Friendly Reunion

Our seating preference was gladly honored as we chose to dine indoors although the outdoor seating actually has a better atmosphere. My friend had that evening's special which was the Aha Tuna. So glad she gave me a bite because it was delicious! I ordered the Peach-Mustard BBQ Glazed Salmon which was outstanding along with the grits. The only low mark was the fried green tomatoes which were rather flavorless that night, but other than that, we really enjoyed our meal and had great service. Not your standard fare but a good burger is always available. Look forward to our next trip!

Fantastic Atmosphere and Great Food

We had never been to Columbia South Carolina and we flew in from California. Followed restaurant recommendations from Instagram accounts. We made a reservation for Valentines Day. Our waitress was lovely and when we asked what Pimento Cheese is, she smiled behind her mask and said, "You're not from around here, are you?" Then the owner?manager? came to our table and said, "so, I hear this is your first time?" and brought us a taste of collard greens (we've never had it) and the pimento cheese. Our food was great and the atmosphere was FRIENDLY. I would go back for sure and recommend to everyone.

Had dinner at Mr Friendlys last night, august 19. Over the years, I cannot begin to estimate how many times I have eaten there, with family, friends, clients etc. i used to recommend it to my clients who came from out of town and they would give me a funny look when I told them the name but they would always call to thank me after the dinner. it has always been consistently fabulous and it rang the bell again last night. Their service was impeccable (Lawton) and the entire staff (and Ricky) bent over backwards to do everything possible to make the evening great. The bar was over the top, with a very friendly and accommodating bartender. The food (get the fried oyster appetizer and the fresh off the boat halibut) was top notch. So much better than many of the much higher priced restaurants. It goes without saying that they are very COVID conscious and safe. I wish we could show them how much we appreciate all their hard work and great results over many years. I still eat there for most of my restaurant outings and hope you will, too.

We had a great experience at Mr Friendly's. Fun vibe, great art for sale on the walls,...and was surprised to see how busy it was on a Tuesday night. Service was very friendly, accommodating without being overbearing. Delicious shrimp appetizer as a starter, accompanied by a bottle of wine at half price (Mon/Tues special). Salmon and a steak for dinner, great dessert (apple spring rolls...mmm). We were impressed by the beet salad at another table, so got one to go. Great food, service and value. Will definitely dine again with Mr. F..

Best Valentines Spot

Got lucky when a spot opened up on Valentine's Day and knew we had to take it. We sat outside as the restaurant was very busy, however the staff was so nice and ensured we were comfortable with the heaters the entire time. We ordered bacon-wrapped steak and shared a crab appetizer, both of which were so delicious. Overall, it was a 10/10 experience, and we'll be coming back soon!

Another great visit

My wife and I returned for another visit to one of our favorite restaurants in Columbia. We had a bottle of Frank Family Chardonnay and an app of their great fried oysters. My wife had the soft shell crab special which she said was the best she had ever had. I had thyme infused mahi which was great, with grits. Our server, Claire, was excellent. We enjoyed our visit and look forward to returning. This restaurant continues to deserve its high rating.

A Tremendous Birthday Celebration!

I surprised my visiting lady friend Vicki with a HAPPY BIRTHDAY dinner at one of my favorite Columbia, SC restaurants. Our service was very good and the food was excellent. Vicki had the Shrimp & Grits while I ordered the Peach Mustard BBQ Glazed Salmon, both dishes included the most flavorful grits this Alabama man has ever tasted. We had the Key Lime Pie for dessert, it was one of the very best ever slices of my favorite type pie. Mr. Friendly’s is a restaurant that one can go home to, thanks.

Great Soft Shell Crab

Great Lunch/Dinner at one of my favorite restaurants! I converted a single soft shell crab into ciabatta soft shell crab poboy and loved it. What more could you ask for while eating outside, with the pups, and a gentle 82° breeze blowing through my hair or lack there of. The crab was cooked perfectly and the ciabatta bread made a great poboy. FLASH*** Mr Friendly’s said they were going to start back lunch service on April 12th. I’ll be back!!!

We wanted a restaurant that had more than just sandwiches. Thankfully the specials of the day were just right. We had the chicken pot pie and pulled pork quesadilla along with a carrot bisque soup and salads - all were tasty! Before we left we decided to have dessert to celebrate a special occasion and the raspberry donut crumble cheesecake was perfect! Our server was the nicest young lady and regularly checked how things were for us.

Fantastic Soft Shell Crab PoBoys!

Whoopee!!! I had my first soft shell crab poboy this year at Mr Friendly’s and it knocked my socks off. I also had their wild mushroom soup which was the absolute best mushroom soup that I’ve ever had!!!! On my poboy, I had to shred their leaf of lettuce as shredding enhances the flavor of the poboy much more than a single leaf. My Bride also loved her meal and got one their great desserts. I got my usual one bite and loved the raspberry flavor. This is one of favorite places for lunch. Danny Hood I would have enjoyed this with you and your bride.

Awesome Experience

This was our first visit and it will not be our last. May be a little tricky to find. Whil it is on Green St. we did not see any signage on the road. It is in the old Claussen's building. They off free valet parking, though we did tip the valet attendent. Reservations are not required but I highly recommend as it does get busy. Service was top notch and the food was excellent. We stuck with the standard menu since this was our first visit. The specials looked awesome and were not priced much different than the standard menu. Fried Oysters for a start starter, Fried Cat Fish, Schrimp and Grits, all outstanding.

So glad we tried Mr. Friendly’s

Visiting from out of town and on a local recommendation we went for an early dinner. So glad we did. Service was good. Very friendly atmosphere. The food was delicious and ample portions. Husband tried the sweet potato bisque and said it was delicious. We both had the fall harvest salad and we both agreed it was one of the best we had ever had. The dressing and persimmons were so flavorful. Loved the herb butter with the hit and crusty bread. The buttermilk fried chicken was so light and crispy. I didn’t want the collards so there was no problem in substituting the sautéed veggies instead. Not a fan of gravy so got it on the side, but didn’t try it. I tried my husbands filet and it was perfectly cooked and so tender. He isn’t usually a big beef eater, but he really enjoyed his dinner.

Overall...the people were friendly and they do offer valet service for parking. The food was good, however the portions were small. My husband literally stopped to get something else to eat after we left. Hence, if portions are not a issue, then great place; otherwise you may want to eat a snack before you go.

Really superb return visit!

My wife and I returned to Mr. Friendly’s for the first time since the pandemic hit in the spring. This restaurant has always been a favorite and we were not disappointed. We used valet parking and sat outside since the weather was great. Covid precautions were evident. We shared a fried oyster app which was as great as ever. We both had the halibut special which was the best I have ever had. It was moist with a shrimp and crabmeat mustard aioli and was sally superb. A bottle of Frank Family Chardonnay complemented our entree’s quite well. Our server , Amanda, and the manager on duty, Jason; were personable and professional. We look forward to returning.

Awesome everything: atmosphere, service, appetizer, drinks, meals, and desert. Our waitress was attentive without pushing and had good recommendations. The fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese had a tasty sauce. Our steaks were well prepared, tender and tasty, with good sides. Lastly, the key lime pie was a great ending. We will be back.
