One of my favorite restaurants in the Fort. Food is always consistent, this Halls has the best menu for sure as well. I eat here quite often, and did this weekend for lunch with my married daughter. We both love the crab cake appetizer which is the price of an entree and our favorite salad is the large beef tenderloin salad. Our only issue is they used to split these for us no problem and we asked for that to be done. The waitress said the kitchen doesn’t split salads and I mentioned they have and should. Especially I would think during a pandemic they would not make the customer touch another persons food and is quite difficult to do at the table. The food came out not split and the waitress said again the kitchen won’t split the food but here’s an extra plate and you can do it yourself. No appropriate service-ware was supplied for us to split it safely and we didn’t want to use our used forks so I asked for something clean to be brought out. Which she then went and got us two clean small forks, which was very hard to use on a large salad. My daughter may be in my small pod of people I’m comfortable being around but we don’t live in the same household. Let me add the restaurant was not busy, it’s not asking for something free or extra, it’s just a matter of customer service. We spent an appropriate amount for the two dishes and over tipped because of the pandemic. It’s not really that hard to plate an entree especially one that’s not hot on two plates ...

We drove an hour and a half from Ohio on a beautiful day and the visit couldn't have been better! Friendly hostesses greeted us, gave us a pager and told us it would be an hour wait. We grabbed drinks and had the best seat in a large area with lots of seats and shade. We watched a party boat come in and several kayakers go by. The bartender who got our drinks acknowledged me right away, even though the bar was full and someone was standing in front of me. Excellent service! Our pager went off in 48 minutes, less than the hour they said. Jodi was our server and she did a great job greeting us, bringing us waters without asking if we wanted them, getting us another drink, and making sure everything was fine. We enjoyed a Fried Chicken Cobb Salad ($12.50) and a Chicken Club Sandwich ($12.50). WE took a nice-sized piece of German Chocolate cake home ($4.50). Chardonnay's were $8.00 but they were a very generous pour. An all-around great visit.

The ambiance of The Gas House since it's remodel several years ago is still a refreshing change for a Fort Wayne native. The meal offers many traditional favorites with a few things to "add flare." Our service Saturday night was not up to the usual standards, but we had a late reservation and I think they were prepared to close up the restaurant. The food was wonderful, as always, but our server was not very present. There were several times we asked for simple things like more water, or a condiment, and she seemed to have disappeared (only to see her to see her leaning against the wall by the bar). As a former server I remember how exhausting late nights were, but what was insulting was when after forgetting us she rushed us to finish so she could "cash out." If the restaurant didn't want to honor an 8:30 reservation than they shouldn't have been rushing us to leave at 9:20.

I had a meal here a few years ago, so I decided to try the Deck instead of the regular restaurant. I was seated quickly and was given a beer list. Problem is, my first three or four choices were out of stock! I finally had a Rhinegeist (brew out of Cincinnati) which I am familiar with. I was told the drafts are very low because of the warm weather. It was only in the 70s, so I can’t imagine how bad it is during the middle of summer! Why even have a deck? I ended up ordering a sandwich which was overpriced, small, and mediocre. Service was also spotty at this point, almost as if I didn’t exist. On top of that, it rained lightly, and with no umbrella, it was a bit annoying. The seating is next to the St. Mary’s River, so be prepared for various insects and leaves coming your way. The setting (minus the insects) is certainly there, but the rest needs work. I tried to grade on a curve because it hadn’t been reopened for very long, but they’re clearly not ready.

We enjoyed great weather and remarkable food at The Deck during the last day of the 3 river festival. The Urban Cowboy burger and the Portabella Sandwich were outstanding! Make sure to try their cole slaw (It's not common to find cole slaw this good)! Their Purple Haze drink is also worth trying. The casual atmosphere under shade trees overlooking the river was relaxing and our server (Jade) was prompt and fun! Next time we are in Ft. Wayne, we will return to The Deck.

This is a great place to eat. It is an interesting location with different choices . The outside deck is fabulous, unfortunately too cold yesterday. The food is decently priced, comes in big portions, the bread was fabulous coming fresh from the oven. The fries were super fresh. For sure going back when in the area.

While visiting with friends we enjoyed our dinner here. We called well in advance to book our large group and they accommodated us with reserved parking for our show vehicles, options for dining and were able to get us all in and seated in groups of 6. We were able to enjoy drinks on the deck, cool off by the River or in the shade under an umbrella. Everyone had a great experience and enjoyed their meal be it Japanese, American etc… everything was delicious. Adalynn was our server who provided excellent, fast and friendly service!

