Popped in on the off chance for a meal as I was dining solo I didn't book , the restaurant was full but I was squeezed in kindly by the owner who was very welcoming. I had a fantastic lunch from the special board which was executed to a very high standard and was very reasonable for this quality of produce . I highly recommend this pub if you like traditional cozy pub atmosphere and great food and drink but it's worth booking in advance . Thankyou for looking after me and see you soon .

…Thank goodness we are local, giving us the choice of being able to return time and time again.
We are always greeted with such a warm welcome and the pub itself has a great atmosphere.
The food is exceptional and although we are working are way through the menu to try different dishes we have to have a regular fix of the kedgeree, so tasty!
The ‘small plates’ are such a great idea, particularly if there is a group dining - gives you the chance to share/try different options, a sort of tapas style.
Highly recommend, one of are absolute favourites in Emsworth.

The pub is run by Cecile and Simon. Simon is the head chef. We have been several times now and have always been made very welcome by all the staff. The beer is well kept, nice wine list which has obviously been carefully chosen. The food is, in our opinion, outstanding. Today we shared moule mariniere as a starter. My wife had Dover sole , both these fish dishes were cooked and seasoned to perfection. I had home made steak and ox kidney pie. Fantastic pastry and filling, proper mash and gravy . And then we couldn’t resist puds. Yummy treacle tart with quality ice cream and a fruit crumble with clotted cream. Spent the afternoon dozing under a oak tree. Very content.

Went with 3 other family members. Ordered food. 3 large portions and 1 small. When meals came out the small meal was same size as large and then lady said sorry no stuffing!!! Never thought to tell us before. Yorkshire puddings burnt, chicken dry, very small portion of veg which consisted of a handful of carrots, a slither of cabbage, 2 tiny parsnips and 2 potatoes ( supposed to be roasts ) but potatoes not cooked. Pork was over cooked and like an old boot. Beef was also very chewy. Staff were unconcerned. Large price difference between the small and large, but only difference appeared to be one extra slice of meat and some cabbage. Very expensive but not justified. Avoid.

This was probably the worst Sunday lunch experience ever. I went here with my son and grandson and probably waited 10 minutes to just find out if they had a table for us. That should have been a warning sign as it didn't look very busy. We were then shown upstairs by a friendly waitress to our table, we then waited another 15 minutes before she came to ask if we wanted drinks, we told her we also wanted to order food at the same time as we had a 2 year old with us. There were 2 other tables with people at them.
The drinks arrived and then a while later the food arrived. I couldn't quite believe what was put in front of me, it was nothing more than a pasta bowl with some obviously frozen veg that looked terribly soggy, this had strangely been arranged around 3 miniscule Yorkshire puddings that were the size of table spoon, on these were bits of potato that were hardly recognisable as roast potatoes and my son said "perhaps they bring the potatoes separately" I pointed out that the potatoes were already on the plate. The beef looked overcooked and was completely stone cold. The child's roast for my grandson at £10 was so dreadful that we couldn't even cut through the chicken as it was so tough. The plates were cold and so was all the food, even if the food had been hot it looked so disgusting I wouldn't have wanted to eat it. As gravy had come in individual pots, i dipped my finger in to see if that was even hot and it was only tepid, it tasted so strange and nothing like gravy. As my son continued to try cutting his child's meat, I told him I couldn't possibly eat this as it was inedible to which he then agreed. The people on the next table overheard us and said theirs was also disgusting with frozen broccoli almost a puree.
I've had better food in hospital and school dinners. I can't imagine who was in the kitchen but it certainly couldn't have been a chef. Whoever has provided positive reviews recently can only be friends of the people running this pub now as nobody in their right mind could find anything positive about the food, it truly was disgusting. We told the waitress we were leaving as the food was cold and disgusting, she asked us to pay for the drinks that we hadn't drunk, we had ordered wine to drink with our meal. It really was a terrible experience. The couple who ran this before the last people were great, the food was exceptional and so was the service, my son said she was French. We will not be stepping foot in The Sussex Brewery again. £17 for a roast that even the dog would have turned his nose up at. A real shame as my son lives just round the corner.

We went here on Friday 1st Dec for a friend's 50th birthday meal.
Somewhile after being seated, someone from our group had to go downstairs to order our drinks.
A waitress bought them up, complaining she had been taken off the bar, to now serve tables.
After what felt like forever, she eventually took our order for food.
After about 40 mins, she asked if we were waiting for dessert, to which we replied we were still waiting for our mains.
When the mains eventually came, the plates and food were cold and very obviously was not freshly cooked, but frozen and inedible.
Parts of my husbands meal was not even cooked!
We asked for the bill, stating we would pay for our drinks, but not the food, which we hadn't touched.
The waitress bought her manager up, who offered a 10% discount, which we declined, stating that not only had a 50th birthday meal had been ruined, but we were all hungry and it was too late to get food anywhere else!
We refused to pay for the food, but left money for the drinks we had.
The manager stated that he has been in this business for 35 years, but he didn't appear to have any conception of the fact that a 50th birthday celebration had been ruined and the food that was served to us was inedible!

