We had an excellent dinner one evening including the best steam clams we've ever had and a great waiter so we decided to return for lunch a couple of days later. After standing and waiting to be seated for 5-10 minutes with at least 2 employees seeing us and not acknowledging us, we left - they weren't even busy. What a shame - ended up going to their competitor next door. I guess they didn't need the business.

My daughter and I ate here after a drive on the 7 mile bridge on Wednesday afternoon. The restaurant was pretty busy which was nice to see. Having had issues with finding gluten free menu options in the Keys I asked to speak to the manager. She was not 100% familiar with what is gluten free and what’s not. After 8 years of experience with this fortunately I am. However, she worked with us to make three sushi rolls for us being very careful about cross contamination which she definitely understood. We ordered a salmon/tuna/cream cheese roll, lobster roll and triple tuna roll. The tuna roll was our favorite. Very fresh, extremely high quality tuna. I actually make sushi at home and this was delicious. They substitute Bragg Liquid Aminos for the soy sauce. Service was excellent. We ate inside as it was very hot outside. I didn’t realize it was happy hour and when the bill came two of our rolls were only $7 each! All the customers were having a great time. Restaurant was very clean. Excellent price. The regular menu price of $12 seemed very fair. Wish we could have stayed longer. Will definitely return as soon as possible!

Very fun place with cool decor and good service. Thursday nite at 5pm there was a 45 minutes wait so we ate at the bar which was a good choice. BF had bacon wrapped scallops and I had grilled snapper- both main courses were fresh and exceptional! It’s too bad they don’t use fresh veggies though- they served frozen broccoli & cauliflower that was actually over cooked and the rice was just ok. I would recommend this place for alacarte orders and fun dining with friends. Average-higher prices for the area.

My brother who lives in Key West recommended Castaways for a “nice” vacation dinner and raved about the sushi. At least he was right about the sushi!
Due to the high ratings on this site I booked a reservation earlier in the day for an “outside table”. It started sprinkling just before we arrived. Not being familiar with the restaurant we had no way of knowing if the outside seating would be covered or not. The host sat us at a row of tables that was not covered and didn’t even acknowledge the weather. One area of the outside seating was covered and above our table there was an awning that had not been extended to cover our table or our neighboring tables which were also occupied. When the server appeared we asked her about extending the awning and she said it was broken but made absolutely no offer to move us indoors. In hindsight we should have left but the rain was more of an on/off mist so we stayed. We continued to get rained on throughout the meal in which the sushi was the only highlight, my entrée was so bad I sent it back, as we watched the other frustrated customers leave around us. At the very end of our meal another server from a different table asked us if we would like to move to one of the table under the awning, FINALLY! We thanked her and moved to dry land to enjoy the last of our wine.
This ranks very low in overall dining experiences. I’m only giving it a “poor” instead of a “terrible” thanks to the sushi. So if you go bring an umbrella and stick with the sushi.

This has got to be one of the worst dining experiences I have had in a long time. The service was bad and so was the food what we had of it anyway. We ordered appetizers finally after our server passing by our table on several occasions and not even acknowledging we were there I am takin if like 20 times and 30 min. Then They took forever and were cold when we got them and really not worth even talking about. Then we ordered entrees
And after 90 minutes of total and complete attention we flagged our server down and told her to just cancel our order. By this time we are all to frustrated to even enjoy our dinner. We did see what I think was the owner ( John) I overheard someone say... setting at the bar laughing it up with out a card in the world of how bad his food and service is !!!

My family was enjoying a great day in Marathon and went to Castaways for their happy hour. Just over an hour into our reservation, we heard the wait staff talk to a potential customer who did not have a reservation in which the customer wanted to talk to the owner. Apparently, they were friends with him. The owner reviewed his floor plan and enquired how long we had been there.
Its a long story but in the end, the owner stated we had been there long enough and asked us to leave. I have never experienced an owner with such an attitude.
With exception to the tunanachos, the food is mediocre and you have to review your bill to ensure your getting the right price. Beers advertised at 2.50 were charged at 4.00.
The service is slow with long wait times for the food and beverages. The restaurant is not at full capacity due to coronavirus but act as if they are.
I have been a chef for over thirty years and would recommend Key Fisheries for better flavor and definitely much more appreciative owners.
In the end, Castaways and the owners will never see another dollar from me, my family or friends who come to Marathon for fun and sun

Its easier to say what went right, rather than the issues we encountered. Now, I've had some great meals here in the 9+ years I've been coming in, but this last trip was so frustrating, based on what it was and what its become. First, the servers have a severe deficit in knowing their own menu and what's out of stock that evening. The initial visit by our server took 7 minutes and the restaurant wasn't that busy. Then, erratic beverage service and the chutzpah to charge $14 for a 1.5 oz pour of Sake was infuriating. The food came out in erratic fits and spurts, like the kitchen expediter was MIA or they just weren't coordinating with the servers. We had no more than taken a bite of our apps when some, but not all, entrees arrived. By the time we had all our food on the table, it was like a minefield because nobody the empty dishes from the table. After the Sake debacle I ended up ordering a beer, which took 9 minutes to make the journey of 25 feet from the bar to our table. And if you want a refill you have to flag down your server, rather than them being proactive and attentive, Given the Meh attitude, you have to wonder how they're being compensated. Having a discussion with the manager was futile because she immediately made it about her, rather than listening and thinking how it could be better. This is a gold mine for a decent consultant to come in and straighten things out because the underlying food is pretty good. I will come back, but not this trip..