I went with friends on a Saturday evening to the Gas House for dinner before a concert downtown. The waiter was excellent throughout the visit. Unfortunately, the food wasn't. The Gas House promotes its prime rib as their Famous Gas House Prime Rib. I ordered medium done. When it came to me. It was medium but it was also room temperature and chewy. The plate was warmed but it wasn't. It was also half fat. I know prime rib is a fattier cut of meat, but half fat is unacceptable. I also have a problem with a steak house that doesn't give you a bake potato as a choice. I did get the hash browns & onions and a tossed salad. At least the hash browns & onions were hot, and the salad was cold. I asked my friend about their prime rib, and she also said that her steak was barely warm. My mixed drink was good. I don't know what happened because my previous review rated them excellent.

After having moved from Fort Wayne many years ago, I was excited to make The Gas House a visit highlight just this afternoon. Oh boy, what an incredible disappointment and letdown. We arrived early, just after 11:00, so the restaurant was not busy. Our waitress was friendly, helpful, and quick to take our orders. So far so good! As we waited for our lunches to arrive, a really suspicious odor began wafting around the dining room, a scent of urine coming from the bathroom area. It was very unpleasant to say the least. Our food arrived quickly, but unfortunately in poor condition. The order was for a simple chicken salad, and the only component which needed the chef's attention, was the cooking of the chicken. It was raw. Not a little raw, it was horrendously raw. The waitress was obviously embarrassed, but not the chef who made no effort to apologize, approach us with an alternative, or in any way acknowledge what had happened. This is not the fort Wayne I grew up in. There was pride in what happened here and people did their best at their jobs. The Gas House, serving potentially dangerous raw chicken without apology, is heartbreaking.

It doesn’t surprise that The Deck at the Gas House is fantastic. It’s Don Hall’s after all. We had a group of a dozen during the festival and they could not have been more accommodating. The food was great (we had filet sliders, crab cakes and spinach/artichoke dip) and the entrees were wonderful. I had Heather’s salad with shrimp; everything was cooked perfectly. The service, despite how busy they were, could not have been better.

When my wife and I first ate here, and even the second and third time, we had a great experience and determined to go back whenever we came to Ft. Wayne. We did the same this time and changed our minds after practically everything we ordered was tasteless. My steak was undercooked, flavorless and was sent back, and should have been sent back a second time. The french fries, which used to be a treat unto themselves were equally tasteless. The onions and mushrooms were sauteed by themselves so had no flavoring either. I was so disappointed, as was my wife, that we vowed that this was our last time for "The Old Gas House". And it used to be my favorite place to visit. Sorry to say, not anymore. It seems spices have become too expensive I'm assuming, or the cook had a memory lapse. And that is too bad.

Everything we ordered was perfect. My husband had a Reuben Sandwich and it was awesome. I had Surf and Turf and normally when I order medium rare it’s over cooked. This was cooked exactly how MR should be. We tried the Filet Sliders for an appetizer and they were great, would get them again. Love a place where you can order steak and lobster or just a sandwich and it’s all great. If your looking for a relaxing place with great food you should try this place. If we ever come back to Fort Wayne, Indiana we will come bac.

Everything was tasting great until I had this huge nasty chunk of lettuce in my burrito. It’s like seriously? How stupid can you be to put something like this in the burrito. Hey chefs/cooks how about don’t put anything in it that YOU wouldn’t eat yourself. Disappointing.

The food is amazing!!! I had The Potato and Vegetable Plate, which I chose Creamed Spinach, Asparagus with Hollandaise Sauce and Sauté Sweet Potatoes. The Potato Soup was off the charts!!! The bread for the table was perfect! I have not had this perfect of a meal for a long time. Staff is friendly and warm, well informed about the menu. We took a walk around the property to The Deck, which was on the bank of the river. There was a bad storm a few hours prior so things were closed. It looked like they had Booze Boats? Extremely welcoming setting, beer garden and very welcoming outdoor setting. I don’t drink, but I was enjoying the view. My husband had the brisket sandwich and Mac and cheese and enjoyed them very much. If you are ever in the area this establishment is a must stop!!!! You will not be disappointed!

Grant was patient and made my food the way I wanted it. Steak was seasoned well and made the way I ordered it. House salad was good and wings were crispy and tasty. The macaroni and cheese was over cooked but it didn’t ruin my experience. My coworker enjoyed his meal also.
