Excellent in everything. Everybody knows their place and duties. Valet to hostess very welcoming. Matre De to table preparers to waiter excellent; first rate. Atmosphere outstanding. We sat out in their shielded patio area. Loverly table-clothed tables amongst tall and limbed fica-type trees. Wine selection...(bottle & glass) varied and extensive. Menu items are easily displayed on an easel. Timing, whether serving beverages or appetizers or entrees, was paced ‘with time to enjoy’ in mind. I leave the value of the meal to the last. You should be aware of the cost as you decide. Cocktails to food to deserts …. all are $$$$$ but worth the price.More

We had been here last month for a birthday dinner and returned this time for a Sunday brunch with out of town friends which is typically hard to mess up. Our issue with service seems to have continued, but this time I found the food...to be rather average. Everything seemed to have sat a while before being served and again was very under seasoned. What did bother me was the casual service for such an expensive restaurant. Everything took forever. We were told by the waiter he would be back to describe the menu. He disappeared for 15 minutes. He apologized when he returned telling us that he was "very busy." We were told he would be back with bread, but this did not happen for 10 minutes while he attended other tables. When the bread arrived it was plopped on the table with the butter dish stacked on top and just left that way. Service and plate removal was willy nilly and not from the correct sides. I was surprised when things were handed out across the table, such as placement of fish knives which were slid across the table into the middle of diners spot and not even placed correctly with other flatware. This is pretty casual and sloppy for a $70 brunch. Actually, the best service came from the bus boy who refilled the champagne glasses. He was attentive, formal and polite. In the end there was nothing terrible about the meal, it just did not live up to what we used to experience under the previous owner. And it certainly was not worth the cost. I had always seen Spencer's down the road as more casual country club fare, but now it looks more like a winner and will be our future destination for brunch. Both do have lovely patios.More

Lovely venue, attentive and effective staff, good food. We caught up with some friends who were visiting and, never having been before, we decided to try Le Vallauris. The hosts greeted us with some French bonne hommie and brought us to the delightful outdoor dining...room. So beautiful and comfortable, even in the cool nights of the late fall. Things continued in that same comfortable, though not outstanding, way for the rest of the evening. Our cocktails were good, though pricey at $20+. Our waiter was so-so but our busboy, a very dignified thin young man, was perfect. I wish I had caught his name, but he is terrific and never let my water glass go dry (I drink a lot of water). The food was good, though uneven. The soup special, a lobster bisque, was as expected and the escargot was buttery and garlicky. The bread was a real let down being so dry and brittle it was more crust than anything. The special of veal sweetbreads in caper sauce was delicious but the beef cheeks were bland and fatty. My husband would have sent them back but didn't want to spoil the mood for our guests. The souffles were light but not as flavorful as we would have liked. In all, we wouldn't mind going back but we'll try other places first.More

Surprised about some of the recent less than stellar reviews. We’ve been here for dinner many times but tonight was the first time under the new ownership. As soon as our food arrived I could tell the difference. Everything has been taken up a notch...or two. The ahi appetizer was possibly the best I’ve ever had. The ahi itself was perfection. The plating was picture-worthy and the balance of flavors was dead-on. The rack of lamb was also wonderful. Before it was good, but not superb. Now it is superb. Didn’t 100% love our waiter who seemed hot and bothered but the restaurant was packed so perhaps he was stressed out. It was great to see our old favorites like Bruce the wine steward who is still on top of his game. Chef obviously has outdone himself as well. In my opinion the new owner has achieved the delicate balance between elevating the experience while not alienating those who liked it the way it was.More

A birthday dinner in an expensive and sophisticated restaurant involves some high expectations. I've heard a lot about this restaurant being the best in Palm Springs. It was my first time there. As I arrived I could tell it is unique. The service is very...professional and good. The restaurant is beautiful and has a nice atmosphere. The menu is very good, different options from halibut, to duck, from lamb to lobster ravioli. Desserts are interesting too. But everything looks better on paper and presentation than it tastes. Just blend. I like when flavors are subtle and well matched, but you expect the preparation to enhance the main ingredient. My halibut was perfectly cooked, but it didn't have the taste I like in halibut. The octopus was the same thing, tender and grilled, but so blend. I don't know how it happens. I cook both often and never had that lack of taste. My partner said the same about the lamb. Positive things: the escargot was just as good as the best in Paris, the cherry tomatoes on top of the leg of octopus was exquisite, with a perfect touch of fennel that added a completely different layer to it. So you know it's a refined kitchen, but somehow it didn't do the best with the main ingredients. It was a great night, everybody was happy, but the food was way below my expectations.More

