While visiting my son in the area, I wanted to experience a real Texas BBQ smokehouse that I can't experience living in south Florida. While there is a more famous one in Dallas, Hutchins was close by and we decided give them a try. We were not disappointed! From the moment we walked in to the moment we left (full and happy), this is exactly what I was looking for. There are two carvers ready to serve and the nice young man provided us samples of burnt ends, lean brisket, and cheddar/jalapeno sausage. He also gave us a little taste of the beef rib that they are known for. All were delicious and ended up on our meat tray. The meat is sold by the pound, so you should expect that beef rib to be pricey, but it was worth it! Next are all the self serve side dishes and there are a lot. You just grab a cardboard container and fill it up. Another employee told us to fill them up to the brim because you are getting charged the same regardless of the amount. You can also mix and match. We loaded up on coleslaw, potato salad, fried okra, mac n cheese, and cream corn. All were delicious, especially the potato salad. If you still have room in your stomach (or even if you don't), you are provided free ( to customer dining in) a dessert bar with excellent banana pudding, peach cobbler, and soft serve vanilla ice cream. Wow, what a finish! I would be remiss if I didn't mention the attentive and friendly employees who take care of you when you sit down at the family style tables inside. If you need a drink refill or anything else, they are there to get it for you. My son also mentioned how clean and tidy the dining room was. BBQ is not the most upper crust cuisine and you will smell like smoke when you leave, but Hutchins pays attention to detail when it comes to cleanliness. All in all a great representation of what I expected Texas BBQ to be. Hutchins exceeded my expectations and I would definitely visit again when in the area.

Hutchins BBQ in Plano, Texas, offers a vibrant taste of authentic Texas barbecue that’s hard to resist. The ribs were the highlight of my meal—perfectly cooked and incredibly tender, they practically fell off the bone, bursting with flavor from the seasoning. The selection of sides was also impressive, with options like creamy coleslaw and tangy potato salad that complemented the main dishes beautifully. However, I found the dry brisket to be a bit of a letdown. While it had a nice smoky flavor, it lacked the moisture I was hoping for. Despite this, the overall experience was enjoyable, thanks to the welcoming Texas ambiance that makes you feel right at home. With friendly service and a laid-back atmosphere, Hutchins BBQ is definitely worth a visit for barbecue lovers, especially for those delectable ribs!

I am traveling from out of town, and I always like to try out local recommendations for food. Today brought me to Hutchins, which boasts 60,000 votes as the best BBQ in DFW! I had to try it myself! For starters, I very rarely give 5 stars unless it’s above and beyond my expectations. Arriving you are met with the Smokey smells of BBQ, but also with a line of people. The locals absolutely love this place and the line outside shows it. When you enter, you are met with a platter of meats you pay by the pound. Today I went with smoked jalapeño & cheese sausage, wet brisket, pork ribs, and a Texas Twinkie (I had no clue what it was but it came highly recommended). You have your choice of the house original BBQ sauce, and two sauces at your table. The original sauce is a Smokey sweet base with back end notes of Tang. It actually went perfect with everything today. Clearly the champion that holds the food together. The sausage compared to others I had this week had chunky pieces of jalapeño and cheese. The heat factor was fairly low, which was pleasant as I could enjoy the Smokey balance of flavors. Moving to ribs— they fell off the bone — and were moist and seasoned properly. The seasoning held up good against the level of smoke and it was a pleasant surprise. The Texas Twinkie —- why have I NEVER had this before… absolutely amazing. It’s a bacon wrapped jalapeño popper with brisket stuffed inside. It was absolutely fantastic. I did wish for a little more flavor out of the interior meat a bit, but I’m just being very picky at that point. The only mistake — and I admit it was my mistake and was my decision on dry or wet brisket. I should have went dry, but I picked wet, which was great flavors but was to fatty for me to fully enjoy fully. I cannot fault them for that. I definitely recommend Hutchins to anyone traveling and wants SOLID BBQ eats in the DFW area. Best recommendation yet!

If they’re going to only sell by the pound, they need to learn how to gauge their cuts. I asked for a quarter pound brisket and they sliced it up, plated, weighed and it was 1/3 pound. Then asked CB me if that was ok. No, if I had wanted a third, I would have ordered a third. That’s a heck of an upsale if that happens often. So the family of three dinner that I was expecting to be $45ish came to $75. It’s good BBQ, but not THAT good.

I've had good BBQ and not so good BBQ. This place is almost at the top of the good list. My number one is the Salt Lick in Austin. My wife and I were in Frisco, TX for a wedding were told to go to Hutchins BBQ, if we wanted to have a great Texas style dinner. Boy, were they right. The meats were perfectly cooked and the staff treated us like family. My wife had a brisket sandwich and I had a pulled pork sandwich. Both were excellent. As you walk into the restaurant you can grab the drink of your choice or get a fountain drink later on. Then you have to decide what you want to eat. There's a chalk board over the counter, so you know the prices and what's still available. Yes, we got there at about 6:30 pm and they were already out of chicken and pork ribs. Now keep in mind that they have 14 smokers going at the same time and they still ran out. After you pick your meats, there is a generous selection of sides to choose from. We got a table and pigged out. We then found out that dessert was "on the house", included with the meal. How much can one person eat? The next time I'm in Frisco, I'm definitely coming back...but a lot earlier.

