We rotate New Year's Eve dinners between the Green Gateau and MoMo's each year.
This year (Dec 31, 2019) was a bit of a disappointment. There was no special menu for the evening, service was spotty (our bottle of wine arrived after our appetizer and right before our main) and the place could use some sprucing up.The food was just okay - calamari was greasy, steak was over-seasoned, plating was sloppy.
The table was a bit wobbly and the walls were very dusty. So much so that I worried some would detach.
This happens, I get it, but a restaurant of this caliber should know better.
The Green Gateau cake is still THE BEST!

The quiche was very good and the espresso muffin were great but my fruit crepe was disappointing. It tasted like it had been cooked with savory crepes at the same time and I would not have recommended that. I would cook sweet and savory separately. Also, the menu doesn't say the crepes are filled with sour cream and that is what it tasted like. I don't like sour cream. Most of the food was good but a bit inconsistent.

I took my husband to the Green Gateau for Father’s Day brunch. After bloody Mary’s, he ordered a breakfast burrito which was huge, filled with pork and eggs. I chose the lobster Benedict and it was wonderful. The chocolate chip espresso muffin was a great side. Our waitperson, Kaylee, was personable, efficient and courteous. The restaurant was very busy with families honoring the fathers, but we were seated, almost immediately, at a great window at the front. Great service from start to finish and we left very satisfied.

I really wish I could have given this restaurant a good review, but my experience was not a good one. I have been wanting to eat here for 25 years, having heard many great things about it, unfortunately, I could never get anyone to go with me.
Finally, for a special birthday, I insisted on going for brunch. I was really looking forward to an excellent meal. I have dined at other restaurants where former chefs of the Green Gateau now work and have had excellent meals.
We had reservations, and after being seated waited a long time to receive a menu. Our waitress did not tell us about any specials. The waitress at the table next to ours was very friendly and told her table about all the specials in great detail and was prompt to bring her table drinks, while we were still waiting for ours. When our waitress finally returned with our drinks she did not offer us any straws or sugar for the coffee and tea. We asked her about the specials and she only named them off and didn't give any description of them as the other waitress did.
We had a long wait for the food, again table next to us was served before us even though they had arrived after us. When the food came no silverware did. We pointed out that we had no silverware and she returned with 3 sets for our party of 4 and we had to wait several minutes to get the other set. I had ordered a potato pancake and was given hashbrowns. When this was pointed out to the waitress she brought more hashbrowns. The waitress never said that was their potato pancake. The diners at the table next to us told us that it was confusing but what I was being served was their potato pancake. I'm sorry to have to inform the chef, but potato pancakes are made out of MASHED potatoes. What he served is a loaded hashbrown that barely looks any different from the regular hashbrown. This should be clearly explained on the menu. I love REAL potato pancakes and was looking forward to having one, but that is not what I got.
I went to the restroom before I left and the floor all the way through the center of the room and down the hall was sticky and my shoes stuck to it making a lot of noise.
Overall, this experience was a huge let down, especially on a special occasion.

I didn’t realize the Green Gateau was the #1 restaurant in Lincoln when my husband and I went here for dinner, and I definitely see why now.
The food is divine, the portions are perfect, and the service is great.
We ordered the 3 taste courses (soup, entree, and dessert) for $29 each…and each course was amazing.
This restaurant has all my praise, and we will definitely be back. Maybe tomorrow!

The Green Gateau’s breakfast is possibly the best Lincoln has to offer! Moved here in late July and have just about been to every place that offers breakfast in Lincoln. Would say it is comparable to the Kansas City brunch venues. Coffee great, scones are huge and tasty! First time I have found sunny side up eggs cooked correctly anywhere for a long time. Dining companion had crepes and they were spot on as well. Wish they would upgrade the bread one more notch— no need for industrial bread in this town—use the local bakeries!!! Waitstaff were professional and tidy, unlike the average Lincoln restaurants.

Through a strange series of events, we ended up in Lincoln instead of Dallas last night. We had dinner here and we are so thankful we did! The seafood special and crepes were amazing. The waitress (Amy?) provided excellent service. The little things like salads with homemade dressings and Parmesan crisp added to the wonderful experience. The menu is incredible. The only down side is we could only eat one meal. We have decided it is worth another 400 mile drive to come back!

Worth the detour!! The food was as good as I expected from the reviews and the service and atmosphere was fantastic. I had the French Slam and my husband had the Eggs Oscar with a huge potato pancake. Both were wonderful!! We also tried the fresh baked blueberry scone with lemon curd and it was delightful.

We represented two couples all enjoying different menu items. We started with a 93 pt Pinot Noir which was very good. The ladies had French Onion soup which was good. One had a wonderful club sandwich and my wife chicken and salmon which were both good. I started with a wonderful lobster bisque soup and croissant. My main dish was seafood ciopanni containing salmon, shrimp, mussels, and clams all cooked in a tomato style broth. It was cooked perfectly. When three of my shellfish did not open, the manager treated us to a slice of Gateau chocolate cake which was very tasty. We ended our meal with coffee. We had a great waitress who was always there to take orders and offer refills on the drinks. She obviously worked hard to not be intrusive. This is not a 5 star restaurant but would rate a solid 4+.

In this summer of COVID we felt very comfortable dining in. All potential areas of concern were being addressed professionally. The food was simply elegantly served and very delicious. My husband had the buttered Filet and I had the Trout with roasted veggies.

Perfect evening! Our server, Megan, was a pro from start to finish. Her timing was impeccable and the food and wine were delicious. The Brussels Sprouts and Brie appetizers were perfect as well as the crisp salad. My tomahawk pork chop was moist and succulent as well as my friends entrees. Leave room for dessert...we tried 3 and loved them all. Thank you all for a wonderful dinner! Can’t wait to return!

You go to New Orleans to eat Beignets at Cafe du Monte and you are wowed. But Lincoln Nebraska kicks it up many notches. Beignets at The Green Gateau Are almost indescribable with perfect blend of flakiness and doughy texture with just the correct amount of cinnamon. Covered in Powdered sugar accompanied by a ridiculous strawberry jam. Sinful!

I don't usually write reviews. Especially bad ones but today's experience at Green Gateau was particularly horrible. We waited for an hour and a half for our food. The two tables on either side of us were seated considerably later than we were and were served their food before us. I politely told the server we had been waiting a long time. She was very apologetic but of course it was not her fault. When our food did arrive my food and my husband's was terrible. I think I ate two bites. We won't go back there again. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is the beautiful atmosphere and our very kind waitress, who I felt very sorry for and told her so.

I met a friend for lunch today at the Green Gateau as neither of us have been there in a couple of years. When my burger arrived, it was a small patty and not cooked to medium but more rare to medium rare. The waitress offered to have it re-cooked. I almost said no, but when dealing with ground beef, it needs to be cooked through. She brought a plate over to put just the burger patty on it that I had cut. Rather than cooking a fresh patty, the kitchen staff just put the patty on the grill or most likely microwave, as it was in the same cuts that I provided on the plate and still a bit pink. The manager later awkwardly came to the table to apologize, nothing more. It was a disappointing meal and experience. It will be another few years before I go back.

The five of us walked in, the restaurant was pretty full. But we were sitted immediately. Waiter was friendly and quick to serve us. We ordered a bunch of appetizers, the fried calamari was the best, the coconut shrimp stick was good too. I had the sirloin tip fettuccine. The sauce was good and the pasta was cooked just right. Good food, reasonable price, good service. Definitely will come back.
