Captain Ratty's is located in historic downtown New Bern, within easy walking distance of the waterfront. It has great filet mignon and ribeye steaks, as well as wonderful swordfish. The salads are fresh and delicious, and the garlic mashed potatoes (which are really garlic red...potatoes) and sweet potato fries are to die for. Finally, you have to chow down on the cheddar cheese biscuits, very tasty! This is our "go-to" restaurant in New Bern, and comes highly recommended.More

I was in town for an interview, and came here for dinner the night before. The Warrior Burger was delicious and the beer selection was nice as well. I ended up getting the job so I’ll definitely return to try other menu options.

I would have rated this place higher based on my meal but my wife’s was just OK. I had the fried shrimp dinner and it was very good and more than I could eat; I counted 15 large fried shrimp! The coleslaw was very good...as well. My wife order the crab cakes and as I said, they were just OK. That said, we’d come back.More

Enjoyed the food so much in all the anticipation I forgot to take a picture of my food. I ordered the crab cakes and when I say crabcakes is exactly that and not all that breaded imitation crab you get at other restaurants. My hubby...enjoyed his rib eye and it was done to perfection. I love the area where it is located. 2 hours away from Raleigh. Perfect getaway for a pleasant day trip.More

Stopped in for lunch today around 11:45 and we were sadly disappointed. It wasn’t busy. I ordered a Cobb salad. We waited quite a while and finally my salad came out and the waiter said they were out of blue cheese so he substituted. Truthfully...it’s one of the most important ingredients and I would have ordered something else had I known. I didn’t want to wait even longer. In addition there were no sliced eggs on it. Very disappointing. On the other hand my husband’s burger was cooked appropriately and was good. Not sure we’ll go back.More

We stopped for an early dinner. Waited 10 minutes for our tea. Place was not crowded. Probably waited about 20 minutes for our food. Husband had fish and chips and I had shrimp and grits. Both were delicious and worth the wait. Most dishes are...between $15-25. We will be back.More

We are vacationing in New Bern and we’re in search of a restaurant with outside seating for lunch. We spotted Captain Ratty’s, which was quite busy. Had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. Service was good, especially since they were swamped. I had...the tacos with their fish of the day, mahi-mahi, and my husband had the quesadilla with shrimp. Both were quite good. We ended up returning another day for lunch. This time we split their club sandwich, which was definitely big enough for two.More

I am sorry to say I am concerned after dining at Ratty’s. Of 12 employees we saw only 2 that were wearing a mask, or in a proper manner. I’m not exactly sure the protection a mask provides but after traveling down to NB from...the New York area and visiting many restaurants at home and on our travels I have never seen such a blatant disregard of a governors mask mandate. We watched another patron put her mask on each time the server approached and lean back. The server seemed unaware. My concern is if the staff doesn’t feel the need to follow state protocols with regard to masks what other sanitary issues are ignored. Was the manager off, or does the ownership not feel this is necessary? As for the food, good enough, but I left with a stomach ache.More

The service was very good at this restaurant and despite the lackluster food, we tipped the waitress well. A short synopsis: the fish & chips was too greasy and the garlic mashed potatoes we flavorless and a bit watery. The burger was fine but nothing...special and the bun was a bit on the stale side. The clam chowder soup was good; but I'm not raving about it. The garlic buttered shrimp was cold and had to be returned. The size of the shrimp was small and for the over $20 price tag, not worth the money at all. All in all, we won't be returning.More

I felt the couple was completely out of line, nasty and used TripAdvisor to "payback" the restaurant for not giving them a time frame for getting seated.
