CLOSED 😡 Was in Lexington for the first time and drove out for some famous fried chicken and found it closes at 5:30 pm. The sign had "we're now open" and doors were locked. Posted hours OK and no sign on the door. Rechecked Trip...Advisor and their website -- no indication it would have been closed.More

I have been in Lexington, KY numerous times over the years, but I only became aware of Parkette this year. I read it was Lexington’s oldest restaurant, so I decided to give it a try in Feb. I loved it! Great food and great retro...environment. I tried the signature hamburger. When we returned a couple of months later—in April—I tried the chicken livers (not a lot of people’s favorite dish I know), but they tasted a lot like the way my mother used to cook them. I had planned to make this a frequent stop as I passed through Lexington, but I read a couple of days ago that they closed unexpectedly. A diner that has been around since the early 50s is closing for good it seems. It was busy both times we were there, so it’s hard for me to believe it lacked business, but obviously the owner felt it was too hard to make a profit, so it had to close. I am really sad that this place is no longer in business, but I thought I would post how much I enjoyed it.More

Old school diner vibe, countertop service, or drive up. We ate at the counter, which was clean and pleasantly retro. Server was very friendly. Burgers were all good, sides were terrible. Oh good lord, those fries should be banned. They were either freezer burnt or...baked… but they were such a damper on the whole burger and fries vibe. Milkshakes were freshly spun. Maybe we visited on an off day.More

Came here cause we love diners and try to find “local flavors” when we travel. Saw many TV foodies visited and decided to try. Not at all worth the hype. I’ve had better quality burgers from high school football concession stands. Hard bun, cheap meat,...generic fries, dry fried chicken… Tots (generic) were the best part of the 3 meals we ordered. Felt ripped off, left hungry.More

This was a nice little diner. The restaurant was decorated in 50’s 60’s decor, they use syrup to flavor sodas. We all ordered something different and all plates were licked clean. Decent price, good food, good service, friendly staff.

The last time my wife and I visited Parkette Drive In, it was owned and managed by Tom Parker, a former Collinsville (Ill.) High School and University of Kentucky basketball star I had met for the first time when I was the high school sports...editor for the St. Louis Globe-Democrat and Parker was my choice as the Player of the Year in the St. Louis area in 1968. Now the owners are Jeff and Randy Kaplan and Parkette Drive In remains a go-to destination on everybody's bucket list. Located at 1230 East New Circle Road in Lexington, Kentucky, on Route 4, north of Liberty Road, south of Route 60, it was established in 1951, a nostalgic 1950s drive in serving fried chicken, shrimp, burgers, poor boy sandwiches and sweet treats. You can't miss the place. Its famous sign was constructed in 1957. And the food will bring you back. My wife and I started with bowls of chili with chopped onions and shredded cheddar cheese. My wife enjoyed a patty melt, two beef patties on grilled Texas toast with two slices of American cheese, sauteed onions and Chipotle mayo sauce. I couldn't resist a Parkette premium poor boy sandwich, two four-ounce Angus beef patties with a slice of American cheese, a slice of onion, lettuce, tomato, pickles, mustard and Parkette's own sauce on a toasted double decker bun. With fries, a chocolate milk shake and a root beer float. For dessert, we shared a banana split with vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream, bananas, strawberry topping, pineapple topping, chocolate sauce, whipped cream and a cherry on top. Open from 11 to 8 Monday through Thursday and 11 to 9 on Friday and Saturday, Parkette Drive In is a popular gathering place after Kentucky home football and basketball games. Big sellers are the 1/2-pound shrimp basket with fries, cole slaw and rolls and the fried chicken. How about a family feast, an eight-piece mixed order with two breasts, three legs, three thighs, six rolls, a pint of cole slaw, a pint of gravy and fries? Another favorite is the Parkette chili cheese dog topped with shredded cheddar cheese, chopped onions and mustard.More

