooking you should like it. I found it fun to cook the food. It forced me to slow down and it was very enjoyable and relaxing.
The service was good and I’m certain I’ll be back there when I’m in town.
