Excellent service and meal. Striking exterior and entrance. Interior is beautiful and very comfortable. We were celebrating my hubby's b'day and it was extra special here.

This was a gem of Cape May years past. We had our wedding reception here. Our first date and several anniversaries and Valentine's Day dinners. We understand prices have increased everywhere, however, the quality and presentation of the meals should not suffer. We were greeted...warmly by the hostesses, our waiter was outstanding. The Tuna Tartar appetizer was excellent, as was the bread. The cheese board seemed thrown together and was not worth the money. The entries. The salmon was poorly cooked, the vegetables beneath were ice cold. My swordfish dinner was mushy, with unappealing rice. The salad and dessert were both forgettable. Such as disappointment to guests that have been visiting this establishment for over 27 years. There will be a considerable pause before we return again.More

I sucked it up and paid through open table for a reservation for OUTDOOR seating, which is on a lovely little porch. Me and my elderly mother arrived, and were seated despite my protests, on an indoor porch--rude host, strike one. Noisy wedding dinner (where...they were clearly focused) in the main dining area. People in line ahead of us told me to avoid the wine which I did--waiter was VERY unhappy that we did not order wine (mom does not drink, and I don't want a whole bottle of mediocre wine) strike two and even MORE unhappy when mom ordered soup and salad ($50) and I ordered only an entre ($48) . Bread was stale, food was meh (scallops were tough) and the best and only good dish was the dessert--a creme brulee for like $16. So we spent a good $100 plus and the waiter couldn't wait to turn our table. Strike 3. I will never go back--it was NOT fine dining, the atmosphere was diner vs. dining and wait staff was obvious in wanting to bump up the bill for the tip--hint--we have the $$ to tip you whether or not we have a big bill, why not be gracious? I don't care per se, but mom is 86 and this was a last visit for her, so I'll never forgive Peter Shields. I commented on how bad it was to the B&B owner, she mentioned the owner had retired and this is the new management--GOOD LUCK! PS. I did not see one person on the staff wearing a mask, which would have been respectful--lot of older diners. Not a class act on any level.More

I love the atmosphere of the restaurant. There is a piano player on Saturdays. Sitting in the dining room with the ocean off in the distance while listening to the music is lovely. The service was great. The food was underwhelming. The steak for 2...is fine. It's superfluous to dress up a good oyster with crème fresh and caviar. The salad is okay but just a salad. The wine was great! (But I brought it with me). I wish the food were better... I really enjoy visiting Peter Shields on my Cape May excursions.More

Beautiful restaurant. My wife and I arrived for an 8pm reservation and were promptly seated by a pleasant hostess. Our waitress, Megan, was attentive and knowledgeable. A true professional. On her recommendation I had the butternut squash bisque and the swordfish. Both were prepared wonderfully....My wife's beet salad and Flatiron steak were both excellent. Dessert( also Megan's recommendation) was the toffee pudding. Tremendous!!More

The food was delicious, the service great. The atmosphere was also very nice and what fine dining should be. We loved that it’s BYOB, though they sell local wines. My rating takes into consideration the very limited menu with only 5 entrees, of which 3...are fish (pork and steak were the others). I think 3 of 5 entrees being fish is a lot. The prices are too high for soups, salads and appetizers. Yes, the butternut squash soup was delicious and had about a teaspoon of smoked trout, but at $16, it’s too high. Salads were $15-$17, again very high.More

We are residents of Cape May, but this was our first time back in a year. because of Covid. We came with friends who made a 5:30 reservation on the porch. We waited an hour and ten minutes for our food to arrive with no...explanation from our waitress who was rather inattentive . My steak dinner was lukewarm as well as the mashed potatoes and barely cooked carrots. I did not say anthing as I did not want to hold up anyone from enjoying their dinner. My husband enjoyed his pork chops, but he said they were not memorable. Even the plating of the food was not up to their standards. Three of us ordered coffee. Milk arrived ten minutes later. Dessert was outgstanding. We enjoyed the creme brulee and the toffee pudding was over the top good. Hats off to the pastry chef! The restaurant appeared to have plenty of staff, so I don't know what the issue was. We were so looking forwarded to enjoying a great night out and left disappointed. Maybe it was just an off night, but I wouldn't rush off.More

First of all, be sure you know that they have a very limited menu before you make reservations. I mean a VERY limited menu. They basically have no appetizers. It’s mostly salads and a ridiculously over priced cheese platter. It a nutshell, boring. They have...six dinner entrees to pick from. The pork chop with seasonal vegetables and sweet potato purée was outstanding. The crispy Scottish salmon was good but again, on the small side with an odd assortment of vegetables on the plate. Desserts were average. Their creme brûlée was like vanilla pudding. Their chocolate lava cake was ordinary. Add to this a rude and condescending waitress ( Jennifer, maybe?). We were so disappointed. The place is gorgeous. We were looking for food that matched its surroundings.More

This is one of the best restaurants I have ever had the pleasure of dining in. We go to Cape May every August. because we honeymooned here in 1989 when we were young and poor (we would not have been able to dine here lol)....This time around, we arrived a bit early. The hostess opened one of our wine bottles and served us glasses on the veranda while we waited. Inside, we were able to send song requests via text to their pianist, who is excellent. I won't detail our menu choices because everything they serve here is on point, whatever your tastes. To my mind, this is the best restaurant in Cape May and one of the best restaurants on the entire East Coast. What a gem.More

Dress casual but golf shorts and shirt are ok. We would wear slacks and golf shirt going later for dinner.