This was our first time back to one of our favorite restaurants in Palm Springs after its remodeling and reopening with a new owner. We were here for a special dinner and not our typical brunch. It has the same marvelous patio and attentive service...as before, probably the best in Palm Springs. They had our reservation for a special table and all. Staff frequently checked in on us. It is French menu with California influence. You know this is French when there is no salt or pepper on the table and they do not offer it. The menu is brought table side on a white board and described by the waiter. It is very extensive. We started with the escargot and vichyssoise. The latter was good but slightly bland. For entrees we had halibut and rack of lamb. The halibut was done perfectly. The lamb was tender and cooked to the right degree, however, it too had very little taste and the sauce offered nothing more. The timbale of vegetables was either eggplant or a ratatouille but was so plain and mushy, I could not tell. It was accompanied by a fried potato pancake with an off flavor to the mashed potato. I could not tell if it was cheese or herbs. It was OK but again everything seemed under seasoned and could have been much improved with salt and pepper. The dessert of a Grand Marnier souffle was to die for topped with creme anglaise. It is how I remembered it and perfect to share with two people. The service was formal and attentive. The one glitch was that it took almost 45 minutes to get our entrees after our appetizers. Those around us who ordered the same dish had their's well before us. I think there was a mistake in the kitchen and the order had never been placed. The waiter and manager came over repeatedly and apologized. We had been given a bottle of champagne so did not have cocktails as usual. I still adore this restaurant and chalk up my subpar entree to a one off and bad order choice by me. It does not deter me from returning to try something new. This is definitely a special occasion restaurant.More

When I called to ask if they could accommodate a single diner without a reservation they were very friendly and welcoming on the phone. So I was really looking forward to this experience based on that first interaction and photographs of the restaurant. The pictures...did this place justice. It is a beautiful dining room under the boughs of trees in the beautiful Palm Springs weather. I decided to do the tasting menu and wine pairings, then settled in for a nice evening with good food and a good book. From a service perspective, there was nothing bad about it. If anything I mostly felt a bit ignored. Which sometimes happens when you’re a single diner. However, in this case I was seated very closely to the reason why my server wasn’t paying me much attention. Table behind me was filled with restaurant industry people and real estate people Both of which he was very interested in chatting about, it was pretty much near the end of my tasting menu before he even asked how My meal was. By that point I wasn’t particularly inclined to interact with him. He was polite and I’m sure a professional, but not attentive. The saving grace would have been the meal. Again there was nothing wrong with it. But there was nothing incredibly right with it either. Nothing was particularly inventive or tasty. It was just fine.More

I have looked forward to getting a chance to visit this establishment for years!! The food was pretty good. Not great. The servers were good but we waited for long periods to get a drink or the bill. But. The table near us was playing...the football game on their phone. Full blast. I approached the manager to ask if they could ask them to turn the volume off….given it’s a nice restaurant not a sports bar. The manager said “well, people like to watch their phone….” Really? So watching a football game in a nice restaurant is just ok now? He asked if I’d like to move tables. No. Should they move tables? Yes. I was a little flabbergasted. But they did stop watching whatever on the phones. But now I feel super uncomfortable that I had to mention this and got push back from the manager. It seems like a no brainer for a nice establishment.More

Another fine dining experience at this lovely restaurant which is an old favorite. Service and food were all sublime. The wine list is classic and very comprehensive. I know because I used to be a sommelier. I noticed that a guest had brought their own...bottle!! To anyone who takes their wine to a restaurant: PLEASE DON'T! Restaurants want to serve thier food and thier wine. Not just half! Whatever your reasons may be, I. e. " it's a special bottle" or "it's special occasion" or " I am a wine collector"; it's all nonsense. You just don't want to buy wine with their markup failing to realize the wine markups goes to cover dozens of other overhead resturant costs. So don't be cheap and disgusting. Just give them the respect of choosing wines from their list.More

We ate their two sundays in a row. Excellent service, and food. We missed this was closed for remodeling for a long while. We had reservations about three weeks in advance for the patio . Shrimp are tremendous, and we recommend them. Crispy and done...to perfection. Everything is great, however. The hangar steak was our choice our party of six, no one was disappointed. The oysters are also very good. Excellent service. Champagne glass always filled with a smile. We can’t say enough good things about this fine establishment.More
