A great place for a quick meal. A simple but good menu for everyone. It has the feeling of a chain fast food place. The food was good and the price was right. Lots of parking and the service was good.

We had a taste for tacos, so since we hadn't been at El Carrito for awhile, we thought we would return. We were not disappointed. The restaurant is simple, clean and well-kept. The decor does evoke to Mexican street food. You order at the counter where there is a huge menu above you and it will help you decide on anything you want. Once you order and pay, pick up your sodas at the fountain machine and have a seat. Depending on how busy they are, they will even bring it to you. They bring chips and salsa to the table. We ordered mole fries which are really thick cut sidewinder fries topped with Mole sauce, sour cream, Chihuahua cheese and cilantro. We also ordered three different tacos, including a carne asada, a carnitas and a shrimp. We chose one larger entree - a Southwest salad with chicken. Everything was great. I do have two suggestions though, first, offer ground beef as an option for meats. And the second is the elotes or corn, besides one in a cup, offer it on the cob. The staff is very friendly.

We swear by this place. Its like having street food in Mexico (but clean!) Tacos al Pastor y Barbacoa are excellent and the elotes in a Cup are also excellent (corn, mayo, lime, cotija cheese and cilantro), just like in Mexico.

To think, I almost didn't think to order from them via ubereats.
There's a few good spots around Rogers Park but this one is close to taking the crown. I got a carne asada torts, my boyfriend got a burrito. So. Delicious.
My only gripe is that they need a littleeee more cheese in the elote (I grew up around street vendors and am obsessed with elote). Other than that, I know where I'll be going from now on.

You wouldn't think that the little place in the little strip mall would hide such a great little gem. First of all, the decor was really cute. I loved it. Simple, unassuming and bold all at the same time. I think that describes the food too! There were four of us and we had a little of everything: Quesadillas, Tacos, Burrito and Torta. Everyone loved their food. There were lots of treats, some more like traditional street fare and others with a more modern spin. The hot sauce had an interesting twist (citrus?) that everyone liked as well. Staff was friendly and helpful. I had lots of questions and they were all very nice. Prices very reasonable. Good for couples, families, friends - everyone. It is BYOB so if you would like a drink, be sure to bring your own or stop at the Foremost Liquors right next door! That was handy! I would recommend for an easy, chill night out! I was eyeing the pic of the friend ice cream the whole dinner but in the end, I did not have any room left. I will have to go back to try it!

I've been to this restaurant a number of time and finally decided to post. Service is always friendly and helpful. The menu offers many traditional items but some unique items as well. I haven't had an item that I haven't enjoyed. Civeche is very good! Homemade tamales on the weekends!

I can't even give this restaurant one star. The staffs' unprofessional is inexcusable. It is the establishment's responsibility to follow through with an order, regardless how an order was messed up. The appropriate response to a GRUBHUB miscommunication that caused my dinner to be delayed for 2 hours is, "I am sorry, we will get you your order as soon as we can." Which was never offered. I even got a call back 15 minutes later just to tell me that Grubhub was down, which is why they had not delivered my dinner. In that time, they could have rectified the situation by making and delivering my dinner promptly.

Everything from the service, atmosphere, pricing, menu, and of course the food, was outstanding. Chicago does not lack for taqurias, or mom and pop burrito joints, and most of them are good in their own right. But these guys have opened up a destination place, that I predict will soon have lines out the door. A great place for couples, families, groups , delivery or carry-out. With the well stocked Foremost liquors next door, your able to enjoy craft beers and ciders, wine, or your favorite cocktail on your budget, as this is a BYOB location. The homade salsa and tortillas are as fine as any fine downtown mexican restaurant, but reminds you of a Maxwell Street Market experience without having to wait until Sunday. The Chicken Tortilla soup, is creamy and zesty. The Mole Fries are the best, and I dont take a second look for french fries in a mexican restaurant. The Carne Asada Torta is a favorite, as is the Tinga Burito, shredded chicken with tomato, cilantro, onion Adobo sauce, with a touch of sour cream. Catering is available, and lunch specials are offered Monday - Friday 11 - 3,with prices from $9 -$5.Average price for dinner, under $10. Convienetly locted at the intersection of Peterson and Lincoln with plenty of parking. At least for now, until this hidden gem is discovered.

The restaurant bills itself as a place for "Mexican street cart" food. I have found some rather interesting tastes in Chicago's Pilsen area. What El Carrito does is to bring some of these tastes together in a restaurant. We tried the burrito, which was huge, and it was quite tasty. We also tried a pambazo which was a daily special. It packed some serious heat. They also have an appetizer - elotes in a cup. If you are a fan of corn on the cob with mayo done the way street vendors offer it - look no more. A modern looking, clean restaurant with friendly staff, you order at the counter and Stephaine was very nice and helpful.
