We came for the cake, but the food is really good too. The kids meals have the option of real (not canned) fruit which is not always easy to find. The tuna melt was excellent. The cakes were phenomenal. But, if you come later in the day, there will be less cake selection. I wanted the lemon cake and by the time we finished and ordered it, someone had bought the last two pieces. So, if you have your eye on something, order right away.

We did this restaurant just before we went to see the whales. Impeccable service, the salads were super good, they have a wide choice of dishes and a kids menu. We had a great time there, the only thing is you are served very quickly so difficult to enjoy but convenient if you are in a hurry or do not want to spend a lot of time at the restaurant

Visited on a Saturday afternoon with no reservation and seated right away inside for 2. Ordered Bloody Mary, Rum Chata Hot Chocolate, onion rings, fettuccine alfredo with garlic bread, and the open face turkey sandwich. Everything was delicious (except for the Bloody Mary and Onion Rings - not that great). Service was friendly and prompt. We were too full by the end of our meal to try any cake, but they looked absolutely delicious and very affordable prices!

Probably a must in Monterey. This is one of the most famous restaurants in the city. Good food, large portions, good value for money and friendly staff. Also known for the cheesecakes, but our stomachs were already full after the main course. (When we left the restaurant we noticed flies in the display case of the pastries. This prevented us from buying a “takeaway cheesecake.”)

The food was okay but the atmosphere was poor. The restaurant was fairly quiet and as we were having our meal all the staff were packing the restaurant up so we were surrounded by the outside tables and chairs and staff sat around making up sets of knives and forks for the next day. It was obvious they all just wanted us to finish our meal so they could finish up and go home even though it wasnt late.

As touted on its Website, Rosine's is family-friendly. Among our fellow diners were many families with young children, and the staff appeared to accommodate them well. The interior of the restaurant actually looks more upscale that the style of service or the food on offer. With high ceilings, it was very resonant (i.e. noisy). My dining companion and I started with house salads with bleu cheese dressing, which were fine, if generic. For my entree, I chose lamb shanks. Although they were cooked so that the meat nearly fell off the bone (in the style of ossobuco), the disappointment for me was the glaze. It did not taste as if any white wine or tomatoes had been used. That foregrounded the canned beef broth flavor. Also, the lamb shanks came with no garnish. In other words, the presentation was decidedly "family restaurant" style of the most unimaginative sort. My dining companion ordered the seafood pasta, with alfredo sauce and was happy with it. The salmon and prawns did seem to be well blended with the pasta and well proportioned. The presentation of the seafood pasta was fine. When we asked to see a dessert menu, we were told that there was a "verbal" menu available up front. In other words, we (my dining companion is disabled) were expected to get up out of our seats, weave through the fairly dense crowd milling inside the entrance, and try to hear an explanation of items displayed under a glass case. We immediately asked for the check instead. The servers were not particularly attentive to our table throughout the evening.

First off we called the day before to make a reservation for 10 people and they accommodated our group. Very busy on a Saturday night with that said the service was very good. I ordered angel hair pasta with shrimp and the flavor was bursting. Other items ordered French Dip was told it was the best he had no fat. Chicken Piccata was ordered by three people and they all said it was delicious and a nice flavor. Can I just say leave room for dessert. The strawberry cake was delicious and chocolate cake was very good just a little rich. The staff was very attentive and did a great job! Draw back as no fault to the restaurant was it was very noisy so conversation was difficult.

We came into Rosine's because it had pretty good reviews and boy were we disappointed. We weren't totally ready to order the first time the waiter came by, so we had to flag down the manager who helped us and changed our waiter. My husband wanted the lasagna, but they said it was a pre-made lasagna, and they couldn't pop it in the oven to burn the cheese on top. I wanted gnocchi, but they didn't have it, so we settled for a sandwich and salad. We ordered a sandwich that wasn't noteworthy. I can't even remember what kind it was. The $15 salad, called the SW Chicken Salad, was made out of ice burg lettuce and very little amounts of garnishes. It was very small and not very good. The second waiter did fine closing out our bill, but I was still hungry and unsatisfied when we left.

