While on a drive down the Oregon Coast, my wife and I stopped in Seaside for a two night stay. Since we do lot have the opportunity for fresh seafood where we live, we asked around the town about the best place for Seafood. Norma's was mentioned repeatedly, so we gave it a try. We were warmly greeted when we arrived and immediately seated, even though the restaurant seating was reduced to 50% due to COVID 19. Our server mentioned that the restaurant was famous for its clam chowder (we have since learned that many restaurants along the coast claim to have the best clam chowder). I do not like clam chowder, but since it is "famous" I went ahead and ordered a cup. My wife ordered a bowl, as that is all she wanted for dinner. (She loves clam chowder.) The chowder was ok, except for the clams...lol. My wife assured me it was very good chowder. For my dinner, I ordered sauteed halibut and rice pilaf. My dinner was cooked perfectly and very good. The prices were typical for this type of restaurant. Not cheap, but not terribly expensive. I thought it was especially reasonable for halibut. Service was fast and good. We were very happy to see the staff implementing COVID safety rules.

I got the the beer battered albacore fish and chips and it was one of the best fish and chips I’ve ever eaten. The fish was meaty and the batter was crispy and had a great flavor. This is the only place In seaside you can order this type of fish and chips. The tarter sauce was homemade and delicious. They give you 4 good size pieces for $14. Everyone liked their food. I wanted to give 5 stars but the service was really bad. We were the only ones in the restaurant and the sever never checked on us and we needed soda refills and more condiments and she never came back until we were finished with our meals. We were eating for a good 25 minutes so I’m not sure why she ignored us. I would get it if it was a full restaurant and she was busy but it wasn’t. But other then that the food was great.

This restaurant is located one block off the main street . The atmosphere strives for Cape Cod, New England vibes . It was very busy when I where because of the convention crowd from the convention center nearby. My party ordered various seafood entrees such as fish and chips, seafood pasta and shrimp, one person ordered chicken. We all ordered the clam chowder for starters which had been billed the best in town. The food did not taste like fresh seafood like we expect on the coast more like frozen and then prepared. Thisvwas just an average dining experience including atmosphere, food and service.

I have been coming to Seaside since I was a small child. Norma’s seafood and steak has always been a staple during vacations. We had just gotten married on 10/2 and had headed to seaside for our honeymoon. I assured my partner that Normas has always been great. When we arrived there was an overwhelming ammonia/fish smell. The front of house was clean for the most part so ignored the smell, chalking it up to being so close to the ocean. The waitress who took our drink order was very dirty, she sat on the table next to us and folded her arms while taking our order. Noting that she wasn’t writing it down, I wasn’t surprised when she repeated our order for our drinks back wrong twice. We ordered the garlic cheese bread which ended up being white bread toasted with burnt cheese on top. We asked her what the market value on lobster was and she told us $35.00 for the lobster meal which came with a baked potato. My partner ordered the lobster and I had a top sirloin. Our food came and the lobster was still frozen. It was rock hard and frosty in the center. It was plated in a pool of murky water that it had been boiled in. The baked potato was of a large lemon and was floating in the water as well. When we were served my partner let the waitress know that she didn’t have silverware and the waitress said that she would grab that right away. 20 minutes went by with no silverware. During that time several other waitstaff made eye contact and refused to be waived over to help. The fork arrived and we attempted to eat our yucky food. When the check arrived the lobster which was supposed to be $35.00 was $50.00. Our entire terrible experience cost $95.00. We tried to track down a manager or senior staff member but had no such luck. We ended up ordering pizza to our motel. DO NOT RISK your fun-filled vacation meals at Norma’s. I wish I could have given it a zero star.

I ordered a rib eye steak medium rare and was served one well done. I asked the server for a medium rare steak and returned it. I waited and waited, the server returned my potato cold and I ate that when everyone else was eating. When the second steak arrived it was also well done, VERY thin, and I could not cut it with a knife. I sent that one back. When a got the bill I was charged for the steak. I asked for the manager. She was very rude and loud, she told me they had to cook two steaks and I must pay. I told her I would pay for the side salad and potato that I ate. Finally she deducted $15 from the bill. I still had to pay $17. She embarrassed and upset me. As I was leaving I spoke to a man who said he was the owner. I told him the situation about the rude manager and he said “Have A Good Day” and dismissed me. I was more upset about the rude employees than about the money. Norma needs to hire better employees. (Except the server she was wonderful)

Listed on the menu were all these things (Chicken, Shrimp) you can add to a Caesar Salad. When my wife asked about adding crab, we were given an unnegotiable no. Upon further inquiry, all the salads are pre-made and this would cause significant issues. We then departed