We stopped at the Parkette Drive In while visiting Lexington in late July 2021. We ordered the chicken strip box (8.99) and the fisherman's special (6.99). The chicken strips were terrible. They were so overcooked, it was like chewing on a piece of rubber, and...very bland. This is possibly the worst chicken I've ever tasted. The fish sandwich wasn't much better. Very bland with way too much tarter sauce. The fries that came with the chicken stip box were soggy, but tolerable. I recommend you avoid this place. We certainly will.More

We had heard so much about this place. From being on television, reviews from prior guests. Loved the atmosphere and service from a waitress named, "Big Red" was excellent (5 out of 5). We got the hot brown fries (4 out of 5), Poor Boy...Burger (3 out of 5 cold), chicken breast 3.5 out of 5). I have to say I was not impressed with the quality of food overall. We will go back one more time in the future and try something else. We usually give restaurants two times (every place can have an off day). After that we'll typically never go back. This particular time, 3.0-3.5 OverallMore

Love the shakes. Had a vanilla shake and it is unlike anything else I have ever eaten. Had never had another one like it before and would be hard to find afterwards as well. However, their burgers are not recommended. Had a meatless burger and...a lex burger. It was nothing special. The french fries were tasteless and nothing special as well. Would only return for dessert.More

What a difference from what they use to have. Years ago the poor boy sandwiches were the best in Lexington. We ate there a few years ago and thought maybe by some miracle it would have gotten better. It has not gotten better. The poor...boys are a double hamburger with cheese and tomato and a thick slice of onion. The lettuce is shredded and mixed with mayo. They are very dry and tasteless. There is no toasted bun like the menu said. I would skip the poor boys and try something else or go somewhere else to eat. It is $5 for the burger only. The lady working the counter where we were sitting while we waited on our to go order was very loud. I thought she was also annoying as well.More

Traveling from IL to SC, we stopped here because it’s a Guy Fieri endorsed DDD (Diners, Drive-Ins, Dives) restaurant and were glad we did. My hubby ordered the chicken livers box, I ordered the chicken gizzards box, and our son ordered the pony keg burger....Everything we could eat was delicious noting my hubby and I were too full to try the yeast roll and gravy that were included in our boxes. The gizzards and livers were some of the best we had - crispy, juicy, and not overly greasy with yummy batter. The onion rings were also crispy, huge, and not overly greasy. The cole slaw was creamy with a little kick (perfect to offset the typical Mayo taste) - may be included a small amount of shredded radish? My son said the burger and tots were really good. This is comfort food, so if you’re looking for gourmet and/or healthy food, this isn’t the place for you. My only disappointment was that they only serve Pepsi products (I am a Coca-Cola girl from a Long line of Coca-Cola drinkers). My meal was not ruined because we had some Coca-Cola products in the car since we are traveling. For those interested in COVID protocols - we opted to eat in our car and ordered from the drive-up box (individual bays like Sonic Drive-Ins). The person that brought our food to the car was wearing a mask. The website indicates the dining room is open at 50% category.More

My husband's family has been familiar with this restaurant. After being married to him for 30 years; this was the first time I ate there. I'm going to assume that we were there on an off-day, as one of our family members' tater tots were...cold. Service was slow, and the server not exactly friendly. But, I am willing to give it a second chance, as I was just happier than a pig in mud to actually eat in a restaurant's dining room!More

we use to stop by Parkette's to eat on our trip from Cincinnati to lower Ky. first time in years last week what a disappointment, Mc donald's hamburgers are bigger than what they served and no ketchup or Mayo, a dry burger and one slice...of the butt end of a tomato with one ring of an onion a disgrace, onion rings only little onion rings and hard as a rock. my husband wanted one of their all great banana splits. well he was disappointed they use to have big yellow boats. filled to the rim with all fixings to a banana split. it was smaller than Diary Queen serves. ($4,39) Parkette's was $6.99 and messy. the building looks as if it has been taken care of in year's and the bay roof hasn't been painted,More

Nostalgic drive in restaurant. Service was fast and friendly, and all servers were wearing PPE since we are currently in the middle of a pandemic. Came here due to Guy Fieri's suggestion from Diner's Drive Ins and Dives, and were not disappointed!
