About
Two Whales is a small, independent coffee shop and restaurant overlooking Robin Hood Bay in the small township of Port Rexton on the Bonavista Peninsula. This was our 16th season in business and our reputation grows every year. According to many of our customers we serve the best espresso coffees on the island . We serve a range of premium teas and soft drinks including our special homemade organic lemonade. Part of our philosophy is that we do not serve anything that we will not eat or drink ourselves. We serve delicious, healthy vegetarian food and yummy cakes. We use as much organic and/or locally sourced ingredients as we can, make and bake just about everything ourselves in our own kitchen and take great care in what we do. We are closed for the winter period and look forward to serving you in the Spring.

While in St. John's, we talked to a server at the Mallard Cottage in Quidi Vidi. She asked us about our itinerary while in Newfoundland, and she suggested we go to the Two Whales coffee shop in Port Rexton after hiking the Skerwink Trail. After hiking this awesome trail, my husband and I stopped for a light lunch: soup, sandwich, and homemade lemonade! Delicious and refreshing. And a partdige berry vegan treat! You could also buy locally grown organic squash by donation - proceeds to the local food bank. Inspiring visit to this wonderful town.

During a week long stay in Port Rexton, we stopped by the Two Whales many times, for coffee and a baked goodie, or lunch. Food quality was high, great coffee, cute place. Loved the vegetarian food, bought the t-shirt and the cookbook!

We weren't expecting to find a vegetarian lunch and coffee place in Port Rexton, so when we saw Two Whales we knew we had to try it. We arrived for a late lunch after a morning of hiking, and the meal we got was absolutely perfect - a light tasty sandwich and cold drinks. The desserts we tried were lovely as well. Would recommed.

I wanted to like this place, but I just don't. Service was not good at all, the staff all seemed completely uninterested, seemed like they were annoyed they had to work (besides the owner who was very nice). I had an ice coffee and a piece of cake, the cake was pretty good, but the coffee tasted like it had been cut in half with water, it barely had any taste at all. Also the inside area is absolutely infested with flies, so that's nice. Maybe it was an off day or something but I seriously cannot recommend going here.

I guess I didn’t read the reviews closely enough to know this is a vegetarian restaurant. I cook and eat vegetarian all the time, so I have nothing against vegetarian fare. But none of the paninis really appealed to me. Spicy black bean or curried lentil pate? Partridgeberry, pickle and spinach? Ick. We shared the soup, which was a curry sweet potato the day we were there. It came with a piece of cheese soda bread. The soup was okay, but I started thinking about all the great vegetarian soups that I make—navy bean, tomato bisque, butternut squash, corn chowder, broccoli cheddar, split pea, baked potato, pasta fagioli—curry sweet potato isn’t at the top of my list. We did buy a carrot cake pop that we ate later that evening and it was good enough that I wished I had bought two, or three.

We visited a month ago for coffee and cake and were shocked at the lack of atmosphere and customer service (being in the service and tourism industry ourselves it really stood out to us) We decided to return to give it another try (and to support local) Unfortunately exactly the same thing happened. The room was uncomfortably silent and lacked atmosphere and no welcome was given. When we walked up to the counter to order, the staff member was indifferent and not friendly at all. My older father was confused that the coffee shop is vegetarian. He was asking the girl about the options and trying to order a sandwich with meat! We all looked at the staff member to explain and maybe give an alternative option he may enjoy. Maybe a “meaty” type sandwich with mushrooms. But she just stood there and offered no help or explanation at all. The sandwich and were excellent but we were left feeling disappointed for the second time. We will return for the great food!

Great little place to get a caffeine fix and a treat. It’s obvious the owners take great pride of offering quality ingredients. They have a beautiful garden out back for fresh ingredients. Lovely beer/coffee garden out front surrounded by wild rose bushes. Roadside library to borrow a book to enjoy. Brownies are delish! Lots of Vegan/Organic/GF options on menu. Small selection of NL treats/crafts/coffee/merch. Gorgeous place. Doesn’t open until 10 though so not for the early riser to depend on ;). But great for a late morning/afternoon pick me up.

Lovely café which serves delicious vegetarian soups, sandwiches, desserts and beverages. They also have a small gift shop. Seating inside and out is provided. A nice lunch spot after hiking the Skerwink Trail.

Great stop for breakfast and lattes. Went two mornings in a row. Highly recommend the Mattina. Excellent taste and good protein too. Don’t miss the lattes either. A rare treat on the road in Newfoundland. Fine view of Port Rexton and the sea if no fog. Wonderfully friendly staff, like almost everywhere here.

Found this charming spot right off the highway. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The homemade bagels were fantastic as was the breakfast burrito. The brew a fabulous cup of coffee and make a great London fog. Be sure to partake of their home made desserts. Also check out the art and small gift shop featuring local artisans.

30 mins for a breakfast sandwich, which was then given to the customer after me, I assume, by mistake. The coffee was good can’t say anything about the food because I wanted to stop aging in place and left.

This upscale cafe was a lovely stop after Finishing the Skerwink Trail. Iced coffee and London Fog were top-notch and the brownies were a real treat.

Lovely spot! Friendly, helpful staff, very fine coffee, and the WORLD'S BEST CARROT CAKE. The vegetarian panini's have baffling names. I had the "Naughty Nanny", and it was delicious.
