It was Monday on one of those heatwave evenings. We'd had a trying day in hopsital, and our first choice down by the coast, was booked out. I do like the name, but the outside has to be pepped up to compensate for road noise. It's an indication of management control when the paving-edges are pristine, not filled with soil and weeds.
Staff pleasant and efficient.
Without thinking if there was an 'r' in the month, I ordered Mussels from the menu, which arrived sweet and in a delicious creamy sauce. Good bread to mop it up, too.
I suffered a reaction a couple of days later... Were the mussels harvested in an'r' month, frozen, or were they fresh from North France?
I can't be sure, but I've just learnt never to have them outside the 'r'months. Roll on Septemberrr.
One of our number had a Steak Pie and Veg which he ate every bit of.
We should have sat in the courtyard garden area to dine... it looked lovely when i took a peek. By then we'd ordered and had had enough of moving from one area of patient-control to another for that day!.
We're grateful for the Rishi deal, which makes eating out at the beginning of the week a bit less painful.

I went with my parents for a meal on a Saturday night. Service was excellent. My mum is gluten intolerant and the staff were extremely helpful and were able to offer her a wide variety of dishes. The food we had was delicious and portions were very generous. Great staff, lovely atmosphere, tasty food.

We pre booked a 60th birthday meal for 10 people, arrived and a very rude and abrupt and unnecessary defensive woman said "you only booked 8 we cant do it" so we said we would be happy sitting outside to be told "well you will have to pay as you go then" we then had to show emails confirming we had 10. Luckily a young man stepped in to deal with their issue as it should have been dealt with. They did give us a complimentary bottle of wine and we sat outside and were very happy. The roast was really nice and it arrived quickly and was hot.
However the dessert was a totally different story.... We all ordered and were told the dessert of the day was Apple crumble. 2 were ordered. We were then told they only had one so would we like a fruit crumble. The desserts came out in 2s so we all ate at different times. When the apple crumble came out it was cold, very very wet and uncooked. The crumble topping was still raw crumble, the top was still white and had not been put in an oven or grill to brown. We had to send it back. It then came out again cooked in a microwave so it was hot but top was still uncooked.
The fruit crumble was absolutely disgusting it was actually part of a tin of fruit cocktail, glace cherry, pear, peach, pineapple and grape. It was a sloppy wet raw
uncooked slop in a bowl. How you can call a tin of fruit cocktail with raw sugar, butter and flour, totally uncooked a crumble is beyond me. We paid for this.
We just paid the bill and left and will not be returning.
We came here as my husband and I had had a really nice meal there and thought we would give a local pub our business.

Dear Kath,
Myself and my husband both came over to you separately to apologise for the mix up on table numbers, going from an 8 to a 10 via email! We also asked if everything was satisfactory with your meal!
You were given a complimentary bottle of wine for the inconvenience caused to yourselves.
My staff were young girls, not abrupt in any manner towards you. Maybe inexperienced to this sort of mishap, however, we all have to learn at sometimes in our lives.
It may have been more appropriate for you to bring up any issues you may have had, when asked, giving us the opportunity to rectify them at the time.
Instead, you chose to try and trash our business on a social media platform.
Please note kindness doesn't cost anything!
I hope you enjoyed your tin of fruit cocktail from your kitchen cupboard which you chose to photograph onto our site!

Our booked table had been given to someone else so we had to eat in the bar which was not very comfortable for eating. Meals were not as ordered so we were all eating at different times as two meals had to be replaced. The wine was not chilled so had to ask for some ice. Nothing gluten free for starters. We were very disappointed. The only reason we didn't complain was because one of the party had just had a bereavement.

Could I firstly put you right on the table matter.
We do not allocate tables at the time of booking, if tables are requested, we try our best, however, we unfortunately, can not guarantee a specific table will be available. A majority of people sit in our bar area without complaint as we are mainly food led.
With regards to Gluten Free options, we have many items which can be made gluten free, 4 to be exact on our starter section, and at least 6 on our mains.
Communication is the key! If you do not mention to your server when ordering that you require a gluten free option, then he/she will not automatically let you know.
If you had ordered the gluten free option when ordering & had communicated adequately, then your meal would have come out as expected and you & your guests would have all eaten at the same time.
As for your wine not being cold enough? I can only apologise, as all white/Rose wine is kept in a wine fridge at a set temperature.