There was just nothing right about our trip here. While everywhere in Seaside was busy that night, this one told us that they only had a 15 minute wait. With a 3 year old, that seemed reasonable. After many parties seated ahead of us, we finally sat down an hour later! We decided to order an appetizer of the garlic bread to fend off the toddler and a shrimp salad for the wife. The garlic bread looked like it was just Wonder bread with a little butter and garlic salt on top with a slice of cheese. It was horrible. The salad my wife said was bearable. For entrees we got Mac n’ Cheese for the kid, a steak for me (I mean, it’s in their name), and shrimp scampi for my wife. Not a good thing to say about any of it. And it took forever to get it. Honestly, the best part of the meal was the Kraft Mac n’Cheese and the cold shrimp on the salad

My wife and I visited Norma”s diner recently and left shocked and very disappointed. We were provided with clear plastic containers to drink water from. One was cracked and both had multiple scratches from years of use probably. We both were served with the chowder which was ok. My wife ordered the fish cakes. They were served with a dry baked potato and a slice of bread toasted and buttered with garlic butter. I ordered chicken which was served with a dry baked potatoes and a slice of bread with a garlic butter spread also. The menu indicated onions and mushrooms were included but neither were served with my dish. The food was dry in texture and lacked any real taste. The shock was the bill at $ 30.00 for the fish cakes and $ 18.00 for the chicken “ meal “ Total $ 48.00 for a sub standard diner experience ! This is the dearest fast food diner in the west -or East for that matter. Choose wisely and avoid disappointment at this seaside diner.

Their clam chowder is truly excellent, especially if you pay the extra $2 and get the oregon bay shrimp added. We would recommend and will return for the chowder. We came here twice during our stay. The customer service during lunch was fast and attentive, during dinner it got a little hectic and there were long wait times for beverage refills, etc. The dinner was good, however the clam strip appetizer was disappointing as while the strips looked substantial it was primarily breading with very little clam inside. The chowder is the reason to come here, and the service was better at lunch, so will return specifically for soup and garlic bread and the dungeness crab leg hot appetizer, which was delicious.

We went here for dinner based upon some other reviews, but we're cautious because a lot of restaurants this close to the beach can be pretty mediocre. Well we are happy to recommend Norma's! The halibut fish and chips were excellent, as were the crab cakes. Others in our party had the cod fish and chips and really enjoyed them. The interior is not trendy, if that's what you're looking for, but the service was great, staff were friendly and it's a good place for a family. One thing that really impressed me is that they clearly indicated where the seafood was sourced from.

Went to Norma's after hearing multiple glowing reviews. I don't think those people have actually ever eaten food or were paid for their testimony because what we received was quite literally the worst food I've ever been served. The hamburgers were still frozen inside. The fish and chips were so greasy. It looked burnt but was somehow undercooked. The quality of this food was beyond inedible; it defied the laws of physics. Do yourself and your wallet and your family a favor and avoid Norma's.

I placed an order to go. It was the sautéed shelled Dungeness crab legs which is not cheap. I got back to the hotel which was a block away and they had not closed the crab legs so all the butter had run out into everything else. They also did not include the discount from my resort. No help from the staff. Please avoid takeout orders unless you check them before you leave. Food has always been good there but will never do takeout again.

Very good food. My crab cakes had good flavor, but I was disappointed meat was all shredded--no lumps as the best one have. Cobb salad enormous, full of goodies, clam chowder very good.

My wife's sirloin and lobster was great. Do not order the 32$ rib steak. It's more like a skirt steak, it will be over cooked I know because I ordered it rare and got medium. Then when I said something they took my steak. Said that's just the way it comes and that was that. I asked for it to go and he said too bad... they threw it away. I left $140.00 lighter and still hungry. Never going back. Jose was a great waiter so I tipped him but felt completely ripped off. So disappointing. It was my wife's birthday and now she's also feeling bad.

Part of our beach ritual! This trip service was not great, but then school has started so maybe help is hard to get help. Looked like servers had too many tables assigned and “forgetting” stuff was pretty common. Servers were nice and accommodating, just stretched too thin. Here, just about everything is over battered and over-cooked. Prices are quite high for what you get and not consistent. We had chowder, salmon & halibut fish & chips, blue cheese burgers, salad. My biggest “ every visit” complaint for here is cold French fries ! Again, typical beach food, but they always give you plenty of “salty sauces & dressings”( all made the same) so everything generally tastes the same. I’m usually the burger guy, but now at$13-15, I’m ready to just get my 2 glasses of wine and a “cup” of chowder next year!