Dear Loves-A-Deal-2-Eat, we're very sorry to read your comments and we apologize for your service. We do make our Lasagna fresh every morning, it is not kept in an oven all day otherwise it would be dry and overcooked. We could have broiled the top for you to 'burn' the cheese and we'll let our staff know that but we never receive that request. Our SW Chicken salad is made with romaine, not iceberg lettuce, the only salad we serve with iceberg is our Wedge salad as that is what it is. We felt the need to clarify the above with you and will check in with our kitchen team about the garnishes.

We sent for a family dinner and had looked forward to a full rack of spare ribs and a steak. The food came quick but the spare ribs were simply uneatable. We made several cuts with the sharp knife provided but it was not possible to cut the meat - NOT tender at all. We had to return the meal and get salmon instead. We also had a steak but also this was of poor quality - not tender and with sinews. Disappointing meal The waiter was however quick to get us a salmon instead of the spare ribs. Waiters were generally very good and helpful

We noticed that this restaurant was famous for its great desserts but unfortunately we were so full at the end of the meal we could not partake of them! We arrived just after 7:15 and we were given a table right away. Our waitress was Kelsey D and she did a great job of looking after us, My wife had the cream of mushroom soup and the Calamari steak. Neither of us ever heard of such a thing so she decided to try it. It was very tender, large and delicious! I had the Rosine’s steak, cooked perfectly to rare with a caesar salad and mushrooms, again top notch. A glass of wine each and we were absolutely unable to eat another thing! Great dinner and dining experience. Next time we will get the dessert (maybe LOL).

My husband and I have ate here several times since 2012 with the last being 2018 until today November 2024. I have loved this place from the get go but things change. The place seemed a little dirty, the little flies were bad and the food not as good as I remembered. My husband’s minestrone soup was delicious he said and his steak salad was great with the steak cooked to perfection. I had the lasagna which was fine. The clam chowder was very different but okay and the dinner salad consisted of lettuce, carrots and croutons and bland ranch dressing. We went to look at the desserts in the case and I was completely grossed out when one of the two cases had a bunch of little flies crawling all over the brownies. Not one or two flies but at least 20. At that point I declined any dessert and decided to not go back for breakfast which was disappointing since the breakfast menu looked really good.

Simply the best restaurant in Montery. Have been coming here for years during our vacations from the L. A. area. Whether its breakfast, lunch, or dinner it is always top notch cuisine. The Lasagna is the best we have ever eaten. The ministrone soup is to die for. The portions are very generous and if you have room you must have dessert. The cakes and pies are HUGE and delicious. Just do not waste your time looking for places to eat when you come to Monterey. Just go to Rosines every day and you are all set.

My husband and I planned a trip to Monterey and checked out restaurant reviews and chose Rosina’s based on the reviews. The menu was very limited. I chose a French dip and my husband ordered the pork chops. My French dip came on a large bun. The meat was not sliced thin enough and was tough. My husbands dinner wasn’t any better. His mashed potatoes were cold. The gravy served on the potatoes was congealed. Service was very good and the restaurant itself was nicely decorated and comfortable. My advice is this restaurant needs a new chef and better food choices.

It was all surprisingly good. I had the French dip, which came with real beef au jus. My wife had salmon. Quality of everything was excellent, portions were big. Service was friendly and capable. Decor was pleasant though informal (don't know if they formalize it for dinner). Prices moderate for value received. If you like dessert they have a display case with a large selection of layer cakes from which they cut huge slices. We were too full for dessert.

Located just up from our hotel this is a very nice place with indoor and outdoor seating (with heaters). While they took a pandemic hit they remain busy and providing very good food with very generous portions. The lasagna could have easily fed 2 persons. Our server said the company worked hard to keep people working during the bad times and there seems to be a family type of atmosphere. The dessert items here are AMAZING and portions are large---which is probably why they sell out often! While the interior is open and historic brick it is not loud so a conversation is possible and the meal can be easily enjoyed with some intimacy.
