My wife selected Gianni’s as at that time when she checked, it was rated #3 in Mt. Dora. We had reservations but we were hungry so we took a chance and arrived early. Josh greeted us and said there would be no problem. We requested...to sit out side. Josh would be our server. He was very courteous and pleasant. He seemed to enjoy his job. He proved knowledgeable about the food and was helpful with suggestions. My wife ordered the chef’s specialty, Sacchaettini. Josh highly recommended it as it was his favorite. I ordered the Linguini Fra Diavola (with mussels). Our salads were fresh and tasty. The bread was airy and flavorful. Our entrees were served promptly and piping hot. My wife just rolled her eyes with her first taste. She shared a bite with me. The flavor was extraordinary. The sauce was velvety and the pasta was perfectly el dente. It had wonderful flavor profile. I knew I had just tasted something very special that only this chef could create because he knew the special combination of flavors incorporated in this delightful dish. My mussels were fresh, meaty and tender. The pasta again cooked perfectly el dente as it should. The tomato based sauce had a very nice consistency that comes from using crushed tomatoes. It did bring the heat with flakes of red pepper blended in the sauce. Josh was attentive but not intrusive. Josh’s final suggestion was best. He suggested we try the Tiramisu. It was the chef’s grandmother’s recipe. So we tried la Nonna’s tiramisu. It was like eating sweet clouds, so very soft and airy. Josh told me privately that the chef’s grandmother passed away in 2020 in Italy, her grandson could not see her before she passed because of Covid lockdowns prohibited travel to Italy. This is indeed a special dessert and a worthy tribute from a grandson to his Nonna. I took note that the chef was trained in an Italian culinary school. I tasted what he learned from his grandmother.More
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Café Gianni. Our waiter, Josh, was extremely helpful, informative, personable and prompt. My husband had the Linguini Fra Diavola with Mussels and I had the house specialty, Sacchettini, purse-shaped pasta stuffed with four Italian cheeses and...fresh pear served with shrimp in a light wine sauce. Words cannot describe this taste sensation. Josh made sure he brought a spoon with my meal so that I could enjoy every drop of the sauce. My husband and I shared an incredibly light tiramisu for dessert after Josh informed us that this was the recipe of Chef Gianni’s Nonna from Italy. The food was reasonably priced also.More
Parked in a legal parking spot in front of the Cafe Gianni restaurant and a waiter comes out to inform me that the spot is 'reserved'. I scanned the spot and asked where it said that it was reserved and the waiter stated that it...is unofficially the spot reserved for the chef and I had to move the car. Nope - will NEVER solicit this place with this attitude.More
We've visit Cafe Gianni nearly every visit to Mt. Dora. The food is predictably well prepared. The menu offers variety and specials enhance the choices. On this visit Chef Gianni and his team were overly accomodating and attentive. The wine list is well developed and...priced fairly. Great value in a relaxing atmosphere.More
Cafe Gianni’s never disappoints! Chef Gianni always comes by and checks to make sure everything is perfect! The food is excellent. This is worth the visit when you are in Mt. Dora. Servers were excellent! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I must admit Gianni's was not our first choice but as the saying goes "everything happens for the best" Gianni's was excellent. there were 6 of us and we all raved about how delicious our meals were. Gianni came to our table to make sure...everything was to our liking. Gianni's will definitely be our first choice next timeMore
This is a small restaurant tucked on the side street in Mount Dora. We were in on a Saturday night and they managed to seat our table of 6 outside. They started us with some grilled bread coated with garlic and olive oil. After 3...plates we decided that although that was great we were not going to finish dinner if we continued putting away the bread. The table ordered vodka penne with chicken, rigatoni bolognese, penne shrimp piano, and Rigatoni Amatriciana. We had a few duplicates and no complaints. The pasta was perfectly cooked al dente. What we brought home for Sunday leftovers I ate in the kitchen cold after we got home. I was not hungry so opted for their Signature Sacchettini Pasta dish of pear stuffed pasta and shrimp. Neither of which I am a fan of but I wanted to try something different. It turned out to be the most amazing pasta dish I have ever had. I could ever have thought that conspiring to put pear and cheese in a pasta with shrimp would ever work. I ended up sharing a good portion of my meal with my wife. Purse shaped pasta--never seen that before or had pasta cooked stuffed with pears and cheese. I cannot identify the spices that were in the pear but they were perfectly balanced. Great job. We did not stay for desserts as we had already planned that for someplace else. Not a very wide menu so check it out before you go. I think this is the first Italian restaurant we have been to that did NOT have calamari on the menu. Their menu is not very big but they hit the dishes out of the park. I'm already trying to talk my wife into meeting another set of friends their Saturday night. It is in Mount Dora so parking is extremely limited but that should not deter you from trying this great place.More
First of all, amazing service!!! We arrived without a reservation just before the dinner rush and they were kind enough to accommodate us. The food was outstanding and very fresh. We had the Mussels Marinara, Linguini Vongole, Ossobuco, and Tiramisu... everything was delicious and perfectly...cooked. Definitely some of the best mussels I've ever had. They also have a great wine selection. Our server was very friendly and super attentive. We'll be back for sure!More
Hmmm, strange how the reviews are all over the place. I had a great server with Chris, prompt service, a wine list, house wine is fine, and the signature dish, can’t spell it, but was fabulous. Pasta pockets stuffed with four cheeses and fresh pear,...about 10-12 good size medium shrimp (peeled, didn’t have to mess with peeling them,) and a light cream sauce. Toasted bread with an oil drizzle sopped up the last of the sauce. It was all so good, I didn’t want it to stop, so I had the Tiramisu, the house signature dessert, yum-oh, as good as the pasta and shrimp. I thought it was great and would definitely go back when in town.More
