The location is not one of the best as there is literally nothing interesting to see from the restaurant windows, a very small marina. Parking is easy and well managed and a short walk to the restaurant. The staff is very friendly and polite although it's clear that for them it isn't a profession but just a job. Lacking the basic waiting skills of the trade, understandable but not at the standards required for the setting. Can be improved. The order took 30min to be taken, and another 30min to receive one drink, it was a Sunday lunch, very hot and no air conditioning, had to ask twice for our order to be taken. The menu is small, no gluten-free options indicated unless you ask for it, a couple of vegetarian offers, few fish dishes but some of them really overpriced !! Our meals were decently presented but nothing special at all. One suggestion to the chef and management, change the deep frier oil as the Hack & Chips were literally dark brown and soggy. I really don't know how to classify this place, it is not a pub, not fine dining, not a fish restaurant, and definitely not a gluten-free or veggie-orientated restaurant. Lacks of the basics and it's overpriced. Won't be going back as we left really unsatisfied.

Easy to find and a short stroll from the large car park. The screen upon which you enter your car registration to receive 3 hours free parking is sited up the stairs (there is a lift also) at the entrance to the restaurant which is modern and minimalist, more a bistro, and a choice of indoor and terrace seating. You look out over the marina but nothing seems to actually move so unless you are a yacht enthusiast not that exciting. Accent is naturally on fish and seafood, we enjoyed starters of large prawns and oysters followed by battered hake and mussels. One special, the fish catch of the day. Limited choice of bottled beers and wines by the glass ,plus a few cocktails with more choice of wine bottles. Became quite busy during our lunch, the small kitchen coped well as did generally the pleasant staff. I was hoping to see what the £120 for two seafood platter looked like but no one indulged. Overall I thought good value, there was just a small choice of desserts but these were a little different to standard choice.

I visited with a friend/colleague for a working lunch. She recommended the Fish and Chips and I can honestly say it was the best I’ve ever tasted. The hake was perfectly cooked, flaky and delicious with a crisp and light batter. The chips were ‘home made’ and tasty. I cannot wait to bring family here in the summer, as the setting is lovely. My only regret is that I had no room for cake!

Popped into the Deck, Emsworth after a long walk with my dog last Tuesday for a much needed cup of tea and a slice of cake. The gentleman at the counter found the two of us a table, for which we were grateful as we were unaware of the booking system - my fault. We were given the menu for lunch from a very enthusiastic and friendly waitress. After a short time another waitress approached our table but when I explained we wanted a cup of tea and a slice of cake her smiley greeting changed to one of disdain. The bill was £18 for two cups of tea and two slices of cheesecake. I was expecting to leave my name and telephone number as part of track and trace but this was not in place.

The evening started badly: Apple maps took us to the wrong marina based on the restaurant's name (use the postcode instead), and the staff had no record of our booking despite the reminder they had sent us two days before. Once we were seated and in front of a decent bottle of Grenache white at the wine list's good entry price of £19, it took the staff 45 minutes to even take our food order, and a further 20 mins to deliver it. We did not fancy paying the ridiculous prices for oysters (£18 for six), or shelling out £120 for a nice-looking seafood platter for two, so opted for 'tempura hake' with chips. The fish was delicious and very fresh, but tempura it wasn't: instead of being a thin, pale batter this was thick, dark brown chip shop batter. And, chef, please note that chips should be cooked in clean , very hot oil to make them crisp and pale: ours were bendy, bitter and black from being cooked in lukewarm oil that should have been sent for recycling as marine diesel weeks ago. With one exception the waiting staff were arrogant and made no attempt to apologise for our concerns. Oh, and the soundtrack was over-loud fast rhythm dance music. We will not darken the Deck's doors again

Very friendly people with a limited menu, initially they had run out of mussels and rib eye steaks, but found a steak later. I had the steak and it was passable. They’d run out of Merlot so our bottle became two glasses although I had to query the bill because I’d been charged for a bottle. I asked the waitress for a whisky with my coffee but heard no more of it. The bill was dropped on my table without being requested and the second amended bill was almost thrown by the waitress who earlier had been so nice. Apart from that, I would reiterate they were lovely people but they need to get a bit more organised. I’m afraid that unusually I didn’t leave a tip and we won’t be repeating the experience at the Deck

Every time I visit The Deck, I am blown away by the quality of the food and the attentiveness of the staff. My friend and I visited on a glorious Tuesday afternoon and were served by the lovely Kath, who ensured everything was perfect! Ed made us the best expresso Martinis. Ed has created a beautiful, calm and chilled haven to sit back and relax whilst enjoying delicious food and good wine. The beetroot and halloumi burger were to die for!

Dinner for 3, pushed the boat out with loads of booze, starters, seafood platter for 2 and Hake tempura mains and 3 desserts. Approx £250. Could not fault the food nor the service which was spot on despite a very busy restaurant. Well done to the whole team, we will return.

The Deck is a gem in a charming privately run marina. The staff were helpful and friendly when they called to clarify our online booking and we were well looked after on our visit. The adults had pre-ordered two seafood platters which were beautifully presented and generous. The children enjoyed their burgers and crepes. Thank you for a very good lunch. We will be returning!

