While initially worried this restaurant might be too far off the interstate, we were very impressed with their food and will definitely stop again! Their homemade salsa, guacamole and chips were amazing! I had a salad that had steak, chicken and shrimp and very flavorful! My husband had a barbacoa trio of tacos that he absolutely loved! It was worth the stop!

My granddaughter and I went there Friday evening 5/28/2021 and had probably the worst experience I’ve ever had at a sit down restaurant. First off I asked for a frozen margarita and it was not frozen. Our waiter disappeared and did not check back with us to see if things were okay and it took forever to even get the drink. We ran out of chips and salsa and more was only brought right before our dinners were brought. We had food to take home, he brings us two containers and the bill and before I could even put my food away stood at the table and asked if I could go ahead and pay the bill while he was there. We felt rushed and that he simply wanted his tip money. He could have cared less about our experience. The manager came around during the time we were eating and talked to the other two tables in that area but not us. I wish he had. Our waiter was beyond rude, and definitely did not care about us at all. I will never go back!

I’ve been to el toro many times and they always have very quick service. The waiters are very good about visiting back to the table many times. Also the food is good Mexican cuisine that is priced very reasonably. Overall I would recommend el toro!

This is for the location just off Michigan by the Embassy Suites/Costco/McAlister's Deli. With so many nearby Mexican themed restaurants we decided to go to the nearest one to our location. It must have been fairly new because I couldn't find it listed anywhere. Luckily we pulled into our motel parking lot the wrong way and happened to drive by it. It did not disappoint. It was fast. The waitress was helpful. The price was reasonable. The selection was large. The food was good. It was near our hotel. The place was clean. I'm not sure what else would be needed. Nice job El Toro.

After hearing several poor reviews and avoiding this place like the plague, I decided to get outside of the box and take the plunge. I will NOT eat here again. I rarely give only 1 star ratings but this one deserves it. Food quality is poor. I got take out and when I got home, the burrito bowl I got was missing about 5 items. When I called stating I had missing items they suggested I come back just for the missing items. I said I wanted the whole thing remade the correct way because they serve them in metal tins and I couldn’t warm it up in the microwave. After arguing back and forth about it, they asked me to bring it back. Gladly! I drove 10 minutes back and they had all of the items in separate cups. Odd. And when I got home and opened those items up, they gave me about 25% of what originally came in the bowl to begin with. Pretty upset and frustrated. Rice was salty. Chicken was tough and dried out. Just yuck.

A friend and I ate dinner at El Toro. My friend had the taco salad with a side of grilled shrimp and I chose the loco burrito. We both thought that our meal was very good and the price was very reasonable.

The good things first: The value here is very good -- a lot of food for your buck. On the table, which is traditional, or in a bag of takeout -- which some places do NOT do -- El Toro puts a large quantity of tortilla chips and fresh salsa. Recently, there has been a BIG improvement in the amount of salt used in the kitchen -- as in, they've decreased it. We tried this place for one sit down meal, then one takeout experience, back in late 2016, and the meat (carnitas twice, some carne asada, some pulled chicken) in every dish ordered was either too salty or WAY too salty. So, besides a few takeout chile poblanos in 2017, we didn't bother with El Toro. Have they gotten a new (better!) chef who cooks the meat? Several months ago a friend reported that the El Toro food was FINALLY not too salty, so we tried takeout again, and both the carnitas ordered as well as the pulled chicken (in a little red sauce) were just fine! Very, very big improvement in food tastes, even for salt lovers. So, we've gotten a few more takeout orders since, and gone to have a sit-down, as well, during the more quiet hours. Much better food, overall. In recent months we've tried their Chile Poblano, Chile Relleno, a plate with tacos, rice, and beans, a carnitas dinner, a carne asada dinner, as well as a few taco bowls, and a burrito bowl. Again, the value is very good -- lots of food. The taco and burrito bowls made for a big lunch, even for hearty eaters. Needs improvement: the refried beans, which have been dry -- Every. Single. Time. Takeout bowls with dry, cool, beans mean it's a disappointment at home, being too difficult to nuke up -- they're topped with fresh veggies. We'll try to remember to order frijoles negros -- black beans -- next time, and see if these are any better. And, on-site the beans were dry as well as NOT hot enough by any means. This is not unexpected with takeout Mexican, but on site? ... Meh ... The few shreds of cheese on top of the beans were barely softened, much less melted. And, the rice wasn't hot, either. All disappointingly tepid, even cool. Ick. Do they prep plates with these two sides and let them sit, waiting for the primary food item? -- the taco, carne asada or carnitas, or chile? It was interesting that during our sit-down visits the waiter did NOT place the plate down and warn, "Careful -- the plate is very hot." We didn't hear this, and it sure wasn't needed -- the plates were warm, at best. The "Hot plate!" warning is standard instruction in virtually every Mexican food restaurant ever visited, coast to coast USA, because a very hot plate is necessary to make the beans and rice taste good; when cooled, neither is very appetizing to anyone over the age of eight (approx.). The other ingredients in a taco or burrito bowl were okay -- the diced tomatoes and guacamole a bit tired, and during summer months, when there's a wealth of very fresh tomatoes and avocados available, this is surprising. (Might have just been the last bits of food prepped hours prior.) But the lettuce, as well as the crema (sour cream), and cheese shreds were fresh, and their tomato salsa, while a bit bland for fans of heat, is consistently tasty, albeit -- you guessed it -- well-salted. With the chicken, carnitas, and carne asada finally tasting good without a heap of salt cooked in, it's safe to say that this is a pretty good source for one's cravings for Mexican food. The place is too noisy when a lot of people are there (as has been stated in other reviews), however, that's subjective -- we've gotten old enough to desire more peace than a party atmosphere. The margaritas are okay; nothing really great -- but the beers are cold and fresh, so we choose that if an adult drink is wanted. The wait staff is still a bit inconsistent, however, the people who stay up front to help manage takeout orders and ringing up have been friendly, attentive, and helpful.

We came for a late lunch after a soccer game after recommendations from teammates. So glad we came. Food was fresh and excellent. Tortillas were warm and really tasty. Staff very friendly and attentive. In the words of my teenage son "I'd definitely come back".

Stopped for dinner. Not real busy. Servers standing around. Service to table was just ok. We had to locate server serval times to get refills and additional salsa and chips. Food was average. Some of the food looked to be warmed over, not fresh. RIce and beans appeared real dry and not real tasty. Nachos chicken fajita had more chips than chicken and veggies. Place needs to step up its game. Food and service could be better. Place was clean. Parking close.

The food is good, they have outdoor seating in the warm weather, what more can you ask for! Good margaritas, and a fairly large selection of entrees. They also support the local community student athletes by participating in different programs.