It was a nice Saturday evening and having walked our three dogs we thought we would stop off for a pint and a bar snack as we walked them home.
I entered the pub and was ignored by what I believe was the landlady .. eventually a nice lad working behind the bar said he would be with me in a second something the landlady could of done a couple of minutes before.
I ordered a couple of drinks and asked if we could have a bar snack if they were not too busy, the very nice barman got a couple of menus .I asked if he could get some water for the dogs and he kindly got them two bowls of
water.
When he brought the second bowl out I asked if we could order, he said unfortunately he had been told we could not order food in the garden as it might rain . We asked if we could eat inside if the dogs were allowed in . He said unfortunately they were fully booked inside and and there were no spare tables . I can only assume there was going to be a stampede as it was 7pm and only one table in the bar was occupied.
I said we would be happy to take our chance eating outside or we would move to the outside area that had three large tables under cover. He repeated he had been told he couldn't take our food order but he would go in and ask again .
that was the last we saw of him so we finnished our drinks and walked the dogs the
2miles home in the dry .
It just seemed we were fobbed off with a pathetic excuse ,wont be rushing

Unfortunately, on Saturday all of our inside tables were fully booked and reserved for customers who had booked between 5.00 & 8.00pm. If you had noticed our bar tables were laid up for dining with reserved signs on!
The reason that we were not doing outside dining on Saturday evening was purely due to the unpredictable weather. If it had rained as it had done on and off all day, we would not have had any where inside to seat you. The only covered outside area is the smoking area which is not always suitable for dining in the evening.
I apologise that your experience with us was a disappointing one as we always endeavor to make our customers feel as comfortable as possible.
We do as a business get extremely busy and with the unpredictable weather feel that sometimes we need to make a decision which we feel is in the best interests of the customer.
We always suggest booking for inside, especially on a Friday or Saturday evening.
I am the owner and can assure you that I never ignore a customer when they enter my business, however, I do have female staff which I can also assure you donot ignore customers when entering. We were busy and sometimes a little patience is needed!

The food was very good- the Sunday roast has fresh vegetables and tasty meat.
The service was great and there is a wide selection of beers.
My Son enjoyed his fish and chips and my sister loved her pud!

I’ve had excellent experience with this establishment in the past. And this time was also just as excellent. The staff, the service, quality of food and indeed the quantity of food presented by the excellent chefs speaks for itself. These places are few and far between. Whenever I stay at the Camping and Caravan Club just next door I know I don’t need to cook. Outstanding! We booked 3 days at 6pm for or evening dinner over Easter and if was all outstanding! Couldn’t do a starter or desert as the mains are huge and we’re getting on a bit! So the belly can’t consume as much! Top job all, well done!

We enjoyed our Sunday lunch. Service was good and staff friendly. However, we noticed that some customers were not wearing masks when moving around the restaurant. Two customers went to the bar without masks , leaning across the bar to discuss their bill. The members of staff present did not remind them to put their masks on. The customers concerned were older and I think they just forgot but as we were sitting close by we felt uncomfortable. During these difficult times we are keen to support local businesses but how the Covid rules are implemented by the establishment is important and in this case disappointing.

I am so glad that I booked this pub when looking for somewhere near Emsworth for Sunday lunch today. There were 5 humans, a dog and a puppy and we could not have been made to feel more welcome. Our Sunday roasts were delivered in good time, and we all agreed that our food was delicious and good value for money. I am a very fussy veggie and I can honestly say that my homemade nut roast was the best I have had for ages; the roasties, veg and Yorkshire pudding, and stuffing were equally gorgeous! We followed up with tasty desserts and hot beverages. All the way through all the staff were cheerful and helpful; the fact that our dog and puppy were made to feel as welcome as we felt, was a very welcome bonus! What an absolute find - a wonderful time was had by us all. Looking forward to going back again already!

We booked here last minute as a party of 5. We had missed the Sunday roast so all had pies which were delicious. We did ask for chips but the waitress forgot to write this down so had mashed potato which was equally as good and much more healthy. The vegetables were perfect. Always a good standard of food and service.

Booked specifically for Sunday roast Sunday afternoon but wasn’t advised it would be highly likely nothing would be left. Compromised the lack of roast potatoes for chunky chips but the meal came with none of the advertised veg. The nut roast was average and our condiments came at the last two mouth fulls of food. Not recommend for Sunday dinner time but I’m sure the lunch time is better. Shame about the lack of communication on that.

Unfortunately, we try to extend our Sunday roasts into the evening and replenish all continually throughout the day.
However, we get extremely busy and can never guarantee a Sunday roast in the evening ( This is normally mentioned to the customer on booking if they request a Roast) . We are fresh food based and there are times, that because of this, we run out of options. This is clearly stated on our menu!

We visited for a family meal today and had a lovely time. We were greeted warmly by the staff when we arrived and they were very attentive to our needs during our meal. We all had Sunday roast which was lovely. I would highly recommend to anyone thinking of visiting this delightful venue.

Found this whilst camping local. Used before a meal and found the staff very accommodating. Booked for a meal and found the food to be very good and good size portions and a good supply of local beers ect. They gluten-free free option was good and staff very aware of the cross contamination issues. Would highly recommend this and booking in advance if possible. 5+*

Went there on my birthday, having been there a few times before. I had the fillet steak and I have not eaten better in this country. The steak was as tasty as a high end steak restaurant in the Americas.
The food is always good here, as it is in the Bulls head, it’s sister pub. I would also highly recommend the Sunday lunch.

A busy evening with the staff working at breakneck speed yet the service was exemplary. Staff were friendly, attentive and quick. We had generous portions and the food was well prepared, cooked and presented. There is a good extensive menu although we did experience some items were sold out but alternatives were plentiful and good. This pub is our local but so pleased that it maintains good standards.
