It was very crowded here after the 2024 eclipse, but this restaurant managed--our wait was not excessive, both for seating and for our food. Our group very much enjoyed our meals (scallops, ahi, and pasta) but one of us found the fish and chips to be below average. The shrimp appetizer was outstanding. Ambiance was pleasant. We sat inside so the noise level was a little loud, but overall we are happy we ate here. So I will give a 'very good' rating on the basis of three of our meals, and the outstanding service from our server, Emily.

Let me start with the important stuff: the food was mostly good and the servings large enough.
Also, the location is very good (although parking may not be easy). Overall ambience is nice: more cosy than elegant, but no complaint there (other than the barely visible stair steps inside the door, though surprisingly no one tripped during our visit)
I experienced the most inaccurate service in my life that has spanned for couple more decades of restaurant dining than I care to admit. From my order, it was only the appetizer that was missed and my drink needed a reminder, but my boss got the wrong drink and on second attempt his drink was served to the wrong person (and it was a look-alike), then didn’t get his salad at all, and finally got a different steak from what he ordered. The waiter was admittedly busy, but why didn’t he write down the orders is not clear to me.
For the price range and reputation one would expect better, yet to their credit they took off the steak from the bill (hence I decided on 4 stars): if you can laugh off the clumsiness it is not a bad experience.

**Review for Maxfields**
I had an incredible dining experience at Maxfields! From start to finish, the service was impeccable. Our waitress, **Lexi**, was attentive, friendly, and made the evening extra enjoyable. She had great recommendations and always checked in at just the right moments.
The food was outstanding, starting with the **Burrata Salad**. The burrata was creamy and fresh, and paired perfectly with the flavorful greens and accompaniments—truly top-notch. I added the **chicken**, which was incredibly moist and bursting with flavor. Every bite was perfection.
A shoutout to **Robbie**, the bartender, who crafted some excellent drinks. The cocktails were balanced and just what I needed to complement the meal.
Maxfields delivered an exceptional experience from the food to the service—I'll definitely be back!

Met up with my former academic advisor from 30 years ago. Food was average at best and service was rude and disrespectful. Had to wave off multiple flies during our meal and server was adamant about proving she was right after she got my former advisor's order wrong. Customer service is generally lacking in the north country but this one took the cake. I will never dine here again nor will I recommend it to any of my colleagues.

We’ve eaten at Maxfields several times over the years and this trip was very disappointing . We had a late lunch and there was only one other table in the dining room and people were at the bar so one would think that service would be extraordinary. Both of our hamburgs as well as the French fries were over cooked I know it is more upscale but I felt it was over priced.

We visited Maxfields twice. Friday night they were busy and the food reflected a backed up kitchen. Burgers were overcooked, wings were soggy, but the fries were hot crisp and delicious. Saturday afternoon we returned to the bar area for cocktails which was a better experience.

We were celebrating our 50th anniversary and the Cornona virus thwarted ALL our plans. We ended up at home with our daughter and her family for a small but nonetheless happy celebration to mark the occasion. We called Maxfields and ordered appetizers and dinners for 6 people to be delivered at 6:30PM. Maxfields drove up at 6:30 promptly and gave us a perfect dinner! A NY strip steak cooked perfectly, blackened sea bass, 3 salmon dinners, and lobster pasta. Salads and calamari were great. They didn't forget their great rolls and butter, either. It was an excellent dinner and we would like to give Maxfields kudos for their part (they didn't know it was a 50h anniversary celebration). We look forward to another dinner to be delivered one day soon. Thanks to Maxfields!

We ate outdoors on the deck overlooking the river. It was chilly out but a heat lamp directly next to us kept us toasty warm. The swordfish and salmon dishes were well prepared and very tasty. An excellent choice for dinner.

This is a bar & restaurant in a college town, so expect a noisy boisterous atmosphere with an emphasis on the booze and less attention to the quality of the food. Both my French onion soup and hamburger were microwaved and barely edible. The servers were friendly and hardworking, but it was noisy and the Friday night happy hour band was, well, loud and mediocre.

Went with a group of ladies for lunch, much as we’ve done over the decades. I ordered Parmesan chicken salad, and it was nothing short of awesome. Fresh greens, just-right fried Parmesan-crusted chicken, and delish dressing (on the side, as requested). And it arrived pretty quickly, considering how busy it was during reunion weekend.
Will I return to Madstop for reunion next year? Sure. Will I eat at Maxfields? Absolutely.

Overpriced. But would not eat this food at any price.
Awful chicken dish. Slapped together on a plate from a soup kitchen. Tasteless
New York strip was not cooked to order and was a poor quality of meat.
Servers in a hurry to get you to order.
Many items on menu were out. No vegan pasta or halibut. I get it, but there are more fish in the sea!

Our 1st dinner at Maxfields was served on the patio. When we arrived there was live music outside which was quite nice. Our dinners were tasty & the beers were local craft brews. All good with social distancing & masks until a group of 4-5 guys arrived while we waited for our check. They had no masks & stood very close to our table so we went to the bar, paid our bill & left.
The following evening we did take out burgers & brews which were very good. Fries were OK but no ketchup was included in our bag.
We'd go back to Maxfields if we travel to the area again.

We were recently in Potsdam, N.Y. we were in town for an auction and decided to grab some dinner at Maxfields. What a beautiful place to have a cocktail, appetizers or dinner. They have outdoor seating at the back of the restaurant, overlooking the river. It was a hot evening, however, there was a beautiful breeze blowing, so outdoor seating was great. The hostess needed to work on her people skills, otherwise everything else was good. The food was excellent. I had the braised short ribs. My husband had the Halibut. Both meals were delicious. Yes it was a little pricey but what isn't nowadays? Besides I don't mind paying more when the food is excellent.

Very nice atmosphere with outside seating, water views. Pleasant, efficient service and wonderful fresh food prepared with care and skill. Prices where reasonable in comparison to Maryland. It was an overall pleasure and I will become a go to on my future visits!

Terribly hot and uncomfortable couldnt wait to leave. Dinner below average for cost. Had to keep waving off a couple flies when dinner arrived. I will never go back!!!!
