Food never disappoints. Fresh & Fabulous every time! The free breakfast begins with a fresh squeeze juice blend if you want. Next is an additional french pastry or sweet concoction of the Chef's choosing. Your entree is going to be a hard choice to make so beware! There is always a Chef's Special Frittata option for breakfast too. The Dinner menu regularly changes to reflect seasonal options and flavors. My husband is gluten free and Chef Michael is always able to accommodate dietary needs if you call ahead or mention during the dinner reservation. The wine list is extensive and the staff are very kind & knowledgeable even if you're not! Haha

We tried to reserve dinner here a month in advance but never got off the waitlist. Wish we had stayed at the Inn as guests get priority. However we learned that they have a take out dinner menu and there is a local deliver service (only $7!). We did have to reheat minimally on arrival, but the food was excellent - salad, salmon …

Thank you so much for your review! Our dining room is quite small and during high season, many of our guests stay with us on dining packages - which reserve most of our tables. We highly encourage those wanting to dine with us in the summer months to choose this option. However, for those not staying at the Inn, our Curbside Menu is always available and delicious!

I wish I could rate it 6 stars!! My husband and I had a memorable, delicious dinner at Hartstone Inn. The ambiance was very cozy and service was excellent! We started off with yummy Oysters then we had their $40-45 three course STATE OF THE ART menu by a well known chef. Highly recommend! We cannot wait to return. :D

We attempted to secure a dinner reservation approximately 1 month before arrival, but were told we would be put on a long list and never received a return call. On entering on the first night we inquired again and were told they were fully booked. We did take advantage of the happy hour twice though it proved to be a bit disappointing in comparison to prior years. The happy hour runs 5-6PM daily and is limited to 6 specialty cocktails costing $6.99 each. All well and good, but we were disappointed that the pinchos are now one per customer rather than one per drink. Secondly, and more importantly, the specialty cocktails, at least the 3 we had, were pre-made and quite obviously less than generous with the alcohol. Our bartender, new to the job, was quite friendly.

Westie2, thank you so much for your feeback. We wish we would have known this while you were onsite so we would have been able to answer your concerns personally. Camden has had an extremely busy tourist season - The Hartstone Inn has been no exception. We have done our best to accommodate our in house guests with dinner reservations however, as you know, our dining room is quite small and like most places in the country - we are short staffed. Most evenings this summer/fall - our dining room has been booked at least 3 months out. We know this is frustrating for some guests, therefore we have our curbside menu for guests to order from and enjoy in the comfort of their rooms or on our beautiful outside patio. This was also an option during your stay. A fill bar is always available during Happy Hour. Our signature drinks are discounted during that time, and I can confirm, they are very boozy. Our complimentary hors d'oeuvres offered during that time are included with every drink. As you mentioned, our staff working during that time was in training and may not have been aware of this. Again, we thank you for your feedback and will utilize to enhance future guests overall experience with us.

We ordered lobster bisque, corn bread., codfish and a chicken pasta dish and dessert all to go it was excellent on time hot and we ate it outside by the water. I can’t wait to go back when I am comfortable eating inside again

You can order and pay on line, then drive to the restaurant and park in the designated spot. The food is brought to you....well packaged...and conveniently bagged. We have had the potato crusted cod, lobster pasta, merken vegetables, and flank steak. Never been disappointed. Great option for those who want a great meal without going in to a restaurant.

I'm a new local. Tonight was my first dining experience with this restaurant and I did not dine-in. Therefore I couldn't judge the service but I gave 5 stars based on the food and my online ordering experience. I had curbside cuisine because I'm a homebody and they are offering this service during the pandemic. Every morsel of food was spectacular. As others have mentioned, the food is also reasonably priced. I am so sorry to not have discovered this place sooner.

We have enjoyed the Hartstone Inn and Restaurant multiple times for a number of years; it is one of our favorite restaurants in mid-coast Maine, and a wonderful place to stay in Camden. This review is for the restaurant. Michael, the proprietor and chef, was not present during our latest culinary experience, however he left the restaurant in the very capable hand of his sous chef and staff. The service staff was its normal friendly, efficient and always present, but not hovering, (thank you Catherine and Emily). The food was impeccable; well proportioned, incredible taste sensations, and wonderful presentation. The menu is a little different now, with all meals being priced equally, and a semi-fixed menu of three or four items in each category (appetizer, entrée and desert) to choose from. This provides options for the guest, and allows the restaurateur to run a little more efficiently. A good combination. The dining room(s) are relatively small and much quieter than larger, open space type environments. We look forward to our next visit.

