We’ve had carry out from here but haven’t eaten in the restaurant in years. Our waiter was professional, non intrusive, helpful and probably the best waiter I’ve had in years.
The food wasn’t as good as our last takeout experience….. the chicken with peppers was overpepppered and although usually spicy, this was way too peppery. The pasta side was blander than usual. The chicken parm was very good. Also suffered from limp sauce.
The seafood linguine was excellent with generous seafood on pasta. The drinks were strong and well made. Overall an excellent dinner at a high price. Had the food been as good as usual I’d have given five stars.

Food was excellent, superior service, slight fail on smaller steak options, smallest ribeye is 32 oz, would prefer 16-20 oz. Garlic mashed potatoes were great. Definitely on the pricey side, but no disappointments.

Food is expensive which is ok if quality is top notch.
Unfortunately that was not the case.
My wife had the chop steak and ordered well done.
Her food came rare which was amazing since so far from how ordered.
The cottage fries were bland and soggy.
The redeeming dish was the peppermint ice cream for dessert.
Service was ok but nothing special.
We won't be back and for the money would recommend other steak houses
such as Morton's, Gibson's you name it.

This wasn’t the EJ’s Place that it used to be. The waiter was running back and forth, but was actually brusk and inattentive. We were a party of 8, and after taking 2 of our orders, he went to another table to take their order before completing ours. Needed to request water without ice 3 times. Needed to request new steak knife, as the one my mom was given didn’t cut. Turned out it was a tough Filet Mignon, not the knife! Another steak came Well Done when it was ordered Medium Rare, and 2 waiters actually bent over the plate to cut into the steak before taking it back. Ugh! Finally, we asked how the whitefish was prepared, but he neglected to say it would be swimming in butter and oil. The guest pushed it away and NEVER touched it, and not once did the waiter ask if there was a problem. By that time the dinner was so awful, it wasn’t worth making a fuss. Thank goodness the conversation was great, but we won’t be returning to EJ’s

Excellent experience. I have not been here since before the pandemic and had heard it might not be as special as before. Our dinner was special and the service was excellent.
That noted, from the friendly and engaging host getting us a table in front of the fireplace to a great wait staff, service was top notch while the food certainly did not disappoint.
My dining companion and I both had the sea bass with sides of the peas and onions and garlic mash potatoes.
Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly with an unpretentious and appealing presentation.
We will definitely be back much sooner than our last visit.

COVID abbreviated menu. Seating was expanded to a tent in the lot which worked very well. Chicken and Peppers was delicious. Chicken parmigiana was fantastic. Meat dishes looked awesome, Of course. Service was attentive as usual. Very pricey but quality is worth it.

Not sure how they stay in business with their prices at Old Orchard! Good, but way over priced! Service is average and ambiance is middle of the road....

So - take this with a grain of salt. <grin> EJ's is a 2nd generation Chicago steakhouse from the family that created Gene & Georgetti's. It's a different vibe given that it's in the 'burbs, but like Chicago itself - this is a lively, energetic place to get a GREAT meal.
The steaks are all excellent - they are also not -ahem- small. In our group, the leftovers are fought-over for making hash! In fact, all of the portions are family-generous. The ChickenPeppers is amazing. Really - I have yet to have a bad meal here.
I do not doubt anyone who has said their night at EJ's was less than perfect, It's a large restaurant and deals with the same problems any large, successful eatery will encounter. My experience - with and without family has been superb. Especially the service - our primary server and the team supporting him was equal to the food. Want an extra green olive - done! In a flash! Want to take your time - and enjoy every bite, just say so.
My biggest challenge is saving room for deserts - and winning at "Paper, Scissors, Rock" for everything that we could not finish.
Definitely recommend you take at least one meal here!

The chicken was a bit dry for one of us but the abundance of peppers in oil helped dramatically. Those peppers were delicious and with a few noodles could be dinner! Fried potato crisps were also very good as were the mushrooms. The bad news was the salad.... forgettable oil and vinegar and essentially nothing but iceberg lettuce and a tomato wedge. The bread wasn’t memorable either.
One order was more than enough for two..... prices are high and it’s an above average old school style restaurant.

Steaks were perfect but, for heavens sake get proper Steak Knives!!! We could barely cut our steaks as the knives were no better than the white plastic ones you get in fast food places. For the price we paid you'd think the owner would buy some good Steak Knives!

Convenient meeting place for couples from Highland Park and Chicago. I shall report about couple A. Our entree selections were the the bar b q chicken and the veal limone. Each meal was accompanied with a house salad and house fries. The bar b q chicken was dleicious. The salads were so so. I would have preferred a more flavoable dressing and perhaps a bit of parmesan and a few croutons. The house fries were served family style and devoured. The veal had two problems. First, the sauce was dark and looked and tasted like marsala, except there were no mushrooms. Second I actually needed a knife to cut one of the pieces of veal. I love veal and normally cut the scallopini with my fork.

We enjoyed a fabulous business dinner at EJ’s Place. There were over fifteen in our party and the service was good and efficient. Most folks ordered steaks and I didn’t hear any complaints. My Filet was cooked medium rare and paired well with the Prisoner (a Napa Valley Blend).

EJ's is kind of an old fashioned Italian/Steakhouse. Very good food and excellent service and the portions are enormous. My wife had Chicken Vesuvio and took home enough for two more meals and I had the Strip steak, also enough for an additional meal.

Expensive food that was OK and served a la carte. No vegetables or potatoes included, just the steak. Atmosphere is romantic. Nice place for a special occasion, not weekly dinner date. Cocktails are small for the price.