My husband needed to arrange a lunch before the scattering of his father's ashes at sea. We choose this pub as it was close to the place we needed to go, had a function room for our guests and the food and price was right for 20+ people. After emailing and speaking on the phone with John, the manager, a booking was arranged and menus set for our booking. We had a few issues with people dropping out at the last minute, but that wasn't a problem for John and his team, who were very understanding. Once we arrived at the venue, we received a warm and friendly welcome, John was very engaging and willing to help with any requirements we had. The food was tasty, delicious, hot and was good sized portions, so much so, I couldn't eat all my food. All round we had a fantastic experience at the pub and we felt very welcome and looked after. We would definitely recommend The Sussex Brewery to others who need a function room for an event or just to chill out.

The whole experience was just so poor. The service was beyond slow. We had to keep going downstairs to the bar to order drinks. Once we ordered we waited over an hour for 2 soups 3 small prawn cocktails and 1 pate. The cream of vegetable soup was exactly like Bachelors cup of soup and only luke warm. Eventually the waitress cleared our starters away we then had another hour wait she came back and asked if we were ready for our desserts. When we said we are still waiting for our mains she disappeared 20 minutes later 7 cold plates of food arrived with separate cold gravy. Some of it was still frozen!! By this time we just gave up. Asked to speak to the manager who didn’t accept any responsibility said they were short staffed and busy. He also said we were rude to the waitress which we weren’t. The other table upstairs had a similar experience. The dining room wasn’t busy. Such a shame we will go back for a drink as the bar downstairs is lovely but never again for food. It was too late to go anywhere for a meal . We ended up going to another local pub and had packets of crisps instead. Was a 50th birthday we won’t ever forget!

We met friends from Australia here, who particularly wanted to try the sausages on the menu. Thhey weren't disappointed with the choices on offer, one eof our party opted for a fish dish, which they were very happy about. This is a quaint and traditional English pub at its best.

We dropped into the Sussex Brewery and were surprised to learn there was a new owner. It wasn't long before our surprise turned to delight. The lady behind the bar, daughter of the chief, was charming and introduced us to the new menu which included a number of Italian dishes. The food was excellent .
We will certainly be back and will be recommending the Sussex Brewery to our friends.

We went for the first time to eat out to help out & were impressed with the service and the food. The dressed crab was great and their infamous sausages didn’t disappoint. The macaroni cheese was disappointing, the goats cheese on top was over powering but overall we were very happy and would recommend a visit- especially for sausage lovers!

Sunday lunch. Anyone wanting an outside sunny seat with fabulous rose and gin and tonic please visit then go inside for a traditional warm cosy pub. The open fire is ready to burn in the winter. The ambiance is a traditional county pub. The food combines a classic roast which was so tasty an Italian twist representing the friendly charming funny Italian new owners. Can’t wait to explore more of your tasty dishes 👏

We were so disappointed, having loved the Sussex Brewery when we'd visited several times years before. This couldn't have been further from past experience. For six of us, including two children, we waited almost three hours for a two course meal. Two of us gave up on desert and left. The waitress was aggressive and not at all helpful. We even asked for the desert to be brought out as soon as we received the mains and in the end walked away without it. We were wedged against a wall to accommodate a party who turned up two and a half hours into our meal, rather than ask the new party to move their table as the table next to them was empty. The sausage was burnt and the stuffing still frozen when it came. There was no children's menu. The cheesy chips that we could order for the kids was congealed and unappealing. The waitress kept making excuses and was outside smoking at one point at least 30 mins after we'd asked for the deserts. We won't bother coming again.

This place was recommended to us and as we were staying in the area we decided to visit. This was early evening on a Friday and it was very quiet. We were asked to wait on the doorstep by two very authoritative members of staff who finally took a load of details. We were then kept waiting while they “found us a table” in their courtyard. Needless to say most of the tables were unoccupied.
Drinks were on the expensive side and, although we intended to book an evening table during our stay, needless to say we changed our mind. We are both in our sixties, are aware of the pandemic, fully vaccinated and don’t expect to be treated this way.
Went to two other establishments in Emsworth during the evening are were treated very differently.

Hi there, apologies if you felt we were being overly thorough. You came behind another customer and you were standing very close to him whilst my colleague was checking him in, as she was following the covid procedures . She had already asked you to step back and wait until she had checked in the gentleman in front of you. We have no way of knowing who is vaccinated, and who isn’t I’m afraid. Our policies are strictly following the legal requirements we have to , enabling our business to stay open. I am aware that not everyone is as thorough as we are, but I guess it’s up to each business owner to allow flexibility in the restrictions as they please. Some of my staff have not been offered a vaccine yet, because of their age group. Being at the back of the queue, they are patiently waiting for their turn and continuing to follow the covid restrictions procedures at their place of work, in order to protect each member of the public coming in the premises. Not all tables were busy but some were reserved within the hour of your arrival, hence why we checked and ensured there was a safe space for you to sit and enjoy your drink without being rushed. I hope your beer tasted good, and I’m glad you found plenty more fine establishments in Emsworth to enjoy the evening.

Our first pub evening since Lockdown............all arrangements appropriate to all Government regs, which meant 4 of us were sitting on a table which could have accommodated perhaps 12 people. Fortunately (for us if not the publican) we were the only people in the restaurant area so were able to talk without really shouting.
Food, drink and service were very good - basically "traditional" pub fare. My Kedgeree was excellent and the fish and chips looked really good too.