Dinner for 2 at the Hartstone Inn was a treat. The menu is a prix fixe, with several options for starters, main course, and dessert. Highlights from our meal included the beef hanger steak and the chicken remoulade (I never order chicken in a restaurant!) that was tender and flavorful-I would order it again! Also getting high marks are the Grand Marnier souffle and from their curbside menu, the Sticky Toffee pudding. Service was friendly and attentive. Highly recommended.

My husband and I wanted a special meal for our wedding anniversary but we were a bit disappointed. The service was very slow and unfortunately it was very difficult for us to hear or understand several of our servers (several of whom seemed to be in training). Both of our first course soups were very salty. I could not eat mine and it was replaced with a salad. I think our server misunderstood that my husband preferred his steak rare rather than the standard medium rare. His steak arrived well done. He did not complain because he is a very kind man. My vegan dish (special request) was ok but I did not really enjoy it. The grilled fruit (peaches?) had a very strong smoky flavor. It was an odd combination of dried fruit, wilted spinach, cauliflower and spicy pepper with the grilled fruit over couscous. It too was overly salty. The desserts were fine but were abruptly served without us being offered coffee or tea. Service was slow - we left exactly 2 hours after arriving. All in all not the dinner we had hoped for.

Not the same quality or service, since their is a new chef! From the very start to finish a truly disappointing experience. We should have been warned when we saw the restaurant was only 1/4 full . We now know for a reason! To start, there was a twenty minute wait for a small portion of bread for the table (which one is charged extra for), in a practically empty restaurant. The lobster bisque soup was overpowered by tomato’s, the scallop appetizer was over salted, the main entree of duck was served cold (the meat, sauce and pear and carrots all cold). This dish was returned to the kitchen to be heated correctly. The dish was returned with half the amount of duck. Our guess is that when it was attempted to reheat it many pieces of the duck were then over cooked and no longer able to be served. Two of us were served while one of us had no food for 10 minutes, and she only ordered flatbread! The previously friendly server suddenly had a negative attitude towards our table, after having to ask for the food to be reheated. In reality the chef should have apologized to the guest instead of punishing the guest with half the portion. Unbelievable! The overall quality of the food and service is not the same as it was since their is a new chief, or in this case, new cook in the kitchen, and two untrained high school kids as servers. Sadly it added a sore note to our special occasion night out.

We had dinner at the Hartstone on a Sunday night earlier this month. The highlights of the cuisine were the Lobster Francaise, the haddock with shrimp and scallops, and the cheesecake. The only disappointment was the quail appetizer, which had nice flavor but little meat. The service had problems. First, we were served the starter meant for another table of diners. Then we were brought very good bread but no butter. Later, I was brought a dessert that I had not ordered. When I got the cheesecake that I did request it came without a fork, so I ate it with the only clean spoon at myself service. Then we were brought our bill before we had an opportunity to order an after-dinner coffee. To top it off, the staff had not notice that restroom had no toilet tissue until I pointed it out.

We had eaten here before and while the food was always good, had mixed feelings about service. We got curbside here twice this year, and if we had known how good it was we would have done more. Very efficient ordering, lots of gluten-free choices. Very efficient contactless pickup. Probably the best value in the area for combination of price and quality. Outstanding items for us were deviled eggs and seared tuna. They have an incredibly inexpensive, yet decent, wine offering. Highly recommend getting dinner here.

This is our third time staying at this wonderful inn. The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming, whether checking in, checking out, or anything in between...breakfast, tea and cookie time, happy hour or dinner as well as meeting lots of wonderful guests. The staff is so friendly and ready to help with any needs. This weekend they gave us great suggestions of things to see and do. They even gave wonderful ideas for our way home. When we were ready to leave yesterday morning, and brought our things to our car, we were so surprised to find that our car had been cleared of the snow that had fallen through the night! Wow, what service! The food is amazing...something different and so tasty every meal. Chef Michael and Mary Jo are wonderful hosts!

Very nice experience. I was a little hesitant because the menu on the web site really is not clear about the offering. They speak to a “curbside” menu and the tasting menu but the curbside menu was not available on the site. Then, our hotel did not even know about this place. Maybe thats more about the hotel. We were seated on time. Server quite nice but came to the table and asked if we wanted to drinks without even greeting us. I had to ask her name. Drinks were fine. We had the salad for first course; great dressing and crunchy lettuce. Bread service as well, home made focaccia. My wife had the bass and I had the duck, both excellent. They offer two inter-mezzos; a vegetable spoon and then sorbet. Portions were good and flavors excellent. Dessert was a pistachio sorbet with fig compote, also excellent. The $65 price fix is a fair price for what you get. I never really like a price fixed menu but I would go back. It was strange though that on a Friday night in August they were not full.
