With a wealth of apartments in 2 blocks of 1029, it's exactly what's needed for everyone to have their "local bar." We were impressed with the chicken wings, fries (wish I had some right now) and the mac & cheese. Inside is a 2 level bar with karaoke some nights and a great outdoor patio that seats a ton of people. We had solid service both nights visiting on a recent trip to Minneapolis - we'll be back.

it was a hoot sitting around that bar.
will go again.
they have outdoors and a truck in the parking lot so you don't have to go in.

Stumbled across this little bar within walking distance of our Airbnb in the north east. Came in to watch the baseball, had fries and beers at great prices. The place is covered in sports stuff and very clean. Served by Kelly who spotted our English accents and looked after us all night. She was very friendly and helpful. They have an outside area too and do take away. A must visit if your passing.

We went out for a special birthday dinner, at a place we had loved years before. We had been looking forward to lobster rolls for more than a week, and unfortunately we were disappointed with the food. The warm evening was nearly perfect. We sat out on the patio, it was shady and comfortable at 7:30PM. Our server was helpful and when I ordered the shrimp po' boy to compliment my wife's lobster roll, I asked about the hot sauce on the po' boy. I was told it really wasn't that hot/spicy. So I ordered it with just a little hot sauce.
The wait for food seemed long, and as the crowd (outside) thinned out we were wondering when our food was going to arrive. Then it came... the fries were just the way we like them - long and thin. Unfortunately the lobster roll wasn't what we had here before, and not what we expected. It was a large chunks of lobster meat, sandwich. Not lobster meat chopped up and served on an actual roll with the lobster cascading over the edges. The sauce it was mixed with was tasty, but it was a different experience, both textually and aesthetically. As for the shrimp po'boy, I should have sent it back. It was way too hot for my taste. Certain spices I can enjoy, but not this hot sauce. There were lots of shrimp, but the bread (again a sandwich) could not stand up to the ingredients and completely fell apart when I tried eating it.
We'll try the new Smack Shack opening in Bloomington and hope that the food is more to our liking.

I won on pull tabs, during dinner and tried to cash out after only to find out they won’t except my winnings after 15 mins. I’ve been playing pull tabs for 30 years in Minnesota bars and this is a first time to not cash in on my pulll tabs! Cost me over $50! We spent over $150 on dinner and $100 in pull tabs. Lame. Won’t be back and used to go a lot until now.

The treated us like dogs. We were cut off because we didn’t leave a tip that they like it. The waitress were so disrespectful and they talked with the bouncers. They were on our side!!!!!!! But they needed to follow orders from the waiters.

Another stop on the Nordeast Walking Tour with Patrick, Susan and Mike:
Dranks only, and our friend Holly was running the raffle wheel. We spent most of the visit gabbing and catching up with her and she never missed a beat.
We've been here a few times - sometimes for food - and we always have a good time.

This is a strange little corner bar, with a small interior area with an outdoor patio - partially shaded with a large awning. It has a lovely Captain Morgan statue outside...
Beer selection is OK, a little heavy on the national brands - it could really use a better selection of local craft beers. The kitchen is a Smack Shack location - complete with a variety of lobster and other seafood themed eats - lobster mac and cheese, lobster poutine (needed more gravy, but otherwise excellent). Food prices are pretty steep, but portions are huge - go and share !

The 1029 Bar has been a neighborhood establishment for a long time! Funky decor, friendly vibe, fabulous waitstaff, and fabulous lobster rolls are the hits of this place. It is in the NE arts district so it has plenty to offer. I can hardly wait to go back once the snow has melted so I can sit on their patio. The lobster roll has tarragon in it and is superb!

So the decor is interesting. There are bras hanging up all over the place. I asked the waitress and she said if a women flashes and gives up her bra, they get a free drink. As for the food, I got a lobster roll that was very good

Their menu says Po boy. It was not the traditional Po boy. Came with hot sauce on it. You have to pay extra for mayo, lettuce and tomato which is standard on a traditional Po boy. We also had the lobster roll! DELICIOUS! Definitely saved the trip from being a waste. Service was top notch. Clean bar. Nice portion sizes compared to cost.

I have been to the 1029 bar many times and have had a great time drinking, gambling and eating. It’s a fun place to go at anytime of day. The people will always treat you right. Special shout out to Mike the bouncer for coming to find me when I forgot my stuff at the bar.

Get there early, most evenings if you want to get a seat, as this is a popular neighborhood hangout, with great food (I LOVE the lobster roll sandwich) nice servers, and a fun atmosphere for a small neighborhood bar.

I stopped in for dinner and a couple drinks and got a great meal with great service. Our table split an order of the smack wings and I wish I could have had them all to myself. The smack sauce was amazing. I had the Roast Beef Po Boy for the main course and it was delicious as well.
The portions for me and my group were generous and well worth the price. It was a busy Friday evening and the servers were all very friendly and quick.

Head here for the Lobster rolls or Lobster Mac and Cheese. Eat outside. Catch a great NE Minneapolis vibe. Laid back bar. Never been inside to eat or hang out...The patio is great.