I used to live in the area so was keen to revisit The Deck. Beautiful weather for sitting outside and we were greeted warmly by the staff. Starters of goat's cheese tasty, but very small indeed. My companions enjoyed their roasted aubergine main course. I had the tempura cod and chips which was nice enough. We never had our plates collected and in the end had to go in and ask for this to happen and also ask for the dessert menu. My dessert of panacotta was two tiny slivers on a plate consisting mainly of flowers and a few bits of popcorn. Neither of these things added in any way to the dish...in fact, there were flowers scattered on other dishes too, to the point of it being quite irritating. Good food doesn't need fiddly embellishment with petals! The brownie and the apple pie were nice, according to my guests. Cab sauvignon was chilled and a good accompaniment to the fish. The whole experience was a pleasant one overall and the ambience is good, but my advice after seeing the bill, would be to ditch the flowers and popcorn on the plates, improve the portion sizes of the starters and desserts and just tweak the attentiveness of service upwards a little too.

Having shopped in this Marina for many years we had not been to The Deck since its change of ownership some years back and the first change we noticed was that the interior capacity has almost doubled. We were advised, in an earlier phone call, to book a table for lunch, but when we arrived the restaurant was only about ¾ full, and there were walk ins being seated after we arrived so I guess it is just pot luck. Pot luck with the meal to. I chose the tempura hake which was a lovely piece of fish and the tempura batter was crisp and light. Sadly the pea salad was served at fridge temperature – with a hot meal - and the leaves had not been properly drained and dried so the fish sat in a pool of cold water, turning the bottom soggy! Now for the chips. When you make hand cut chips for presentation you discard the weird shaped pieces from the ends. I understand the principle of three times cooking, but I reckon some of the chips had seen the fryer half a dozen times, as most were as solid as a rock, totally uneatable. Of the 18 or so pieces of potato on my plate only about 5 were eatable. The wine list was poor with a very limited choice. Despite living very close to The Deck, I shall not be making it our GO TO destination again.

Came here with friends for brunch and a very mixed bag for very different reasons. The restaurant itself is nice and at a good location. I opted for a big deck. Couldn’t fault the food except the sourdough toast which was way overdone (on 3 out of 4 plates) and then soaked in butter and therefore very difficult to eat. I also had orange juice and at £2.80 was expecting nice and fresh but it was definitely from concentrate. My wife is gluten free and was told they had ran out of bread. She therefore asked what on the little deck was gluten free to the waitress who didn’t seem to know what she meant by this. She was even asked whether she could eat bacon or eggs so my wife had to actually tell her about gluten/ flour/ rye etc. Another waitress came over and asked my wife if she was coeliac (which she is) and then also said “some people are really coeliac.” Just for the record you can’t be really coeliac - you either are, or you’re not. If this is the case just put it on your website/ booking page that perhaps a coeliac cannot be catered for rather than saying “just ask” on your menu as this implies that you can cater for them. It was embarrassing and our friends were flabbergasted. In this day and age, with so many dietary requirements including coeliac, vegetarian and vegan, those in the hospitality industry should be able to know how to respond. Overall the food is very tasty but they don’t and can’t cater for gluten free which is a shame. I would return for a breakfast but my wife would just have a hot chocolate - which looked lovely.

Our first meal out in weeks, and I'm glad it was at The Deck. My partner and I joined my father and his lady friend for a belated celebration of his 91st birthday. Two of us had the Dover Sole (very reasonably priced at £18), and two of us had battered Hake with chips. The Hake was perfectly cooked in a light crispy batter and the chips were perfect, together with the mayonnaise. The accompanying salad of tiny, sweet peas, mint, various herbs and a delicious dressing was fantastic. Michelin starred restaurants eat your heart out - I'd rather eat here any day. Lovely staff too.

I love everything about The Deck, and always have done! The way Ed and his team served the local area during lockdown and how they’ve reopened in a way that makes you feel totally safe, is just testament to what a fab place it is. It was no surprise that I chose The Deck as my first place to eat out since lockdown. I had take away twice during that period (both times delicious and very generous portions, especially the whitebait) but there’s nothing like eating on the deck in the beautiful sunshine with the best view in the village. My friend and I had the best seat in the house and were looked after superbly well by Kath, Sam and Ed himself, who is ever present and very cheery! We checked in at the door and took our seats, and were soon sipping ice cold Prosecco and ordering from the varied menu. I chose the mussels, which were to die for, and my friend had the beetroot and halloumi burger: there was not a scrap left on our plates! Ed then poured us each an espresso martini; the perfect end to a lovely lunch. We will he back, hopefully to experience the private dining on the deck! Keep up the good work you gorgeous people!

We have been eating at The Deck for ages. The food and service are always second to none. They cater to all dietary requirements having gone from meat-eater to pescatarian and then vegetarian. We have eaten here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner which are all incredible. During the lockdown we have been having, almost fortnightly, take-away's delivered by Ed and the guys at The Deck. These have arrived hot, fresh, and well presented every time. The halloumi and roasted beetroot salad is divine, the serving sizes are spot on and the flavours are incredible. Others in my house have had the burger and red snapper which they have said are delicious every time! We were really excited to get back to the restaurant once they opened for breakfast and have booked again for a roast. Could not recommend Ed and all the guys at The Deck more!
