First time back here for a very long time. My daughter comes here regularly and we decided to visit for lunch based on her recommendation. Window table with lovely sea views was nice. Pretty good choices on menu. The fish and chips were excellent, a...lovely piece of cod. My wife had the Welsh rarebit which she enjoyed but £10 for a bit of cheese on toast and some skinny chips is way too pricey in my opinion. Can’t fault the staff or the service though. We will come back again, just a shame the prices are just a tad high. Top tip…. It’s table no 3 if you want the best sea views!More

First visit here. Starters were expensive but good. The garlic mushroom starter was huge ! I had the bread and dips, my only criticism of this dish was the oil and balsamic (I'm presuming it to be balsamic, but it has a fruity, delicious flavour)...dip had way way too much oil, I had to pour some out into another bowl to be able to get the balsamic or whatever it was. The mains we're ok, chicken duo and linguine. Just lacked something special. The chicken was nicely cooked, bonbons were ok, lacked taste and seasoning. Daughter said linguine ok. Nothing to complain about but just lacked that something special you look forward to when you eat out. Service ok. There was nothing we could say was great but nothing to complain about. Average.More

Even better than i remember I have not eaten at the toad since pre lockdown , then it was very tasty but the food tonight was exceptional We had the baby squid and bread and olives to start , squid cooked to perfection very light...and crispy Home made hummus and pesto - very tasty For mains we had the trio of chicken and the trio of duck The meat was so tender and melted in our mouths , loved the sauce it was served with along with the veg cooked perfectly al dente And what made the night even better was the staff were extremely friendly and we could even bring our well behaved dog Fabulous local pub with outstanding food and w great wide range of beers and winesMore

Duck overcooked, hasselback potatoes soggy, too much pickled ginger in the spring rolls... carrots were nice, kids burgers were OK, not what I expected from the menu description and the price

I haven’t been to The Toad in about 15 years and so I was so impressed with the food and the interior change. The menu was spot on lots of choices and I struggled to decide what to have. I ended up having the duck...and my partner had the roast beef roast dinner. Both were absolutely delicious, could not fault it. My favourite was the homemade cauliflower cheese and buttered cabbage, was amazing! The service was excellent, we gave a £10 tip as despite the staff being rushed off their feet they were still super efficient and friendly! Can’t praise enough, gutted we were so stuffed from the starters and mains that we couldn’t force down a pudding! Definitely will be going back, we love The Toad!More

Asked for a window seat but never got one, clearly used a lot for local's so not giving good seats to people who book. Food was ok, standard pub grub. Waitress was nice. We did get asked 8 times if we wanted pudding, even though...we said we will let them know when we did. We all thought (8) that it was over priced.More

Should be 3 & a half * Had the fish & chips, the battered fish was excellent but the so called triple cooked chips were simply awful, insipid looking & tasteless, had to leave some. Another point but my preference here, didn't like the pea...puree(trying to be too cheffy) would have preferred mushy peas. Nice place, nice staff.More

Went to the Toad to celebrate a family birthday. We all ordered started, mains and sweets. All were delivered efficiently and were delicious. Covid arrangements were well organised. Will look forward to return in the future. Thank you.

The Toad had a great atmosphere and the decor was very nice. Service was pleasant and with a smile. Order taken promptly and drinks arrived quickly. The menu was reasonable however the vegetarian options were limited. The food when arrived was excellent with good portion...size. The chips were especially tasty. Puddings were also very good. Service could have been a little quicker but all staff were very helpful. Overal a good meal.More
