After a day with out-of-town visitors touring some of the Smithsonian museums downtown, we drove back up to Silver Spring and enjoyed a delightful al fresco dinner with them at All Set. Two of our foursome got the salmon. I can't remember what the third got; and I chose the fish tacos (my favorite meal there). The servers are simply sensational; the food terrific; and the early evening air sublime. We had a great meal and an even greater time.

Downtown Silver Spring is somewhat lacking in ambitious entrepreneurial restaurants. All Set is a venture by partners who previously worked at the Capitol Grill in Chevy Chase. They have built a restaurant where the cooking is ambitious but the ambiance is neighborhood friendly. The nautical theme of All Set is reflected in the decor but the overall menu is only slightly seafood-leaning.
There is plenty of choices for everyone's tastes.Their spin on comfort food favorites like Fish and Chips, Bar B-Q Ribs and Fried Chicken are part of a menu that also includes more adventurous—but still approachable—food. Trout Crab Meunière or Crispy Salmon are two examples of entrees that approach a fine dining level.
The menu changes periodically, sometimes with a elegant take on crab cakes that are sautéed and are mostly lump crab, braised short ribs or a roasted chicken show up at times. One thing that is always on the menu are two burger choices that are worth the trip just by themselves. One is a typical bacon cheese enlivened by pickled zucchini, and the other is a surf and turf burger with fried oysters a slaw. The beef burger on both is a lightly-packed saloon style patty with great flavor. They both come with good hand cut fries.
All Set does a great Sunday brunch and has a daily happy hour with popular items on their menu at low prices. I like oysters on the half shell, and All Set's are fresh, but I can't bear to pay $3 each for a gulp of bivalve. Luckily they are only $1 each at happy hour.
Add to that a nice cocktail program, revolving beers on tap, and pleasant and knowledgeable servers; this is a restaurant that is worth a weekly trip for people near downtown Silver Spring—or even a bit further away.

During the height of Covid, All Set was our go-to place for dining, as they had heated outdoor tables, great food and enthusiastic service. It'd been awhile since our last visit, and they've made some changes: slimmed down menu; many fewer outdoor tables. But the food is still great -- I LOVE their fish tacos, and my wife loved her mussels. And the service is still enthusiastic. A fine al fresco lunch with good friends at one of the few remaining outdoor tables, now equipped with new heaters for the cooler weather,

Food was honestly really lacking at every turn. Oysters were small and had a weird taste. The soup we got was bland and basically every dish had no flavor. Service was fine and the only real redeeming quality. Way overpriced and food needs an upgrade. We have a few friends that tried this place as well and they all seem to be on the same page. Tasteless and overpriced.

Birthday dinner for my wife, who has had good experiences here. Server was nice, seemed to have a helper, but needed even more help. Some entrees came before appetizers, many of the mussels were not cooked, and my salad came last. I had to beg for condiments and when they arrived I had no appetite. Asked for coffee, which never came. Mussels were left on bill until I pointed out many seemed inedible. This meal took forever, which happens when you’re ignored. The only good thing was a scoop of birthday ice cream, hence the single star.
Nice thought to charge 20% as a base, but act like you’re earning it!
Charge 50% if you want, I’m not going back….

Happy hour oysters ($1 each) are delicious and fresh--you can't go wrong. Also, the happy hour mussels are in a tasty broth with good crunchy bread for dipping.
Cocktails are little less inventive but really any of your standard favorites are going to be fine.
Get there early on Fridays after work if you want a table!

It got up into the 60’s, so we met good friends at our favorite Silver Spring spot with outdoor tables and propane heaters for what turned out to be a sensational feast of food and conversation. We’re regulars by now (came here two or three times a week last Fall so we could be face-to-face with friends at opposite ends of a picnic table. By now we’ve learned to bring our own cushions,and the staff all know us well, so arriving is more like a celebration. Three of us got a bourbon cocktail (delicious and potent!). I got crispy salmon on a bed of lentils (my favorite on the menu) while everyone else got burgers or chili. We had a great time.

All four of us got our favorite dishes from the menu...the Salad Nicosia and Crispy Salmon respectively for my wife and me; the fish & Chips and Pork BBQ for our friends. We had a great time visiting with each other at our outdoor table (there were people at a number of indoor tables, but we’re not ready for that yet). The food was sensational as always; the staff were sensational. This is a class operation.

All Set has long been one of our favorite places to meet with friends in Silver Spring. It's been especially welcome since Covid because they have outdoor tables with heaters. We didn't need heaters today: the weather was delightful, the food was hot and our conversation with good friends was especially warm. You can't go wrong with the menu, but if you want to stick within a budget, order carefully.

I never miss an opportunity to come to All Set and yesterday was my husband’s first experience here. Coming from Chicago where diversity of restaurants is ubiquitous- I love this place. The food is so delicious that I frequently order the same entree- the trout is cooked perfectly!!! I try new options like the sweet potato brisket that was flavorful and the brisket was tender and juicy. Service is friendly, attentive and food served hot. Don’t miss this gem!

AlkSet us a friendly place with well-trained staff. The servers are quiet, attentive but not overly so, the orders are taken soon after seating and delivered to the table all together for all members of the party. The food is good, consistently so, not a number of overwhelming choices, but have a good choice!.

From the moment I sat at the bar for dinner, I was well taken care of. Luis made great dinner recommendations of the Caesar salad and "Trout Crab Meuniere". He was accommodating, friendly, and even recharged my phone while there. Genai was charming and attentive, and also made great recommendations, including a non-alcoholic version of "The Provincetown" cocktail - Sooo Delish!

All Set has become our go-to spot in Silver Spring for al fresco eating with friends in Silver Spring. They have a new smoker, so their Carolina-inflected barbecue dishes are even better than before. On the other hand, my wife and I are solid fans of their Salad Nicosia, the Crispy Salmon, and the Fish Tacos. There’s a wonderful vibe to this place which attracts and delightfully diverse clientele.

We met my wife’s cousins for an Al fresco dinner at all Set that was one for the books. We arrived first during happy hour and enjoyed the inexpensive drinks. Then, as a table, the four of us shared a mushroom burger, beef burger, fish tacos, sweet potato fries and a huge salad. Wonderful, all, and served with panache. This place got us through the darkest days of Covid, and now that things have settled down, their kitchen has just taken off. A Silver Spring treasure.

We came for lunch yesterday (Aug. 5). We worry about COVID so chose to eat outside. Unfortunately it was unearably hot but not once we were seated. Between the way All Set is built and the giant fan, we were cool and comfortable. There were three of us and the food was great. Service was fast and the server (young, curly haired chap) was enthusiastic, friendly, attentive and super competent.
