Good breakfast place. Limited indoor seating now available. A few outdoor tables, too. Loved the oatmeal (with raisins) and corned beef hash. Waffles okay. Didn’t like the coffee. Friendly service. They didn’t have any carriers for takeout, so was very inconvenient when taking coffees and oatmeals (served in large cups for takeout) to the car and transporting. Plenty of parking in front of the restaurant. Good prices.

Wonderful Diner!

We always enjoy experiencing diners whenever we travel. We stopped her for lunch and they are abiding by the COVID-19 limitations but the food was wonderful. I had the trail chicken salad sandwich and my husband had the taco plate. Both were served promptly by the most friendly server and the food was delicious!

Wonderful journey back to the 50s. Owner is always on board. Very friendly atmosphere. The food is classic diner fare, but impeccably prepared. The pancakes melt in your mouth. Boston made coffee. Wonderful assortment of 50s memorabilia.

So disappointing

Part of starting our vacation has always been looking forward to breakfast at Route 28 Diner. We were surprised to see the New Ownership sign. And we were worried because there were very few cars in the parking lot at 8 am. But went in with a hopeful attitude. Very clean establishment...Pleasant greeting. Weak horrible coffee, which was commented on by the server who brought another cup.Just as bad. The omelet looked tasty...and was meh ( at best) if you removed the slimy spinach. And no thank you to the hash browns. Also ordered over easy eggs and rye (that was actually multi grain?) toast. Meh again. The cutlery and plates reeked of sanitizer which lent a chemical smell to the food. As we didn't drink the coffee, and the server commented on the 'bad brew', we expressed our reluctance to pay for the coffee. She removed the charge with a bit of attitude and gave us the bill. Which was wrong. Charged us for a meat potato and egg breakfast instead of the 2 eggs and toast. Again with the attitude, she fixed the receipt. ( there were 3 servers and no customers besides us, so they weren't so busy to be confused.) we thanked her. Left the tip on the table, brought the check to the register after filling out the receipt for the amount to be taken from our debit card AND explaining that the tip was on the table and please do not add to the receipt amount specified. Server was very rude and silent and nodded. I Balanced my checkbook today only to find the amount charged was the cost of breakfast. PLUS TIP! So... terrible food Worse coffee Server attitude And totally ignoring the receipt amount specified I am sad to see such a little gem of an eatery disappear. But my advice to you? Go elsewhere.

Bad Food Bad Service Dishonest

Stopping here has been a vacation ritual for many years. We were worried when we saw the “New Management” sign and the empty parking lot but gave it a try. Food was horrible, asked for rye toast got multi grain something, my spouses omelet was horrible. Even the coffee was undrinkable! We were charged for the most expensive breakfast when all I ordered was two eggs and toast. They fixed the bill. I put a few dollars on the table for tip and did not put any on the charge slip. When we reviewed our account we saw the they had added a tip in on their own !! These people are blatantly incompetent and dishonest on top of everything else. DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS PLACE !

Very bad experience

Wow this place looked so cute on the outside, but the food was horrible. We ordered some juice and I ordered and ice coffee which was so water down like when you pour hot coffee onto some ice, when I finally got the waitress to give it back she asked me if it was ice tea. Waited an hour for breakfast and it was tasteless. I ordered a veggie omelet and add the extra avocado for 2.00. I was thinking the avocado would come on the outside but it was cooked into my omelet and I’m there were also green olives in it. It tasted soooo bad. The cauliflower hash was tasteless and not cooked right at all. Over all terrible experience. Don’t waste your money here.

We were very upset to see that this local classic diner has changed hands This place was a little gem and it had very nice food - it was very inexpensive and lots of local people would go there including us apparently in March 2022 they sold it to people that although very pleasant made the menu very expensive and changed 99% of the menu. They had no specials of the day and The food was of very poor quality The old menu used to have delightful yogurt parfaits $4.98 also individually cooked oatmeal served with lots of fresh fruit and real maple syrup for $5.89 They used to have a fabulous taco omelette which was delicious everything on the old menu was under $10 Fabulous pancakes waffles whipped cream it was an amazing place I was shocked to see this current children’s menu did not offer pancakes which was really ridiculous because what child does not like pancakes? My husband and I would go in there and eat almost every other weekend for about $23 Now they have on their menu steak and eggs for $23 and I dread to think what they taste like because the $11 eggs sausages patties and “home fries” were not worth finishing Very weak coffee I really hope they change their menu and their prices I noticed this on the memorial day weekend and the place wasn’t full and usually there’s a lineup of people waiting to get in the door and nowhere to park. Lots of locals used to go there. Unfortunate change to a cape cod staple.

Wow, awful

Been going here for years, always had awesome food. just ordered from their takeout it was horrifying awful. raw potatoes had hash browns scrambled eggs was essentially an omelette with no flavor just dumped on the container and a piece of bread and 2 thin pancakes that are rubber. Bacon and sausage link. Even the cat refused to eat the egg. This was the place to go. Not now. How do you screw up breakfast? Well rye 28 diner knows how. Damn.

New owners are struggling

The new owners are clearly novices in the restaurant business. Unorganized, but friendly, wait staff seem to get in each other way. The menu is now very basic with no creative and delicious specials that the previous owner always had. The food they do serve is fine, standard diner fare.

Very Disappointing

Having frequented this diner for many years I was unaware of the change in ownership. Very disappointed that they didn’t offer a wider lunch option. I eat soup, tuna roll, hotdog typical dner food. The food was fine, limited menu, no toaster home fries with the omelette. Just not representative of diner. Wait Steph was fine, service was timely but there was no one here. I won’t recommend it. Maybe if they change their branding. Prices were also quite high. For what was given.

Don’t bother. Horrible coffee and even worse service

The place is pretty cool. The food was good. However, the coffee is like water. Service was terrible. Had to ask for more coffee four times before I got it. Actually was rudely told by one server that “when she had time, she would get it. Waited 20 mins for it. Not acceptable at any place. Two servers had attitudes - extremely rude. It’s too bad. If they got better coffee and nicer, more responsive servers, they’d get 4 stars. Will not go back.

This place was sooo good last year 😢 they are under new management and it was not what we were expecting at all. Not good. Not good at all. Save yourself a visit and go somewhere else especially if you are visiting from out of town like us

Sad and Disappointed 😔

This was a yearly breakfast spot for us that we left led forward to every year. Undeniably under new management. We now know why the parking lot was empty. 2 out of 3 Order were wrong. Opened the ketchup bottle and water (we think) poured out all into the table. Lost my appetite after that. We left sad and disappointed. We will not be going back.

Really sad breakfast

Was excited to go to this place for breakfast. Service was disorganized . Took over two hours to get breakfast and our orders were wrong. We had to fix the check at the end because we got charged for an item we did not order. Other tables got their food before us after coming in far after. Food was good but not worth the hassle or aggravation.

Food was inedible. Pancakes tasted like chemicals. Home fries uncooked. Service awful too. 45 minutes for food in uncrowded diner. So disappointed. Server unresponsive to guests complaints at another table. Like she could care less. Forgot 1/2 their order. Never again.
