Not as good as it used to be

We have been going to Phil's for over 30 years. The food and service has always been wonderful. My 'average' rating is because their menu has increased in price and as others have mentioned they now charge 3.5% for using any kind of credit card. Did not know this as we sat down. The menu prices are the 'cash' price and have increased tremendously. I won't be going back any time soon as this experience left a bad taste in my mouth seeing that convenience fee charge.

Good choice

A good solid choice for a wide variety of food! Menu is huge. Service was very attentive. Food served quickly despite it being a busy Friday night. Enjoyed a club sandwich, onion rings, green salad, and mussels. Would pass on the fried pickles.

Enjoyable dinner experience

Went for dinner Sunday afternoon. Attentive service with pleasant waiter. Both of us had specials. The chicken francais and the sauerbraten were very good. We will definitely return.

Used to be good. Living off their reputation

Been disappointed a few times, but we’ve been going there for so long that we were willing to forgive. This time was the last straw. Met friends at the bar right about 7, our friends had already had ordered apps and had a beer menu. They gave me the beer menu, after a few minutes, a bartender comes over, takes the menu out of my hand and tells me that happy hour is over and walks away without actually asking me if I want something to drink. After sitting for a half hour, we asked the bartender if we could order drinks and some food. 45 minutes later the food came, it was ok, but nothing special. Only once did the bartender come around to ask if we wanted a refill. Considering we were there for 3 1/2 hours, not good. So then I asked for a glass of water, the third bartender I asked was all over it. After about an hour after we had our last drink, we had to ask to close out our tab After telling this story, a few people have told me this is normal service unless you are a regular, which I will never be.

Disappointing Sunday

I always said they had great wings always made to order. I arrived shortly before 1pm football game opening weekend. Crowd was moderate at best. Soup special was lobster Bisque, the soup came out hot one sip i could taste the flour, the dis not cook it out enough. I did not complain but shared the story with the server, Summer. The wings came out burnt, see the pic, they were dry as well. The only reasonable reason, the wings weee cooked ahead for sunday football crowd and then reheated in a hot oven, i would say 450 minimum I did not complain and ate about 4, took the rest home to take a pic and post this review Later i saw a sign that spoke of their Football wing special, $1 each. Ok so they prepped ahead, but i paid full price for crappy wings, $15.95, i did not ask for bar special, nor did i qualify as i sat at a table But save the reheats for beer drinking football watching fans, not the customers that pay full price and are expecting fresh made to order wings like i have eaten here in the past. I don’t live on Long Island anymore, but like to visit places i liked in the past I guess i can ask someone for a good wing place next time i am in town

Not great but expensive

This was not a great experience . My daughters ahi tuna was not ok however they did get her an excellent lobster roll. I was disappointed with my turkey sandwich as the bread looked and tasted like it came from 7-11. Everything seemed like they pulled it out of a can or freezer. I rarely write reviews but wrote this because we paid almost 100 dollars for food out of a freezer or can not freshly made

Treated badly.

We usually enjoy Phil’s. On this occasion, the waiter ruined our entire experience. My sister in laws steak came to the table sliced. She asked about that since it had never before been served that way. The waiter came up to her face (an inch or two away) and said “are you lying to me, I think you sliced it.” He was serious! He even said there were crumbs on her fork! This was outrageous behavior. We were treated poorly. Never before had that happened there. They lost our business!! I don’t recommend this restaurant at all.

Couldn’t believe what occurred

Was at Phil’s the other night and witnessed something that was very avoidable by Phil’s staff. There was a group of people sitting mocking widows of police officers and Jewish people and a couple that was sitting there asked them to stop saying those things and an argument broke out over it. I overheard the couple telling the staff it was very offensive to them and the staff did nothing and when a man sitting with a woman interjected asking them man to stop an argument pursued. That’s not the disturbing part if you can believe. The disturbing part was watching a huge man hit and knock down the woman (the couple) who was pleading for the argument to stop and the man hit the woman and knocked her down right in front of me and only a bystander woman was there to help her while her husband was in the middle of being trampled by this terrible man bashing Jews and laughing at widows of police officers. Beyond disgusted how the establishment handled the situation allowing the offender to leave and leaving the couple there without a worry for her or the man in the scuffle. The woman knocked down had an arm injury and the staff didn’t even call the emt for her and her arm was bruised and she was in tears. Very disappointed in how it all went down when so many of us complained to the bar staff of how offensive the man was being and they just laughed it off and never removed him prior to this avoidable situation. Done with Phil’s and will be sharing this experience with everyone.

Stick to wings and burgers

As others have mentioned the 3.5% surcharge is ridiculous in itself but i did plan ahead and made sure to have cash. Came in for dinner with 3 adults and 2 children. I have been here many times and sat at the bar without incident. Bartenders are always attentive and food is what you would expect, typical pub fare. We sat in the restaurant and we were greeted by our waiter Trevor. Came off as arrogant right away like he wanted no part of being here. Ordered our meals, 2 grill cheese for the kids, 1 sandwich, 1 salad and the big mistake was ordering a steak. When asked how we wanted it prepared clearly stated rare. Steak arrived at the table medium well. When Trevor returned and asked if everything was OK we had informed him that the steak was over cooked and his response was what do you want me to do. REALLY. I said we would like a new one brought out cooked the way it was ordered. When steak came out the 2nd time it was as ordered but Trevor's response . was surprising. He said what do you expect, you are at a bar not a steakhouse. Really disturbing. Maybe waitstaff needs some training on customer relations. IF we return it will be bar only but that is a BIG IF..

Disheartening

Always loved going to Phil’s! After being a LOYAL (Weekly/twice monthly or anywhere in between) patron for nearly 20 years, we’ve had our last meal at Phil’s! So disheartening to learn that we are now charged 3.5% surcharge because we use a charge card. Over the years, We have introduced friends and family to Phil’s, hosted family events at Phil’s, and made sure to tip waitstaff 20+% and acknowledge them at holidays. It’s unfortunate that Evidently loyal patronage was not a factor considered when making their decision. I understand why they want to pass fees on to the customer BUT philosophically those charges are the cost of doing business and retaining a valued clientele. We will now spend our money elsewhere without being charged 3.5%! So disappointed. But like them - we gotta do what we gotta do!

Stealing from credit card users

Been coming here for many years, always enjoyed it. Was here last week and charged me an 3.5% extra for using my credit card. I have always tip my servers 20% but now lowered to 16% to offset surcharge. I hope Phill's new found rip off is supplementing the tips. I know I will never return.

Standard pub fare

Overall, a decent local spot. Wings are good along with the app sampler platter. There is a wide assortment of burgers, though seemed a bit over cooked for my taste. Wait staff was attentive and friendly.

Great place for burger and beer

everyone at phils was amazing from the hostess Angela, to the waitress and servers. awesome burgers and apps. great atmosphere for the game on what seemed like a hundred TVs on every wall. will def be back

Get The Wings

We came here on a recommendation to get great buffalo wings. We got them extra crispy. No other choices as to heat, sauces, etc. They came out as ordered and were excellent. I like them a little spicier so I asked for extra buffalo sauce. Friendly waitress brought that right out. All good. Burger was ok but nothing special. Next time we’ll just get another order of 10 wings and call it a night. Draft beers were cold and good too. We’ll be back!

Happy hour wings

Stopped by for quick beer and ordered wings on a recommendation Great choice! Crispy hot made to order I find that most places cook wings ahead of time, then fry them to order, sometimes they are dry. However they cook precook or whatever they were damn good wings. Along with ice cold tap beer, this place has a great happy hour. Compliments to the chef 👨‍🍳
