High quality Italian food, wonderful atmosphere, good service, perhaps the best lasagna outside of Rome. Normally, I would not order lasagna since it is typically a pretty plebeian dish. Not so. About 6 layers of very thin pasta, with only tomato sauce between them, except...for one Bolognese layer in the middle and bechamel with cheese on top. Not your mama's lasagna and a different experience for most. There is a covered outside patio, so this can be a romantic place for dinner.More

This was first & only dining experience at this restaurant. The Melanzane was totally saturated with oil. Either the oil wasn't hot enough when the eggplant was cooked or it sat in the oil for too long. The fish of the day was salmon. It...was prepared well but much too small a portion especially for $33 (about a three ounce piece.) It was a sixty dollar meal, but unsatisfied. As expensive as things are today, you would hope for a MUCH better meal for these prices. Very disappointing meal.More

A group of about 12 of us did dinner one evening in April. The food and service were great. They kept aside a nice private area for us. Would surely recommend.

The pasta we ordered were very delicious, prepared according to our wishes, and served promptly. The bread offered with olive oil and balsamic vinegar was to die for!! Service was courteous and responsive. Friendly and elegant ambience. Highly recommended.

Had been on road in hotel for nearly 2 weeks- found this gem for dinner. Ate early, before 6pm, outside on terrace. Attentive server. Wide menu and nice selection of adult beverages. Veal scallopini plus heirloom tomato burrata appetizer and soup de hour were wonderful....Will return again! Great atmosphere and lots of families and locals.More

Not exactly sure why everyone gives this restaurant such rave reviews . . . maybe it’s because there is such a dearth of good sit down restaurants in Marin. But maybe this is one of the very few restaurants that is able to accommodate larger...parties for festive occasions. So I can see why people give Toscana positive reviews for the venue. But the food is really just mediocre at best. The space itself of old and tired. Kind of like House of Prime Rib in San Francisco. But the food at House of Prime Rib is a thousand times better so you simply “overlook” the decor and focus on the food. Toscana not so much. Okay. On to the food: 1. Burrata - good 2. Beef Carpaccio - very good 3. Fritto Misto - drenched in grease 4. Zuppa - very average 5. Lasagna - meh 6. Carbonara - meh 7. Chicken Marsala - the one at Cheesecake Factory is MUCH MUCH better 8. Calamari Steak - very bland but tender (this is not easy to find in restaurants these days) 9. Tiramisu - much better at Whole Foods Would we go back. Probably not. I’d rather drive to the city to find a better Italian restaurant. Or even drive into Mill Valley. But this is just one person’s opinion.More

This is a great place for a family visit. We had parents, grandparents, and two kids under the age of three. It was crowded, hectic, and entertaining. There were families all over the place. We don't visit restaurants much with the kids, so this was...a good place to go. Both boys behaved well until dinner went past their bedtime, so we got out before they turned into pumpkins. The food was good, with plenty for leftovers. We started with bread (a lot of bread), bruschetta, and burrata. Plenty to share. A couple of us got the cannelloni: it was steaming hot, smelled great, and tasted good. A couple of others got the puttanesca and also enjoyed it. One of us wanted to eat "light," so he went with the shrimp louie. And the last order was a fish special that was enjoyed. The kid's tortellini is probably enough for an adult, though it is just in marinara sauce. We also got our older son his first Shirley Temple, and he helped out with the birthday creme brulee. He will probably want to visit again.More

We enjoyed our lunch here, driving north along Hwy 101, without getting into downtown San Rafael. No problem parking in the restaurant's lot, early enough. Service was friendly and good, from staff at all levels. We ordered a salad, Frito Misto (fried calamari, shrimps and...onion shreds), and the excellent seafood Risotto, with clams, mussels, calamari and shrimp. Very tasty with sweetness of clams and mussels. Wednesday offers wine bottle at half price.More

Got a yen for Cacio e Pepe. Or perhaps Papperdelle Cingahle. This long time Trattoria does very good versions of these classic Italian regional specialties. Add a very respectable wine list and you have a great local joint.
