We had an excellent meat at the Corn Exchange in early December 2020. The value was incredible and the food freshly cooked and home produced - none of this instant reheated bought in stuff. The beer was good too. This pub deserves more customers at this time and we were delighted that we met a local person who suggested it to us. We will be coming back. Robert

Pete and Dawn - thank you for a fabulous Sunday lunch takeaway. The roast lamb was beautiful, loads of veges cooked to perfection and it all helped us to complete the Christmas tree decoration with a bit more energy!!! Strange times, but thank you for all you do for the community. Hugely appreciated. C & H

Well what can I say. Our first visit to a pub for lunch in 5 months. Super warm welcome. Strict Covid check in, roaring log fires, hygienic wiped down furniture. We chose to sit outside as the sun was shining and were welcomed with new garden furniture, soft, fleecy, cosy blankets and warm patio heaters. The staff all wearing facial safety masks took our order, the food arrived swiftly piping hot and all homemade. The steak and ale pie was delicious, full of flavour accompanied with a variety of fresh vegetables. Can’t thank the staff enough, such a wonderful experience truly exceptional Thank you xx

THEY ACCEPT AMEX! Booking by telephone was a pleasure and nicely handled. On arrival entrance was by the rear gate, signed in, gelled hands and led to nicely spaced table seating in the garden rear or the main pub. We were served by very pleasant staff, efficiently and politely. The food was well prepared; I had freshly caught fish with mushy peas and chips, my partner had steak and ale pie with chips. The fish was delicious but the mushy peas were very artificial green and tasteless. The pie crust had become sodden with gravy so very gooey. Chips for both of us were soft and lacked crispiness outside. On the whole a good pub grub with no pretentions. Wine by the glass was overpriced and not very nice - stick to beer here.

Lucky to get a table on a Thursday evening. Details provided on entry into lively but safe garden. Excellent atmosphere. They've done well to make the area safe for staff and punters alike. Well happy. Our grub was superb. As I'm a weirdo and wanted pie & chips with salad I was asked how I wanted it set out and how and where I wanted the gravy. Top drawer. Attentive and efficient staff. Really good night.

Stopped off here after a walk around Emsworth for a few drink on a sunny day. There was table service only because of Coronavirus, which worked reasonably well because they had enough staff. We didn’t eat there, but the pizzas served from a food truck parked in the car park looked very good. Nice beer garden and welcome drink in the hot weather.

This pub never disappoints... The friendliest staff in Emsworth - in these crazy times you can be reassured of ‘Covid safety’ standards. The roast dinner was amazing, a roast with all the trimmings and unbelievably tasty potatoes, loads of vegetables and a generous portion of meat. So lucky to have this pub on our doorstep... We look forward to every visit - hope they never change a thing because they have it spot on!

Awesome treat. Well what can I say. Again another delicious roast dinner for 2, delivered on time by the most charming lady whom we know from working there. Piping hot, full of flavour and no less than 5 freshly cooked vegetables accompanied by crispy roast potatoes, parsnips, homemade stuffing , pigs in blankets & lashings of wonderful homemade gravy. Then to top it all off just the best apple crumble and custard. A total feast. We are so lucky to have this little pub in Emsworth and must support and ensure it’s wellbeing and the staff who are just delightful to ensure it stays open Thank you Pete, Dawn and crew from the coalie xxx

We booked a table during the Government’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme. It was our first meal out in a long while. It was not a pleasant experience and it was quite disturbing to have the servers outside come very close to customers. None were wearing masks. The tables were not cleaned between customers. The Eat Out discount was incorrectly applied twice with no apology. Disappointing visit as the food was OK.

We were meeting up with friends near Emsworth and found this pub for dinner. We had booked by phone and found our reserved table. The first thing we noticed was the freindly "buzz" in the bar with many locals and 2 open fires going (it was cold outside). A member of the staff came over promptly and took a drink order left the menu which had a wide range of choices, we chose fish, steak and ale pie and lamb shank. The food was fantastic I had the pie which was home made maybe 2" thick absolutely full of meat the other meals were equally as good, and all at a reasonable price. If you are in Emsworth then give it a try, well worth it.

We stopped here for lunch. It is a nice locals pub. The ham eggs and chips were amazing and great value for money. The prawn dish was disappointing and expensive for what you got (5 prawns in garlic with a white roll!) We would revisit again when we come back to Emsworth, but what I would say is we didn't want to hear the staff talking about their private lives to each other and there was some swearing. I think where the staff know a lot of the regulars it probably is normal chit chat, but as we are out of area this wasn't stuff we wanted to hear, especially swear words.

We visited this pub for a Sunday roast and it was absolutely incredible. Roaring fires, fresh flowers on the tables together with candles and a cosy corner. Fleece blankets were offered if we wanted to sit outside, together with outside garden heaters. It was just wonderful, our meal was served piping hot with such a fabulous selection of 6 fresh vegetables. Crispy roast potatoes and hot plates, it was truly wonderful. I chose the steak and ale pie cooked in light pastry, it’s the best pie I’ve ever eaten. The menu is varied and the pub caters for everyone. Dogs are welcome, and the staff greet you with a welcoming smile and are so incredibly obliging. Best pub in Emsworth. A must to visit. Thank you for a delicious feast and lovely experience.

Went for lunch today and we were really pleased with the service. The staff are lovely and helpful. The food was really first class we had the steak and ale pie which was extremely generous portion with lovely fresh and hot vegetables. We had sauvignon blanc wine which was also delicious. Only problem we missed our pudding because the chef had left. Definitely be back.

Lovely garden and seats inside, it’s a small pub that is doing everything in its power to keep everyone safe during the current times, pubs are a very different place at the moment and we all long for the old days but keeping everyone safe has to be the priority at the moment. Food was excellent all freshly cooked and waiting time as shown at the gate. All table service both inside and out with very friendly staff. Sign states regulars only on Friday and Saturday after 3pm but I was made more than welcome even know they were full and there was a short wait, patience is key in the current climate

Went for family meal out. Food was good-not huge range but we all had empty plates. They forgot something for one of the meals but brought it out later and generally the service was great- all really friendly. Pretty small and a bit cosy- nice feeling though would go back again for sure.