We went during a weekday night. The place was packed. The line went out the door for some length. After about 20 minutes, we were inside, another 10 minutes and we were up to the counter to place our order. The employees were kind and helpful. The meats are good, and so are the vegetables. After getting our food, the line continued for about 8 more minutes where we paid. In order to pay, you have to touch an iPad screen, sharing your germs with the last hundred people that used it. The payment screen will prompt you to tip between 15 and 25%. There was an option not to tip, but I did tip. This accomplished, we went to wash our hands. We had to wander around for about 10 more minutes to find an available table. With the payment and table finding tasks accomplished, our food had assumed room temperature. You're eating on paper/cardboard using plastic utensils. Rather unusual when you pay $70 for two people. ($30 more and we could've gone to Ruth's Chris.) I noticed other people who were familiar with this restaurant had brought in Coke products from home. If I go back, I will try to return closer to closing time (they close early, 9 PM), when they're not so busy and I will make sure to bring my own Coke with me.

Absolutely one of the best BBQ I’ve ever had! Enticing smoky smell outside in parking area, typical BBQ joint decor inside and great meats! We ordered the Prime Brisket, Pork Ribs, Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage, the speciality Cow Rib, Texas Twinkies and couple sides. Everything was delicious, especially the Prime Brisket (we asked for fatty cuts) is out of the world, so tender and melts in your month. They have complimentary Peach Cobbler and Banana Pudding dessert for dine-in customers, as well as soft serve ice-cream! Highly recommend this joint if you like/love smoked meats.

The food and service were phenomenal! We tried to find somewhere to eat after the solar eclipse and the line for eating in was wrapped around the building and then some. We discovered that alternatively, guests can walk up to a takeout counter inside the front doors and order for takeaway. The line for takeout was much shorter and we received our food within five minutes, very impressive. Staff were friendly and efficient and answered our questions, and when we discovered that there was a mixup in our order, they let us keep the wrong item and gave us what we had actually ordered also. I had the chopped brisket smothered in bbq sauce and my husband had the sliced brisket. The sauce was delicious, the meat perfectly soft and melted in our mouth. We tried the mac and cheese and potato salad and they were incredibly thick and creamy. Not kidding, I would go here just for the potato salad, it was the best I have had anywhere. Portions were large, prices are reasonable. The regular sauce wasn't spicy but the twinkies were much spicier. Would love to go back if we are ever in the area again to eat in and try out their free dessert buffet. First time trying Texas BBQ and we picked a good place.

Loved this Texas bbq place. Everything was great tasting. Included with dine-in soft-serve and peach cobbler and banana pudding completed our gastronomic venture in Dallas. Over ordered was the problem because our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. Long line of 30+ minutes dampened the desire to come return. But must come back.

Outstanding BBQ and classic atmosphere in the the suburbs. Brisket is perfectly smoked and seasoned. The ribs offer plenty of meat. The original sauce is tangy and sweet. You know you are in for a truly authentic Texas treat when you see the loaves of white bread and Big Red soda on tap. It's all topped off with complimentary peach cobbler and banana pudding complete with vanilla wafers. My wife loved seeing Pepsi products. It isn't cheap, but you won't go away hungry. We'll definitely be back.

I ordered beef ribs to go. It came on a large bone, greasy and too much FAT meat. This meat literally made my daughter and I sick to our stomach. It is sold by the pound, I mainly paid for bone, too expensive. Will not purchase again.

We were visiting from Missouri. We have very similar restaurants there. The meat was very good. Sides were okay - load up a couple bowls and share or it’s very expensive. Not many sauce options. The similar restaurant we have in St. Louis has many different sauce options and that’s part of what I really love. The commentary desert was nice.

This was our second BBQ in as many days, and this was a definite improvement over the first (a very famous Texas establishment) . Brisket was succulent and tender. Both sides - broccoli salad and fried okra were delicious (okra could use less salt though). Service inside is friendly and prompt. The only negative is the long and slow line outside. We expected that, but the speed of movement could use some acceleration. For reference, the speed of line at the "other" famous Texas establishment moved much, much faster. Overall, great experience.

We were told by three separate couples that we should come here for BBQ before leaving, and we were not disappointed. The food is delicious, the staff is extremely friendly and you can have as many sides/dessert as you want. It is important to know that their beef ribs usually sell out by 5 PM, so if you want to try them, you have to get there before five. Unfortunately, they had sold out by the time we got there, however, I had their brisket sandwich, which was delicious.

Hutchins is an absolute gem! From the moment you step in, the ambiance exudes warmth and hospitality. But let's talk about the peach cobbler - it's nothing short of heavenly. Each spoonful is a delightful blend of juicy peaches, perfectly spiced, and topped with a golden, buttery crust that simply melts in your mouth. Yes, the price might be a tad higher, but trust me, it's worth every penny. You're not just paying for a meal; you're investing in an unforgettable dining experience where quality and taste reign supreme.
