Actually, I've been to this restaurant several times, however, this was the first visit in two years since the pandemic started. But, unfortunately, the most recent visit was somewhat disappointing in regard to the quality of the food. I had the veggie burger which wasn't...bad, but my buddy, who had never been here, had a steak which he said was way overcooked to the point of tasting burnt. Afterward, I had the chocolate bread pudding, but it was more like a cupcake than bread pudding, which was a real bummer. It had a cake like texture as opposed to bread! Don't know that I'd go back or recommend. There was such a huge swing in the quality of the food from previous visits that I had to wonder if the kitchen staff had changed after the pandemic. The only good point was that the service was excellent, but it's the food that matters the most!More

Overall we enjoyed our recent dinner at Coastal Flats in Gaithersburg. We came to the restaurant on a Monday evening without reservations. We entered the restaurant and the hostess greeted us and asked if we had reservations. We replied no and she took a few...minutes to check dining room status. She then escorted us to a booth in the dining room. We love the overall ambiance of the dining room. Lots of fun fish hanging from the ceiling and interesting art work on the walls. We had a view of the exhibition kitchen. Our server Alexander came to the table and inquired if we would like beverages. My guests ordered an Arnold Palmer ($4.00) and a glass of Columbia Crest Cabernet Sauvignon 9oz ($12.00), I ordered a Stella Pinot Grigio glass 9oz ($13.00) The restaurant has a nice wine list offering and many offered by the glass in either 6 or 9 oz pours, After serving beverage we placed our order with him. I asked what the fish of the day was and he described it and the price (Red Snapper $35),, I then asked what the market price of the crab cakes were and he replied $45. I ordered the crab cakes with spinach and cole slaw. My guests ordered the Fish Fingers ($18) and Babycake Sliders (2) ($10.00). I also asked for some bread service ($1.00), Alexander brought what was some doughnut type of bread with honey butter. The restaurant makes a donation of $1.00 when you order bread service to help improve food insecurity in the community. Food was served quickly and was prepared as expected. The cole slaw was some of the best I have ever had, crisp and fresh. My crab cakes were prepared to perfection and while $45 seems like a lot I know that the restaurant is paying premium prices for lump crab meat. My wife loved her fish fingers, a generous portion and my other guest enjoyed her sliders. After dinner our plates got cleared by another server Alyssa who also took our dessert order. We decided to share a piece of their Key Lime Pie ($8.00). A good decision and we highly recommend this dessert. Alyssa brought our check and wished us a good day. I asked if her and Alexander were partners and she replied that they were responsible for the area where our table was. Stopped in 5:30 on Friday evening. Great timing, place packs out by 6pm. Deviled eggs for a starter the best. Hickory chargrilled first special the way to go. This visit was Branzino and perfectly prepared. Wide variety menu, top shelf ingredients and great service.

Located in the Downtown Crown development outside of Gaithersburg, Coastal Flats is a delightful venue that makes one think of a vacation on the shore - a trip to the beach. They offer a full menu of seafood, ranging from mahi-mahi to fish tacos. Of...course, they offer burgers, salads and pasta. (I enjoyed their Louisiana Pasta, which is reminiscent of jambalaya. Delicious food, but beware of "market prices." We celebrated a birthday there with a group, and a few of us got the crab cakes. The crab cakes were small but delicious. They came with fries and coleslaw. When we got the bill, we were stunned...to see this meal was $41. (It would have been awkward to ask the price before we ordered.) The atmosphere was festive with fun aquatic decor, but it was very loud and hard to hear what our server was telling us. We felt a bit taken advantage of, because of the surprise price of this light meal. The other meals in our party had small serving sizes also. So, I'm not sure if we would return.More

Had lunch there today for the first time in six years and the service, atmosphere and food were all top notch. I had the veggie burger and my buddy had the chicken Caesar salad and both were excellent, we got seated and waited on quickly...and our food came out in less than 10 minutes. I've put it on my list of restaurants to check out more often.More

Rating is average because the first part of our experience was not acceptable, Just wandered down to Gaithersburg to eat at Coastal Flats, as they are related to Sweetwaters in VA, where we had a wonderful experience Well, we sat outside and it was not...too busy. Someone came to clean our table and then asked us if we wanted drinks. I ordered a Mojito and an appetizer. Mojito came and it tasted like water with mint. 40 minutes later no appetizer nor did ANYONE come by to take our order or ask how we are doing. I had to go inside and inform them of our problem. Well, the manager there, Kayla,. came by and we explained again our problem. Oh, did I mention another couple behind us came in after us and they were already eating. Kayla, did apologize and explained that this was not the experience she wanted us to have. She proceded to redo my drink and it came back in record time. My appetizers also came in 5 minutes. Our entrees were very tasty and were served in an acceptable time frame. Kayla came by again and asked how everything turned out, and we thanked her for her running interference and correcting the problem. The bill came and she did not charge us for the Mojito nor the appetizer. Also gave us a dessert to take home Bravo Kayla, it is because of you, that we will be coming back to Coastal Flats. Definitely a great place to be (dinner, with friends or solo). Tasty food and a good and friendly service; nice atmosphere at the bar and/or in the main hall. I have spent few weeks in Gaithersburg and I have visited this place several time, and always...satisfied. Coastal Flats is great for dinner, lunch, or just drinks. Filet, Jambalaya, Shrimp Roll, Ossie rolls and Key Lime Pie are awesome. Nice atmosphere inside, at the bar, or on their deck. Always good service.

When arriving, we were virtually ignored by the hostess stand while they spoke to one another and then were told it would be 45 min wait (no problem). I gave my phone number and told them we’d wait in the bar. I was told I’d...have to come check back in 45 mins- so why did I give my phone number? Either way, drinks at the bar were not great- borderline good, overly sweet and they weren’t able to accommodate a pretty simple order (a skinny margarita). I got a text our table was ready and headed to the hostess stand where we were once again ignored for several mins while they talked to each other. After being seated, our waitress (didn’t catch her name but she was excellent) was very attentive. We ordered a round of cosmos - the drink delivered to us had raspberry purée in it - was NOT a cosmo. Our great waitress realized it as soon as she poured and went to get the correct order. The cosmo was once again just ok and only 2/3 full. Our meals took 40 minutes to come after ordering and they were very simple orders. Food was fine - nothing outstanding but solidly good. The bathrooms were also not well kept with toilet paper all over the floor. I very rarely take the time to write a negative review but I won’t return based on this experience.More

Enjoyed being out and about at a patio table. The black bean burger was wonderful with sweet potato fries. the spinach dip was a perfect starter with. Ariana and the team took excellent care of us.
