My brother looked online and saw the reviews for Santillo's. He made the trip and brought home pizza for my mom and I for dinner. The pizza was absolutely horrible. The dough- was like cardboard! Mozzarella was tasteless and the sauce was acidic! Threw the...large and small pie out! Large pie w/ 1/2 pepperoni looked like the pepperoni was disintegrated and the pie was too charred! When my brother called to tell them about the horrible experience, they could care less. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy!More
So let me tell you guys about my first time HORRIBLE experience at Santillos...My pregnant girlfriend and I are craving pizza on a rainy Saturday, what better place than Santillos right? (Hearing how great their pizza is from others) So I decide to order via...phone a 2020 style pizza ($28 on their website) with pepperonis as a topping nothing else, fine. 45min later I finally arrive to pick up my pizza. As I am approaching the pizza shop I see a few customers standing outside in the rain waiting to get their orders. Ok, restaurants are only open for takeout fine. I approach the window to pickup my pizza and proceed to pay for my pizza via credit card. All of a sudden I am being told I can’t pay card, cash only. Hmmm that’s strange. (Why didn’t you tell me this over the phone when I ordered the pizza???) Then I question it, I was told the credit card machine was down and also it would take too long to process payment??? In addition, my total is $34??? $6 additional for pepperoni?? Me just trying to get this pizza back to my pregnant girlfriend foolishly got back in my vehicle and headed to the nearest gas station to withdraw “cash” for this pizza. Finally, I get back to Santillos, same customers that were there when I first got there were still waiting on their orders. I tend $40 cash to an employee that appears to be puzzled as if it’s his first day on the job. He hands me my pizza with no change. I then asked him where’s my change??? He then proceeds to tell me “Oh theres no change would you like a $5 dollar 2 liter??!!?” At this point, my Pizza box is getting wet from the rain, im starving, my girlfriend is back home starving, I grab my pizza and my $5 pepsi and rush out of there. This is one of worst experiences in customer service I’ve ever encountered. All in all I spent almost $50 on 1 pie with 1 topping and 1 soda. What a way to take advantage of people in this pandemic crisis we’re going through! Never again!!!! Pizza lovers beware!!!! Btw, pizza was mediocre 🤦🏻♂️More
WOW....I was expecting a great pizza after hearing about this place at a golf tournament in Florida...yup, Florida and discussing pizza in New Jersey. First the good stuff...crust was thin and good. And charred which I do like. That’s all I can think of for...good. Now the rest... Price was $24...yup, $24 for a basic sauce pizza and sausage. $5 for the sausage. I think if you scraped up all the sausage on the pizza it would maybe be two breakfast links! Sauce was so-so...definitely nothing great. So, crust + tomato sauce + very little sausage + very little flavor = $24. Plus tip. Here’s a tip...stay away!More
Don’t understand what the big deal is about this place? The pizza is average. Service is not very good but people seem to rave about it often.. I tried it a few times but I guess it’s not for me.. ??
Had high expectations for this place. Pizza taste just like domino's but with crispy crust.Disappointed
I know pizza. This is by far the best in the area. I especially like the Sicilian. I love that the pizza is described by year.
Top Pizza Simply the best NJ has to offer . Look I take my pizza serious. I’ve been here once and believe me I am not stopping coming here until I go through the whole menu. I’ve tried the rest now it’s time to try...the bestMore
Santillo’s is an institution, and not just because they’ve been there for 100 years. Al Santillo is a pizza genius. I live in upstate NY now, but had a chance to get back to Santillo’s with some friends when I was back in my home...state of NJ this weekend. The 1964 style pie is exquisite. We ate one and I froze the other to bring home. Just an absolutely life changing pizza. There’s no place like home.More
Stopped in here on Xmas eve; we try a new pizza place every year during holidays. I eat a lot of pizza. Bottom line - this is excellent throwback/homemade tasting pizza. Crust is superb, other ingredients all top notch. I had half pepperoni grandma pie...- which is between thin crust and sicilian (he offers bother of those as well), brought it home and heated about an hour later (its take out only) and it was still excellent. One comment - I did find it slightly well done - but Al (who is a very nice guy) has a sliding scale of "doneness" he uses and will gladly tailor your order for you. Smh at some of the reviews saying its "nothing special" - there is so much ordinary pizza out there and this is obviously a huge cut above.More