The oyster dinner was $24 on the menu. It had eight small oysters, the side of red potatoes had only TWO small potatoes and a side of onion rings. When the check came it was 26.99!!!! When I questioned the server she said it must be an up charge for getting onion rings. I said no they were not listed for an up charge! Prices are outrageous for the small quantity of food. Plus we didn’t even have a water view. Don’t waste your money! Go somewhere else!

The hogfish was delicious and the location was pretty cool. It was a nice surprise to be visited by a family of manatees while waiting for our food.
But for a $40 plate, I’d expect a lot more than boiled frozen package vegetables and a small undercooked potato. The fish was good but everything else was terrible. I’d be upset if I paid $20. It’s too bad they didn’t acknowledge my comments. I’ve read similar comments as mine in here.

Yes, the sushi here is amazing, but I had to post this because as a local I'm very disappointed. We supported this restaurant through the pandemic by getting carry out. Now that they're busy with tourists they do not answer their phone for carry out orders. Also, the prices on their website do not reflect the actual prices. I was astonished to see the receipt when my husband got home. Everything was at least $3-$4 more than usual...obviously jacked up for the tourists. In addition, they included gratuity on a carry out order (not normal for a carry out). My husband was not paying attention and assumed he needed to tip (as we always do) and gave another 20% on top of that. You'd think someone would mention to him that there was already gratuity included but they did not. Sad to say I will not be giving them my hard earned money anymore. We work hard to be able to afford to live here and don't have the luxury of going out a lot, so when we choose a local restaurant to get food from and this happens, it's extremely discouraging!

We have eaten several places while on vacation in the Keys and this by far was the worst one and we wanted to enjoy it so much! Captains platter was ok but the fish was very bland, the lobster stuffed with crab and topped with lobster was mediocre at best $42 (the lobster was very tough) My daughter didn’t eat two bites of the wreckdiver chicken because it was so sour. I’ve had it before other places but this was over the top lemony/capers $24. My husband enjoyed the raw oysters. Service was pretty good, but we’ve actually had better. Hate that we didn’t enjoy it as much as we were hoping to. Even though the waitress asked if my daughter liked her food and she said no, she didn’t offer to bring her another dish or take it off our bill. And no we don’t complain about our meals and we don’t care to pay $$$ for a dinner that we enjoy. We actually own a few restaurants so we understand that sometimes you can just get a dish that you don’t like. However, we want our customers to return so if they’re not happy, then we would offer them something they’d enjoy. That’s just good business. It’s worth the $24 to take it off our bill and for us to come back. Total bill was $120.40.
Now FL Steak and Lobster House up the road is AMAZING!! A little pricey but worth every penny!

We ate at Castaways on the recommendation of a yacht staff member who travels through Marathon frequently. Thinking he likely knows good fish we followed his recommendation and were not disappointed. Pick your fish and the preparation. I had snapper with Mazatlan preparation and it was amazing.

We went here with our Family for New Years Eve Dinner for Sushi, we were not disappointed. Service was great and the different selection of Sushi was unreal, we ordered the LionHead Sushi, which actually has the Lion Head Fish on the front of it, the presentation was amazing. We will be back again next time we are in Marathon!

My wife and I were visiting relatives and they told us about the happy hour at many restaurant/bars in Marathon- half price for certain drinks and food, so we went here. It was a fun, lively place and we had very good service. Many drinks were discounted, plus the wings and sushi were also discounted. I got a beer and my wife got a pineapple jalapeño mojito which she liked. The wings were very good and you got several. We got orders of the veggie rolls and California rolls and there were normal amounts and they were very good. A great deal for retired people or this eon vacation here. The only problem is that if you want to go to the men's restroom, it is out the back door and there is no rail to stop you from falling in the water if you are too drunk to stay away from the edge.

Not sure how this place got good reviews for dinner, but was horrible. My family of 15 agreed as well. Steak was cold and no flavor. Can’t remember the last time I added 81 to my steak, and with the steak I had to. Another family member got a steak and hers was over cooked and cold. Not worth $30! Sushi wasn’t great either. Server was out of it and rude, especially at the end of our meal. Also, he never checked up on us one time. Although, breakfast was good and server was great! No offense, but not sure how Guy Ferri can feature this on his show. Will not be back, at least for dinner.
